I just my 8470p yesterday and that was a great choice rather than buying newer budget laptops, this one is solid and very much for office works and other programming
i love this laptop. in case anyone else gets same issue - for years I had an issue with it where the mouse would randomly jump around the screen and i'd get this random beeping. finally worked out that it was something wrong with the pointer thing in the middle of the keyboard- easy to disconnect, and now its all good. the fact that you can replace the keyboard yourself so easily and cheaply is a big advantage... replacing the battery is not so good though, i've found it hard to find decent replacements
This laptop is a tank, In the past I had bad experience with HP pavilion laptop and was skeptical but decided to give it another chance to HP and I am very satisfied with this Elitebook, bought used two+ years ago and works better than some new current gen laptops, it is really solid and it flies with SSD, amazing keyboard.
The fingerprint scanner actually will work on Windows 10. There is 2 different drivers. One is the fingerprint reader driver which was intended for Windows 7. The other one is a security driver (I don't remember the specific name) That adds an application to your laptop that will allow you to setup your fingerprint reader. This WILL work on Windows 10, or at least will work if you upgrade from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10.
I love it. Built like a tank, the metal surface, easy to service, the screws on the hinges. I don't play games, so for me it's almost perfect. I just suggest to use external speakers as the audio is really disappointing. Limited frequency range, mine is mono!
You should have two speakers. They are both placed at the left side but there are two. Can You regulate hinges manipulating these screws? Mine seems to be stiff, I'd like to loose them a bit.
I''ve had a few of those in different sizes, but same model generally. A quad core i7 ivy bridge with SSD indeed gets this machine flying! What a bargain, and they never, ever die:)
Here were I live most come with i5. Upgrading to i7 would cost the same as the entire laptop did. I am not convinced the speed jump will be noticeable.
How big was the battery dump when going to the 45W TDP processor from the 35W one? You also mention upgrading to a bigger battery. I bought one with more cells from China. Not worth, capacity is the same as the the original HP with less cells.
I am still using this laptop. I have upgraded the hard to ssd. and ram to 8gb ddr3. now i am also planning to increase the ram with 16 gb. Yes i agree. That's a good laptop for development purpose also. the bad thing about this laptop is: it is heavy as compared to other laptops. its weight is higher.
It's really heavy. It's not portable friendly. Other than that, it works very well. It can even use 5G wifi. League of Legends plays perfectly on medium graphic settings.
The fingerprint reader does work on win10 - - and for those who have the problem with their laptops getting too hot, it's usually the amd card that causes it.
I have this laptop for about a month and it's better than modern, budget laptops. Modern laptops with this built quality, costs ten times more. And I can upgrade it easily so it can run and run. One thing bothers me, is there easy way to loosen hinges? They seems a little too stiff.
I bought an upgraded version on ebay with an I7, 16gb of ram, Radeon 7500m, and a 232gb ssd. it’s really good for light gaming since it has a cpu. you can get over 100fps on minecraft, 50 fps on word of warcraft, and about 60 on valorant. so It can definitely be gamed on. but don’t expect to play any of the crazy modern games. I’m actually surprised it came with a gpu which makes me think, can it really not change the gpu? I gonna look into this because If I’m able to change the gpu, it’ll be a complete beast of a laptop
It actually plays modern titles. Mine is core i5, merged with an 8 gb ram. I have so far played the likes of Dishonored 2, Farcry 5, Farcry New Dawn, GTA 5, Hitman 2016, madmax, Titanfall 2 & some other AAA, titles I can't remember now. Just get a cooling pad & you are good to go.

im really planning to get this one at almost same specs with the 7570M, 100€ and comes with a 6 month warranty. I just could not find (Balkans) a ThinkPad in the price point that was this good or had a decent condition. Great video showcasing this monster laptop, it can handle even the strongest i7-3940xm so you can turn it into a desktop replacement for heavy CPU-bound workloads. Also the nipple was inherited from IBM aka TrackPoint.
Lack of official "Hello" doesn't stop the fingerprint reader working. Install Win7, register your prints in the HP software, then run the update to Win10. The HP support is retained, and actually works.
I have an 8560p, two years ago I upgraded the motherboard for the 8570p one (they're compatible, almost all the part are compatible, except for the CPU and the motherboard extension por some usb and audio port). With 8gb it is working great. The new cpu is a I7-3630QM (last was a I7-2640m). With 2x8gb it would be absolutely perfect.
Great Video! I use mine daily, it rarely leaves the house though. Battery still lasts about 2hrs. i7 & 7570M with 12gb ram, I have another 8gb stick in another laptop to make it 16gb but 12gb seems good enough. Picked up a cheap 250gb PNY SSD on black Friday for $25. It runs everything fairly well. The best part is I got it for nearly free on craigslist 2yrs ago. I traded a PC I found at the dumpster and a apple router that someone gave me for it. The HP had college faculty stickers on it when I got it, so I think spent most of it's life in an office environment. Other than a few dings, it seems well taken care of. The bad... The left 2 USB ports are very finicky, I rarely use them. The SD card slot sometimes takes a few times of inserting to get it to click in. I assume, in it's early life the user used these ports a lot. I can't complain though, runs win10 well and aside from heavy gaming it does everything I need. I just wish it had a backlit keyboard.
