My dad used to take me to the Sydney international motor show every year. It was the quintessential father son bonding ritual. I was 13, the year 1967, walking between the various halls there was this car being driven down from a trailer. A lime green Lamborghini Miura. It was my first supercar sighting. It punctuated my interest in cars with the loudest roar as the driver manoeuvred this sleek wedge of exotic automobile into its display. Every time i see one I’m reminded of that day and what was borne in me.

@msaleh93 It’s a “take it” or “leave it” strategy and just so you know when Ed encounters this he walks away from the deal 100% of the time.
      Seller: I need $450k
Ed: but this vehicle needs some of that to make me comfortable. (Lists numerous things the car needs) I’d really have to be in around $390k.
      Seller: I said it’s $450k I know what I have
Ed: Yes sir you do but right now I know you don’t have a sale because what the car needs vs what you want just doesn’t add up to make it worth it for me. Thank you for your time. Here is my number.
      (Guy calls months later)
Seller: Hey Ed if you still want the car I’ll do it for $400k
Ed: Oh well the market, parts, bla bla bla... I can do $375k, what do you need to get out of it?
Seller: but Ed months ago you offered me $390k??
Ed: Well that was my mistake after thinking about it I’m actually glad you didn’t take my offer.
Seller: C’mon you can do better than that.
Ed: Ok... if you make this deal quick and easy for me I’ll do $385k.
      Seller: OK
Ed: (goes to see car and pounds guy back down to $375k)
Tells everyone they met right in the middle at $375k 👍
It takes time and patience and the willing to ALWAYS walk away because there is ALWAYS another car. It’s a win win situation. The only time you lose is when it’s something you want or have to obtain.

@Agret Thanks, I used to work for a guy who negotiates like Ed. We constantly got skipped for raises and when we said something he would always give this speech about the money just isn’t there... bla bla bla then 3 days later he would drive up to the shop in a GTR he just bought and come show us his new $10k Rolex...
I was like cool... I waited like 10 minutes and asked him “what time is it?”
He pulls out his phone and says “11:30”
I said “Good thing you wasted $10k on a watch 😂”
Guy would buy the cheapest air filters for the AC and rig anything to save a buck... but when it came to something he wanted... “spared no expense”
I’m not saying Ed is like this but it wouldn’t surprise me to see Ed pull the nearly empty peanut butter jar from the trash... scold his wife about “waste” then microwave it to liquify every remaining drop of peanut butter as a “savings” while shopping for designer flyswatters. 😂

My brother found a 1967 spitfire in a barn. The tank had sand in it. He got it running and drove it. We worked at the same hospital, so I was able to help tow the car home on the days it wouldn’t run. So he gutted the car. Rebuilt everything. And ran as well as a British car could. Sold it when he had kids. Now the oldest is 16, he picked him up from a friend’s house...another 1967 spitfire was in their barn. The car was apart but the parts were in restored rust free condition. He bought it for pennies and it working on it today.

Nice Barn and Great Miura Lambo deal.!! In 1989 I went to purchase a beautiful 1967 GTO Convert in Merced CA for $7000. I show up to this farm and the son was selling off his late Father's collection. In this one barn with 14 cars, I saw a car cover with a single roll bar under it. He told me it was a Ford Cobra Mustang..?... We removed the cover and there was a AC Cobra with a 427. He told me it was listed in Hemmings for $30,000. I immediately split the $7000 into two $3500. deposits for the GTO and Cobra. I drove back to Palo Alto and got a loan from a Venture Capital Attorney I did some business with...I then raced back to Merced with $30k in cash and a 2 car trailer and did the deal.. Found a perfect 1962 Oldsmobile Cutlass F85 coupe in a small garage. Light blue metallic with white top, blue interior. 185 HP aluminum V8 with 4bbl carb, automatic transmission and 15" wheel options. Original bias ply tires, under 30K miles. The seller needed to pay nursing home bills. Her husband had been an Oldsmobile dealer, bought the car for himself right off the transport truck, never went through dealer prep so it had all the assembly line markings that normally got washed off. All it needed was a new muffler and a new battery. Replaced those along with engine oil and coolant and transmission fluid. Would be interesting to know where the car is now. Hopefully it's been well kept over the years.

My dad has a fun story. In 1998 he bought an original 1969 Boss 429 Mustang with 9,000 original miles. The guy also had a Shelby GT350 (cant remember the year) and wanted $15k for each of them. My dad would've bought both but didn't have the money, even had to borrow money to get the Boss. The car still has its original 1970 inspection sticker in the window. Found it flipping through the local newspaper classifieds.

There are still great cars out there to be found. My grandfather bought a brand new 59 Cadillac Eldorado. The family had done very well in the oil business back then and they lived in a small town in Oklahoma. So, grandpa buys his new Cadillac. That summer it has an electrical issue that disables the car. They tow it back to the house and put it in the garage. The story goes the nearest dealer is a few hours drive away & grandpa was mad because he wanted the dealer to pay for the tow and they refused. The car sat for months because, apparently, grandpa was always a stubborn old coot. Grandpa ended up buying another car and left the Cadillac sitting in the garage.
Fast forward to the 1970s. I was a young kid and I fell in love with the old car in my grandparents garage that hadn't moved since 1959. My cousin and I would spend a month or so at my grandparents house every summer and we would play in the car.
Now, early 80s, I got my drivers license and I wanted that Cadillac. Grandpa had passed away and grandma had promised it to me when I graduate high school. I graduated in 86 and started college. I had no money to put into the car and I had no place to keep it so, revised plan, I get it after I graduate college.
During this time, grandma had started thinking I wanted the car so I could sell it for the money.
Grandpa never got over the tow issue so he badmouthed the car until the day he died.
Grandma had no idea that the car had notable collector value. In her mind it was a junk car but, for all practical purposes it was as close to brand new 1959 Cadillac as you are going to find. The rubber was rotted and it had a few minor dings from leaning bikes up against it and it got a couple of door dings over the years.
Grandma was well into her 80s at this point (1993) and someone had noticed the car in her garage.
She thought the car was junk and she thought I just wanted the money from selling it.
This guy told her it would be easier if she just sold the car to him and she could give me the money.
That's what she did and she was proud that she got $1,200 for "that old piece of junk"
I missed out, I am still irritated about that. I guess the ability to hold a grudge runs in the family but my point is, there are 320 million people in the US and there are many, many car stories out there and some of them end with the car is still sitting in the garage today.
Keep looking everyone. There are plenty of hidden gems out there waiting to be found.

There are some italian sports cars that come as SS-Model from the factory (e.g. Maserati Merak SS). But of course there are those who modify/butcher cars, like Al Mardikian with the Lamborghini Countach SS.
