This is one of my favorite episodes of this podcast. We were provided so much insight of how and why decisions were made in regard to the music. It was powerful to hear that the music was the subtext to the scene. Now I understand why those moments hit so deeply. We all feel that in our life. Thanks for sharing your incredible gift with us.
This episode was incredible. The music is a character on This is Us and meeting the genius behind the music was indeed the chef’s kiss. Please bring him again.
I am floored by this episode and by Mr. Khosla here! First of all - the way he played Jacks theme is just 🥹😭😭 and then just to hear his process with everything is just WOW .. what a talent - thank you for this episode!!!
I was honestly going to skip this episode because I didn't think I would care about it, but decided to put it on in the background while I did work. I was ENTHRALLED. Absolutely fascinating, thank you for all of the background information!
This was a great episode. Literal tears. How Sid was able to connect his childhood experiences with his mother to Dan's experiences as well as the Pearsons... wow. The scene where he played the tune from the funeral and discussed Kate & her meltdown with the sticks with the entire process. What an amazing opportunity you have given us to see how all of it unfolded. Sid - you are AWESOME.
This was the episode I didn't know I was waiting for! The Score has been one of my favorite characters from the show since my initial watch. Thank you, Sidd, for taking your risks and coming from such a personal place so that we, too, can feel it from such a personal place. Like Mandy, my tears started flowing immediately when he played and sang for the first time on this episode (and I can't blame pregnancy hormones!). Of course, the scene being covered was an emotional scene, but it was Sidd who brought it home. My heart is full after this episode.
Literal chills all over my body and tears down my face when Sid started singing and playing that Indian piece. Absolutely wild how music moves a body so deeply.
Wow! This is definitely my favorite podcast episode so far. What an amazing story and peek into what composers do. I loved hearing about his influences and just seeing how much heart really went into this show. It’s incredible. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I have so much respect, love and admiration for Siddhartha Khosla. I discovered Siddhartha's music when 'This Is Us' released in 2016 and I just fell in love with his music, artistry and creativity as a music composer. His music has soul which is layered with deep emotion. I love that he had the room to explore his Indian musical heritage through the 'This Is Us' soundtrack. There are so many masterful pieces of music from 'This Is Us' and I have a dedicated playlist where I listen to these profound pieces of music over and over again. Siddhartha's music fills my heart with emotional joy. I always find myself becoming teary-eyed whenever I hear his pieces of music especially from 'This Is Us'. And now watching this interview and his creative process moved me to tears. He truly understood the soul of 'This Is Us' and his music became the soul of the show. 💗🎼🎸📼📽🎞😢
In the Christian church we use “oh’s” in music as what’s known as “war cry’s”. A cry out to God to give us courage and strength in the time of battle. When I heard those oh’s in 42:28 I got emotional. It made me think of all the battles the Pearsons faced throughout the show and ultimately got through. The music in this show really says so much it’s truly mind blowing.
Sid, I watched Goldspot perform in Delhi years ago and I'm delighted to learn that you're behind this music that has moved me so many times. I remember listening to the music from the funeral sequence and noticing the Indian influence. Listening to you explain how it came together had me grinning ear to ear!
As much as this interview showcases how incredible he is as an artist can i also say that this also once again what a GENIUS Fogleman is! Absolute magic in his mind
The score is as much a character of the show as everyone else. It is absolutely stunningly beautiful and transcendent. It bridges the back and forth between time periods so incredibly.
I loved this episode, it was so fascinating. I love learning how the show came together and about the amazingly talented people that brought it to life. This is why This Is Us touches our hearts 🥰
Sid!!!🎉🎉🎉 this episode!!! He uses the combination of music and story to tell us the story of the score for the show. Goosebumps!!! And lemon face and all the great feels!!!🎉🎉🎉 thank you team for bringing this episode to us
Learning the origin of that song is mind blowing. As soon as I heard it I grabbed my chest and cried. Yes I'll be following Siddhartha in ever platform😂❤
I always get so excited when I recognise familiar names from new shows/movies I watch and just know that it’s gonna be great. Sid and Dan are one of those.
I was waiting for the moment you would all sit down with Sid to hear on the musical side of the show and it did not disappoint! It was like unraveling another layer of the magic that made up this wonderful show. So many interesting details in the relationship between Dan and Sid, Sid's own personal and professional journey, and how Sid went about the actual show. I love how you all share the credit of the magic and emotion created through This is Us and at the same time, you all keep each other real about not selling yourselves short on your contributions to the show. The real magic of this show is that we got all these wonderful elements put together; between the acting, the music, the writing, the editing, and all these amazing people taking part in breathing life to This is Us. From Us to you...thank you all for what you did here with This is Us and thank you for what you continue to do now through That was Us.
Thinking back on the music in general, I would definitely be interested in hearing about Nicky's Theme (Nicky's Trailer - Songbird Road: Part One). That one was particularly memorable. Also loved his characted and development throughout the series.
to this day i cannot listen to we can always come back to this and memorized without crying, they're such powerful songs! i think memorized sums the message of this is us so perfectly. "how can a stranger ever end up being you" lives in my mind forever.
Multiple goosebumps over and over throughout this episode thank you so much for this episode! Resonated with me SO much as and Indian gal who super emotes to music and the arts
OMG!! When Sid starts explaining (and recreating) the process of coming up with the sound/the core music of the show and how his indian background is such a big part of it...I was bawling like a lunatic 😅 just like the first time I heard it in episode 13. That's when I got hooked to the show. The characters. The story. The music. This combo is emotionally overwhelming in the best way possible ❤❤❤ thank you all for this wonderful episode ! Thank you Sid for this masterpiece you created for This is Us ❤❤❤
When the guitar came out, I knew this podcast episode would destroy me even more 😭. What an absolute blessing it was to get insight into Sid's creative process. I viscerally remember the first time I heard this particular piece of music in S1E13 and how it forever changed the depth of the series for me (and it was already waaaaay deeper than anything I remember watching on network TV). The score holds this tension between grief and peace so profoundly. Thank you for illuminating all of this for us viewers and listeners ❤️
This guy's brilliance with the music he created for the show was phenomenal. I also have to mention whosever Idea it was to put in "To build a house" is amazing. I cry so hard every time I hear that song now. It was so impactful and I'd really love to know whose idea it was to put that specific song in there during the fire.
Oh my. Music has always moved me and plays an important part in any show that I watch. Listening to Sid and how he came to create the backgrounds that brought the words and acting to life was inspiring and very touching. I was moved to tears more than once during this episode. He is such an understated talent. Thank you for bringing him onto the podcast so we can all appreciate and admire what he brings to any show of which he plays a part.
Amazing- I also love the song Sid and his band did on an episode of How I met your mother “If the Hudson overflows” and now to bring it back to This is Us - Fun fact-The house that Kevin built for Rebecca is Allison Hannigan’s house and she played Lilly on How I met your mother - small world
I'm 42 minutes in and I just had to pause and appreciate today's episode, and the magic that Sid's scores are. I'm getting goosebumps listening to this score for the umpteenth time. This is, without a doubt, my favorite episode of this podcast so far.
Oh, Sid playing and singing ‘That was us’ must be the music at every ending episodes! I had so much fun with this! Loved it so much to know how you all bonded as a family. ❤ Thank you so much for it. Love from Brazil.
My new favorite episode and so beautiful to meet the man behind the music after all these years. I started listening to the soundtracks from the show because I fell in love with the emotion and calm rhythms of the music throughout the seasons. Listened on Spotify and now watching on RUclips!❤
I watch this podcast religiously, and this was by far my favourite episode 🥰🥺 as an Indian-South African girl who loves music, Sid's frame of reference and take on how his culture impacts (or tries not to impact) him, I have never been seen more, in a long time ❤️🙏 I really appreciate this show so much, it really taught me so much watching it as a teenager and trying to figure out life. This podcast is an amazing reminder of that ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ This show really has room and space for everyone, across all races, religions, cultures and backgrounds. Nothing else like it 🥹❤️🩹 Love from South Africa 😉🥰
Had to watch this twice, three times. Certain parts when Sidd played, more. Wow. His music is soul quenching. Full goosebumps. Thank you for making this episode and sharing Sidd and all of his creative process with us. So very poignant. 💚
This is my favorite episode so far. I know we’re all waiting for the Milo episode but learning the process of how the music was created for the show is great. I’ve been walking around alternating between singing “we can always come back to this” and “this is us”. 😂😂
This was such an amazing episode!!! Thank you Sid for making such memorable music to go along with such an amazing television show we can enjoy for decades to come!
Sidd is a genius! I listen to his music every day to focus on work, haha! Please, guys, do a fan segment about the impact of his music on the audience! I'm sure you received some good stories about the This is Us score.
I didn’t know I could love the show more than I already do. This just added so much more depth and understanding to the beauty of the show’s storytelling ❤️😭
I listened to this podcast and HAD to come back and watch the video. I never realized how much of a CORE CHARACTER the music was on This Is Us. What a great episode!!!!
One of the best episodes for sure. Thank you so much for having Siddartha Khosla. The first time I watched the pilot I said right away that music would be another character in this show and would make it or break it, and it went beyond anything I could have imagined. Beautiful episode, and beautiful stories. Stay until the very end of the video so you can hear the show's new jingle ;)
I am speechless after watching this episode. I knew the music was amazing in this show, but somehow learning the stories behind it all makes it that much more profound. You all have the most beautiful souls. Thank you so much for sharing yourselves and your stories, and thank you so much for introducing us to Sid Kholsa like this. ❤
This was an amazing podcast episode. I felt all the emotions again from the show and now headed to pull up those key episodes with all the new insight I learned.
So wonderful we get a chance to meet with and learn about the “back of the house” members for the show. And indeed the scores and melodies through all the seasons complemented the storylines. Love love love everything about the show and this podcast!!!
I'm a couple of weeks late but this is by far one of my fav rewatch episodes yet! What a wonderfully talented human being Sid is❤ Had me in tears almost the entire episode!
Oh my gosh!!! I have loved every episode of this podcast, but this one is definitely my favorite!! All of the music throughout the show was absolutely one of my FAVORITE characters! And it was definitely like another character, because it played such a beautiful and powerful role in each episode. Sid, the world is lucky to have you and thank you so much for sharing your art (and your heart). The music gets me every single time and I absolutely love it! ❤
I watch these episodes every week and enjoy them every week. But this episode was phenomenal! What a gift to meet the man behind the music that made me weep every week! Thank you for bringing this special man to the show! 🎶❤
I recently finished watching the series for the second time. I have LOVED the insights and deep dive of this podcast. I have to say, as much as I love every episode of the podcast so far, this is my new favorite. Getting to know the history of Dan & Sid's relationship all the way through is thrilling and fascinating. I now need to watch the series again and pay even more attention to all of the music and the connective themes. So beautiful. Thank you for providing a safe space to feel everything from gut-wrenching sadness to cleansing, tearful bliss each and every week and again and again with this podcast.
can’t believe you actually used 🎶 “that was us” 🎵 by Sid for this podcast’s end credit 😅👏🏻 on a serious note, this episode is so soulful , my heart feels like bursting as well as my eyes welling up just hearing sid and his original songs/scores 🥹🤍
We need a part two. I wish he would’ve talked about Goldspots cover of Come Talk to Me during that football scene when teen Randall and Kevin fight and Rebecca and Jack are not on the same page.
This was my favorite episode yet! I just loved hearing about how Sid's brilliant music was merged with the excellent acting, writing, directing and editing!! Keep going, please!!
A compelling, insightful and deeply substantive episode. Loved the idea that the music was a character of its own in the show, I think so as well. The musical selections, original pieces throughout the 6 seasons were the connective tissue between the characters, time and space, and the human condition. The conversation at 45:00 min. about the Indian influences on the score where Sidd combined the table drumming with the Indian sounds, together, they are the sounds of grief and gratitude living side by side, as life goes on...so appropriate for Jack's passing/funeral scene, a pivotal moment that changed everyone's life. Siddhartha is both humble and brilliant, a winning, transformative combination. Thank you for this wonderful episode, one I will listen to more than once.
Thank you so much for this…just amazing! The music of the show is so impactful and hearing the stories behind this music makes it even more special! Loving the podcast and telling everyone I know! ❤️
Beautiful episode! As someone training toward film and video game scoring, this episode touched me deeply. In regards to how you use your genuine emotion to inform what you write, along with the more nitty gritty stuff with how some ideas speak volumes of a piece. For instance, on my RUclips channel, I have an upcoming film that I've been scoring for about 11 months now, and there were certain chord progressions and melody that I found fitting to be repeatable in different contexts. Along with Sid's impostor syndrome, I feel a similar kind when I do this because I think I'm maybe just being lazy, but whenever I listen back to the score in its totality I think, "no, the repeat of these chords and melodies under completely different contexts per scene...turns them into THE THEME of the movie."
This is one of my favorite episodes of this podcast. We were provided so much insight of how and why decisions were made in regard to the music. It was powerful to hear that the music was the subtext to the scene. Now I understand why those moments hit so deeply. We all feel that in our life. Thanks for sharing your incredible gift with us.
well said 😲😲😲😲
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. Can we have Sid and Dan back together in an episode? 😭😭😭😭😭 this is amazing.
@@orlan.brigino Yes! Yes! Yes!
Yes 🙌🏽
At 40:00 Sidd playing the guitar 🎸 I felt it in my bones 🥲 and every one got teary esp Chris and he is just quietly sitting and observing ❤❤❤
Rewatching exactly this
I cried so hard at that part!!
It's just magic
I downloaded “We Can Always Come Back to This” after the Memphis episode, and listened on repeat (and cried) all night. Sid Khosla found his groove.
and the Hannah Miller's version got its own flavour as well
Sid is sooo cool and entertaining.. Thanks for not interrupting and leaving him the space to freely talk..
I got emotional 7 minutes in when Sid talked about who Dan is. That is wild and explains so much.
I was honestly going to skip this episode because I didn't think I would care about it, but decided to put it on in the background while I did work. I was ENTHRALLED. Absolutely fascinating, thank you for all of the background information!
The SECOND he started playing the guitar, my heart felt the gates of tears open up!!!!! 😭😭😭

The story about how they filmed Jack Damon's hit song during a break in the Chicago concert - chef's kiss!
I loved this episode, it was so fascinating. I love learning how the show came together and about the amazingly talented people that brought it to life. This is why This Is Us touches our hearts 🥰
Why did I cry at 40:32 😢❤ omg
This episode is goosebumps!! I am not done listening to this yet. But at 40 mins when sid starts playing- you get teary eyed.
Gosh. Humans are so amazing. It’s incredible to see everyone’s gift come together to make magic.
Sid!!!🎉🎉🎉 this episode!!! He uses the combination of music and story to tell us the story of the score for the show. Goosebumps!!! And lemon face and all the great feels!!!🎉🎉🎉 thank you team for bringing this episode to us
This episode is also magic, the best one of this season ❤❤❤
They looked so hypnotized when he's playing
OH MY FREAKING GOD WHEN SID START TO PLAY IS IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO HAVE GOOSEBUMPS

Thinking back on the music in general, I would definitely be interested in hearing about Nicky's Theme (Nicky's Trailer - Songbird Road: Part One). That one was particularly memorable. Also loved his characted and development throughout the series.
I listened to Memorized on repeat for months.
“Kevin’s Necklace” is my favourite score from Sid. Just impeccable ❤

This episode was one of the best. It brings light to how they added more magic to the series
this was amazing. so cool to hear the story behind the music that made this show so magical.
Full body chills multiple times this episode. Sid is so talented.
This episode made me sob when Khosla described the funeral episode and played that music.
This podcast is wonderful as I’m rewatching the series
The BEST episode on the podcast!!!! Will definitely be listening to this episode over and over again. Just like I do with the show❤

Sent chills down my back, instantly took me to those moments
What a powerfull episode! Thanks!
That story about the last song played from Sidd’s album 😢😢😢
