Did anyone else find that they felt so bad for Miguel when Kevin told him no about wearing the Pilgrim Rick hat now that you're watching it the second time around whereas the first time you totally didn't care about Miguel's feelings? Super weird how that shifted, haha. Having the Miguel episode in my context makes my view of Miguel night and day from my view from the first time i ever watched this show
The first time i watched it I was like ”how dare you asking about the hat when you werent even in the moment when the pilgrim guy was created” but second time i watched it i felt soooo bad for miguel.
Of all the great monologs in This Is US, my all-time fave is William talking about catching those fleeting moments of life. I have lost so many people in my life; I fully understand how quickly it all goes. I actively remind myself of this speech. It was an absolute A-ha moment.
Did anyone else catch that moment, like a foreshadowing of Rebecca's early-onset Dementia, when she asked Kevin the name of his play, and he said, "Mom, I’ve told you like 8 times". 🤔
Yes, totally! The writers of this show connect everything in such an amazing way! And you don't realize so many connections the first time you see it, but the second time it all makes even more sense! Amazing writing!!! 👏👏
@@kamiyanicoleyes! I just remember Jack saying to Miguel to always look after Rebecca and the kids if something were to happen to him 😭😭. And he did ❤️❤️❤️. It was the episode were Jack almost gets fired and Miguel says he will leave if Jack goes! I believe that Jack would be happy that Rebecca and Miguel got together and he provided a happy life for her! I have already watched all the episodes 5 times and I want to watch it again! Truly a special show and nothing out there like it ❤️❤️❤️
This show is such a time capsule. In so many ways. It’s a time capsule of when I was stuck in an unhealthy marriage, it’s a time capsule of the sparks of hope it gave me. It’s a time capsule full of reminders of how nuanced and beautiful life is and can be if you can manage to change your perspective just by a few degrees. Finding you guys doing this podcast has been sooo delightful for me! I finally got my (new and healthy) husband to watch This Is Us a couple months ago and it was so beautiful rewatching as someone a little bit older and wiser :’) ❤
Sterling you are absolutely right I'm rewatching the series with my husband (first time for him) and I find myself crying all over again for the same moments that hit me the first time. ❤❤❤ Is a wonderful show is the best show ever
I absolutely love this podcast, This really was us... The geek in me is doing the math's, there is 96 episodes left to review, that's 96 weeks roughly 1 year and 10 months. Sounds long but I'm here for it.
I am in awe of Mandy More for being able to portray Rebecca for her lifespan that we saw. Through young and old. She should have had multiple Emmys. The emotions she was able to convey were amazing!
As a viewer, it can be easy for me to intertwine the character and the actual actor as one. I appreciate the way you all talk about the characters as separate from yourself and even acknowledge ways you may disagree with the characters' choices. A helpful reminder that you all aren't necessarily who you play.
Love this show! It makes my Tuesday! I watch the epi you're going to discuss right before i eatch this podcast...its great to relive such a great show!
Abut the Kate adn Toby break up scene, what really struck me was when she said that eventhough she was with Toby and what a wonderful partner he was, she was still not happy. Like it really wasn't about him, or about loneliness anymore. It was about her own stuff and she needed healing before commiting to happiness
I've always wanted to see more of Miguel in this series. I hated the way Kevin treated him in the beginning. But early on, I realized the pain Kevin was in, so I gave him a little more grace than Randall and Kate. I was glad Kevin made it good in the end of this episode with Miguel. Ron Cephus Jones just makes me smile every time he opens his mouth to speak.
When I rewatched this episode I cried as though I hasn’t seen it before. That’s when you know it good. It can still tap in to the tears. TBH I cried through every episode.
I think it's great that you brought Miguel in for a conversation. I remember the first time that I watched the show, I had a felling about how the narrative puts him and I loved to know more about him. Than, a lot of crazy things happened with the world, specially the immigrants. And my perception really changes about the narrative of Miguel. As Jack, he's a hero, but unfortunately, he's always in the shadows, just saying "thank you", "I'm sorry", "pretty please". Don't take me wrong, but I would love Miguel being more as Beth, with a lot of angules, 'cause he's such an amazing guy!
8:11 Hey Sully! A great word of advice from a wonderful woman full of wisdom "Until the day is over, there's always a chance you'll remember it for something else." -Rebecca Pearson 💕💕💕 🐞🐞🐞
I was born in '97 and grew up in the 2000s, and my mum raised me on the Police Academy movies so that really made me laugh that it became a Pearsons' tradition. But also, why was my mum letting me watch those movies as a child?!
I've binged this entire podcast in like two days. I love it so much. I cry every episode of the podcast just like I cried nearly every episode of the show. I hope you guys get as many of the cast members as possible on to be a guest! Even the "kids," if they feel up to it.
I’m listening this in the bed with my child and trying not to crack up laughing 😂😂😭😭 you guys are hilarious Okay now I’m crying as you speak about William dying ❤
I saw this episode with my parents and made us think on how we should create traditions for (maybe) future generations and how important is to have this in the family
Mine was included in this episode ❤I just responded to a question they posted on Instagram and they wrote back asking if they could use it on the podcast. I was so honoured.
Haven't missed an episode of This Is Us or That Was Us. Love them all! I try to comment on each podcast episode to show you all my love for what you are doing and for the characters. Just heard Chris talk about how the majority of his acting career, before Toby, he was playing horrible people. It shocked me to my core. Seeing him first as Toby, I fell in love with that character. Can't imagine him hurting anyone. I am an indie author and am preparing to write my 4th book. The male protagonist, if it ever gets to the screen, should be played by Chris because of how he nailed being Toby. The female protagonist should be played by Melissa McCarthy. I think their comedic genius, and how well they play off other characters makes any audience love them more. I am shaking my head trying to get the image of Chris playing a killer out of my mind.😮 When we saw future Toby w/o his wedding ring answering the phone , I think I cried a little. Screamed a lot at the tv. It was too much to know that Katoby had an end date.
Funny and insightful fan segment at the end. I was initiated pretty early into the bodily fluid annointed club pretty early. 😄 I remember when my son was a baby, and as I was changing his diaper, he projectile pooped all over my hand! 😂 I can laugh about it now, but at the time.... ick! 7 years later, I now only have to deal with pee and boogers! And food!, Good times!😁
It really bugged me that we barely got anything about his relationship with his kids or his ex-wife. The episode that focused on his life mostly skipped over that part.
The best and worst thing about this episode is seeing Randall so funny and goofy at the beginning of the episode...only to see where he ends up at the end...

Totally agree you see him differently
I felt so bad for Miguel on this episode and of course I had even more empathy while watching the future episodes
@@mersac9049 - Now that I’ve seen 6x15… my sympathy is with Miguel all the way, especially with Kevin’s hostility towards him 🥹
That moment with William made me tear up the first time, but watching it again, WHEW! I cried for Ron. Rest well, beautiful man and actor.

Yes! Came to the comments to see if anyone else noticed

Season 6 Miguel episode was one of my very favorites. I always really liked his character. That episode is so moving.
I love the way William looked at Olivia when she said what does it feel like to be dying.
I can’t wait for next week when they talk about Randall trippin’ and seeing Jack at the cabin. So great.
