It’s really a problem if they are monolingual, bus should be affordable for the masses. I guess if you’re in the province the roads will be narrower as compared to those in the city… The fact that you stayed means it must be your better option

Yes the language is an issue. Everything is in Japanese. You reminded me.. When we went there for training in November, we were wrapped up all over like a dumpling. While the Frankfurt Base Crews just wore a sweater and shorts and out they go. Haha. And there was once we experienced a very minor and short earthquake. Everyone of us were so shocked! It's our first time experiencing earthquake! So in some ways Singaporeans are fortunate.

It is true that Singaporeans are fortunate not to experience earthquakes as often as Japan! Thanks for visiting after such a long time

Where do you recommend to live / retire? For those w/o Japanese spouses. Was thinking of Fukuoka being safest away from the Nankai Trough and mildest weather. Is it cheaper to rent or buy?

If you can speak and write Japanese and able to reside then renting is cheaper.

You are right Fukuoka is relatively safe. My in laws and their fore parents had been living here for generations
