Another really informative video. This is really quality content. It's great that you give explanations about the differences between the two boards and it was great learning about the Wi-Fi cards and the differences and challenges that come with swapping them. It's fascinating to see how compact everything is in a laptop compared to a desktop and how much more effort has to go into changing out parts. I also really appreciate you putting in your troubleshooting. It's refreshing seeing someone upload their failures and issues and how they overcame them rather than just seeing the end result.
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting! Amoh2513 has answered the first question. You will have to do some research, but I am pretty sure the ribbon cable is different width, so you need to get a touch screen mobo. PLEASE RESEARCH AND DO NOT TAKE MY WORD.
You will need to install the g2 card reader if you want to use the trackpad and its associated buttons because the trackpad plugs into the card reader. Thanks for watching and have a great holiday season!
Hello I have Hp 840 G2 it has amd 1 gb card, recently I gave it for repair, now laptop doesn't detect amd card, I fear repair man has taken it out, is it possible that amd card can be taken out of laptop, I read somewhere that cards are integrated on laptop can't be taken out. Also can you show me how amd 1 gb card looks like if you have one for laptop
Hi there, thanks for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it. With the HP 840 G2, the AMD card cannot be removed. The only way to do this, is to swap the motherboard. The repair person most likely uninstalled the GPU drivers and forgot to reinstall them. Also, in my video at 2:20 and 2:21, you can see the AMD graphics chip when I lift the heatsink. It is the bigger chip on the right that is square and green.
I swapped the display with the g1 motherboard and then I did the g1 -> g2 motherboard swap. I hope that clears things up, thanks for commenting and watching. Have a great day!
Hey man, i found out the g1 also has a variant which is the same g1 but with a i7 4600u (instead of i5 4300u) and a dedicated amd radeon hd 8750m (1gb), wifi card in that one is the same, do you think it will work? i have already legacy drivers for the amd gpu and its also the same laptop version just a different variant (hp elitebook 840 g1) there are revisions: C: i3 B:i5 A: i7 with gpu. let me know thanks!
That mobo should work as long as its not coming out of a 17in laptop. I initially was looking for that mobo but it was harder to find and more expensive than the g2 I purchased. Thanks for watching, stay safe and good luck with the swap
Hello, wonderful content 🔥. Can you clarify something to me. Is it all elitebook 840 G2 that come with the dedicated GPU?Does the i5-5200u have that AMD graphics?
Thank you so so much for the kind words! From what I remember the G2s came with and without dedicated GPUs. HP actually has some great product info on their website. Thats what I used to understand what chipsets came on what generation laptop. Good luck!
In order to upgrade the GPU on your G1, you need to swap the motherboard that has a GPU on it, like I did in this video. You can use either a G1 or G2 mother board in the G1 chassis.
Sadly I do not have a direct link to purchase this Motherboard. I bought it from a private seller on ebay and they only had this one in stock. You will have to go through the ebay listings to find one for yourself. Good luck and thanks for watching!
@@shamsrind9552 I do not know. My advise is to look at the disassembly instructions from ifixit's website and compare pictures between the zbook and g1. Good luck!
On second thought, I think it MIGHT work, you need to be very careful and pay close attention to the mobo size and connections. But the HP zbook 14in g2 mobo looks very close but I cannot say unless I swap and test it out. Good luck!

Do you think that the HP Dragonfly G1 can be updated to G2, in photos they are similar, could you help me?
The m.2 SSD from G1 will fit into the G2 motherboard?
I have the g1 with touch screen. Can I swap the mother board
The same SSD won't fit. As he said, G1 takes the 2242 size M.2 SATA SSD, while G2 takes the 2260 one.
Dunno the answer to your 2nd question tho

@danyaloy I really appreciate those words. It really makes me smile knowing my videos help people

This was an interesting video swapping the motherboard but what about also installing a faster CPU like an Intel i7-5600U?
As far as I know, if the mobo has that CPU, you will be able to install it since they use the same heatsink.
you used g3 display so do you think the g3 motherboard is compatible?
