    For some reason, it is very comforting watching an engine build. Keep it up, I hope it all goes well.

    Superb video. If you could add to the list of tools and services any lube, cleaners thread lock (if it gets used anywhere). it would be most appreciated. Getting ready to install a short block to replace a mill that has spun a bearing. Thanks so much.

    What should we expect to pay for the parts on this build? The tutorial is great and eliminates the labor costs. Mine will be stock but I would love to build for 300K+ and some extra hp if I ever decide to play with more fuel and boost

    Is there a particular way that the cams are supposed to be oriented before installing the caps? Or is that all corrected whenever you actually time the engine? I can't seem to find anything about this anywhere.

    • @alexerickson5420
      @alexerickson5420 6 месяцев назад

      No, just make sure the lobes aren't opening the valves or have any pressure when installing and tightening the caps. Timing gets set after.

    174 in/lbs and 84 in/lbs for the cam caps is incorrect!!! Please anyone watching this for the love of god don't do that, I quickly look through the comments and didn't see anyone say anything. The head studs don't even get torqued that high! The correct spec is 7 ft/lbs for the caps near the belt and 14 in/lbs for the 2 cam caps on the rear inside the valve cover. Terrific video otherwise appreciate the effort and info.

    These guys apparently haven't read the instructions that have come from ARP since March 2017. Do NOT lube the washers! In fact the best practice is to roughen one side of the washer with 60 grit paper. Per ARP: Clean the spot faces on the cylinder head where the washer seats, use of solvent or brake/carb
    cleaner is recommended. Then, using a clean, dry rag remove all oil from both sides of each washer. The cylinder head and washer mating surfaces must be free of oil/grease/lubricant. Failure to keep these surfaces dry may result in inconsistent preloads. Place the washers over the studs and on to the dry, clean spot faces of the cylinder head. ARP Instructions for Subaru here: arpinstructions.com/instructions/260-4701.pdf. The WHY is here: www.dragzine.com/tech-stories/engine/damage-alert-how-to-avoid-pulling-threads-or-killing-head-bolts/ .
