I went through my old notebook from Watts Atelier and shared some interesting hacks and tips for drawing the features as well as going over the anatomy of the nose. This video focuses on drawing the nose and some tips for drawing the eyes. As a student I would write down at least one or two important techniques from each class demo.Let me know if you guys like this type of voice over video. I wanted to experiment with making a shorter video to see if you like it more.

yes ou can draw anything.. and all you ideas, you can create original pieces
And you'd be right! There's a reason why good art teachers teach realism first: You have to know the rules in order to bend them and make them your own
yes knowing anatomy is important but shading and knowing about contrast and light for a 3D effect is almost even a more important skill. For the drawing in my case if its too complicated i just trace it ,,. and get that off the way. I have managed to achieve very realistic drawings with that trick and even opened my own channel :)

Wow awesome. I mostly use the techniques you use here for drawing portraits (digitally and traditional). But the one thing I never really added as a construction line (or shape rather) was the Greater Alar. I think using that for the nose is extremely efficient and now it makes drawing noses even more enjoyable. Thanks Brad. I'm always willing to learn something new even its subtle 👌🏽

Thoroughly enjoyed this video Brad. I feel like you can never learn too much about portrait drawing. Everytime I watch tutorials there is always something else I gain. Awesome explanations. Wonderful video and just feel privileged to be able to sit here and watch someone like you draw! I was struggling with noses, then you said think of a nose in its most basic shape or whatnot and it made noses so much easier when I grasped that idea.
Have the most basic shape and build upon it.
I guess that is all of drawing and art as a whole isn't it.
Great job breaking down the forms of the nose. I found this really helpful as I sometimes struggle with diversity of look in portraits.

You are totally amazing, I have been involved in Art Therapy, and teaching public school art for more than 30 years,, but I have never heard or seen those parts of the face explained and demonstrated in such an incredible way. I am also USArmy, retired, disabled from 3 wars, and 4 combat tours, losing my Commander, soldiers, and too many friends. I have drawn and sketched most of my life, but never at your level. I will definitely look forward to your future lessons, maybe at my 75 years, with combat disabilities, I can still keep learning, thank you,

I am returning to art as a dabbler after decades of sporadic drawing. At 73, I am finding that your lessons are so user-friendly and relaxing. If I could have had youtube in the 80's, I would be so much further along now I think.

For a while I tried practicing the whole head. I didn't think to instead of combining all the elements in one, try practicing combining just two elements, like the eyes and the nose. This is useful. ^^

Your video, models and personal style is great. I am taking a fashion sketching course at junior santa monica college level. I am horrible but hopeful, I find fashion sketches to be so cute and interesting. I am not an art student, neither I wish to be an artist but is nice to learn new skills. I had seen a few videos and I had not realized or you had not mentioned that you went to Watttss, but I was able to recognize the really really good technique in your work and it did remind me of some videos I have seen from Jeff and now I am at the beginning of this video and saying damn! I wish it was possible for me to go to watts!!! TTuTT Sadly, I´m from Mexico and getting a visa and being able to pay for my stay is just way impossible at the moment, and probably will be for at least a few years. Hopefully some day, in the future, I really do hope to be able to learn there some day.
