  • Interior construction of Carolina Carport metal garage is complete and a timelapse shows wood framing, electrical wiring, TOSOT minisplit, insulation, drywall, ceiling fan, door and trim installation. The interior is now like a regular home living room which will allow us to use the building for get togethers as well as typical shop projects. A short review at the end explains problems with the metal garage doors.

    Hey Brett, loved your series, thanks for sharing it. Although my back started hurting just watching:) I had my 3 car garage floor epoxied. They diamond grind it, then apply epoxy, decorative vinyl chips (you choose the colors and density of spread) and finish with a polyurethane. Took 4 days total, it was $3k for a little over 600sf. My garage is 100% wood/metal/cnc shop, no room for cars. The chips aid in anti-slip (a non-issue, it's never wet) but make rolling tools around harder, esp with smaller cheap casters. My grey/white combo also totally camouflages any small screw or nut you drop. But it transforms the space, makes it a nicer place to be, absolutely no regrets.

    I think I'd prefer a 2 leaf barn slider style over the segmented roll-up & I doubt a slider would air-seal any worse. Also barn slider doors can be insulated to some extent, the rollup doors look like they will radiate lots of heat and cold. A slider door setup could also include a small window.
    Installing a slider door does require that the roller track cover flange be installed under the end wall tin. Obviously this could be a challenge to retro-fit.
    I'm no longer fan of overhead garage doors primarily due to recent price stupidity, and ceiling clearance loss.
    The man door appears to be an old-school mobile home type. They're ok but work best under an awning (someone else already said that). This is kind-of true with any out-swinging door that's exposed to wind driven rain.

    I’ve completed two of my garage floors with UCoat it of the years with great ease and success. Maybe look into that?

    I would try putting an awning over that door. I have a wood shed that kept leaking like that and rotted a big section of the floor out. I put a gutter on the roof, an awning over the door, then filled every crack and space I could find with spray foam. You gotta prevent water from even getting to the door in the first place

      I agree. That's probably the direction I need to go.

    Very nicely done! I have a 24x35 metal building that I am currently insulating. Curious as to how you insulated around the roll up door, especially the large gap that they come with at the top. Did you use brush seals or something else? I know with mine, that is where a ton of cold air comes in.

      I actually haven't figured out what I want to do yet.

      @@brettleybuilt keep us posted if you figure out the trick to that. Seems like you either have brush seals or get a new regular garage door without the gap.

    What was the intent of putting OSB between the joist with glue? What does that do? More rigidity? Or did you just need a thicker dimension?

    • @brettleybuilt
      @brettleybuilt  2 месяца назад +1

      To make it more rigid. Probably wasn't necessary, but didn't want any problems.

    Why not servicing 2002 which is DC 5 miles from MD, and you are serving MD.

      Not sure. Some of these metal building places seem a little goofy.
