    Thanks for the video!
    Just installed i7-3740QM in a HP EliteBook 8470p.
    Super easy upgrade, I didn't even have to change BIOS settings or anything.
    Linux Mint simply picked up where I left off, and the laptop booted up so fast I first though the laptop was in sleep mode (not possible, since I unplugged the battery).
    The laptop already felt very snappy since I have replaced old mechanical drive with SSD and then upgraded RAM to 8GB. But now with CPU power doubled (according to benchmarks), this old machine received a new lease of life.

    • @Cobuman
      @Cobuman  5 лет назад

      The main concern is BIOS support; however, I've had someone reply that it worked for them (using non-standard CPU) on this specific video in comments. It may work but I can only recommend what was originally sold as an option. If you go for it reuse the heatsink as there is no upgrade available. TDP refers to more power/heat compared to 35w as you know, so I would test the temps afterwards to be in safe range.

    I have an 8460p that I've had for years. The only upgrade I made over the years is swap in a 1TB hard drive. Can I still upgrade it to say a 6th gen or higher i5-i7 along with an SSD? Also I'll upgrade the ram to 16GB. What do you think?

      Great question. The chipset used for that laptop is QM67 and according to data sheet it supports some 3rd gen CPUs.
