I noticed while checking the interview that I never circled back to the question: Why are German leaders subservient to the US? So I went back and asked John and here is his answer: "Germany is subservient to the United States mainly because it fears that Washington will abandon Europe for East Asia. Given the US concern with the China threat, German leaders worry that America will “pivot to Asia,” which effectively means it will pivot away from Europe. This matters greatly to German foreign policy elites because they understand that the American military presence in Europe serves as a pacifier-it is principally responsible for peace in Europe. Thus, German leaders go to great lengths not to alienate the United Stares for fear that it would then leave Europe, which would mean Germany is responsible for its own security, a thought that scares most Germans half-to-death. To prevent that outcome, contemporary Germany invariably backs US policy, which is not always in Germany’s national interest. This was certainly the case in April 2008 when Angela Merkel supported the Bush administration’s foolish decision to bring Ukraine into NATO, even though she understood it would lead to enormous trouble with Russia."

Well done Frau Kosubek!
Good conversation but I think there was a major misconception implicit in one of Jasmin's questions during the Israel-Gaza section of this podcast. Her question implied that the Palestinians are i) a population of refugees, ii) that that has been their status since their displacement in 1948 and iii) they should come to terms with their loss and move on because iv) it is a foregone conclusion that they are not going to get their country back and their fight is therefore futile. That may or may not be true for Palestinians living in refugee camps in the surrounding Arab countries who might never be permitted back into what is today Israel proper. But what about the Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza? Granted some of them are refugees from the Nakba (1948) who were expelled from what became Israel. But they are now living on land - the West Bank and Gaza - where they are a clear majority and that does not legally belong to Israel. This land could form the basis of a Palestinian State in the event of a two state solution. Should they accept their permanent statelessness? Should they leave and go elsewhere as refugees to eventually be assimilated into another country? Or should they struggle for their rights and self-determination on territory which i) has historically been their's, ii) where they are still living as an overwhelming majority and iii) that has been earmarked by the United Nations as the basis of an eventual Palestinian state.
It is incorrect to say that the Palestinians are a majority in Gaza as jews are simply not allowed there. Gaza was free of jews since 2006, when Israel left Gaza completely in the pursuit of peace. What happened next was that Hamas took over. Gaza had the chance and the freedom to determinate themselves since 2006. Yet Hamas chose terror. And unfortunately an overwhelming majority of Palestinians do not fight for and do not want a two-state solution. They want the whole territory and the jews gone. Check the channel „ask an Israeli/ask a Palestinian“. You will hear their answers.
@@svenr.8365😂😂😂really? Are u sure? It IS completely thé opposite. Who rejects since the beginning the 2 staats solution? Even the UNO is completely ignored.
Those in Gaza and Westbank should join Israel, the best choice they could make for themselves and their children. But they wont do that and probably even if they would want to now, I don't think Israel could accept it at this point. All sails a set for war now and the lines are as blurry as they have never been. Your remark about history is simply wrong for the fact that the history of this place is much older than the ethnic people identifying themselves as Palestinian. Heck the Islam is the youngest of the three big religions yet they have the wildest claims about history. Don't let these things get to your head, all religious fanatics will tell you the same no matter from which side. The logical choice would be to let history rest and settle with an agreement under which all involved people can be okay with. Issue is now, can you find such an agreement between people living a dogmatic philosophy? If I had a say in German politics about this, I would withdraw any financial help for Palestine via UN and any help for Israel, UNTIL, both sides would stop any hostile actions and start seriously talking to each other how their people can live in peace. And that will require from both to step back from historical and religious claims, and settle on the shared humanity. For someone not trapped in a dogmatic world view this seems rather simple.
@@svenr.8365 Your description of what happened in Gaza in 2006 is completely inaccurate. Gaza was occupied by Israel in 1967 during the course of a war. The Israeli settlements that were built in Gaza were illegal because under international law it is illegal to transfer a population into an occupied territory. Furthermore, the settlements, in both the Gaza and the West Bank, were a major obstacle to the peaceful resolution of the conflict because they undermined the viability of a future Palestinian state. When Israel left Gaza in 2006, they dismantled settlements (which should not have been there in the first place because they were a violation of international law), but they did not dismantle the occupation. In fact, they maintained their control over the borders, the surrounding waters as well as the airspace, deciding who and what could go in and go out. Over time, the occupation was turned into a brutal, suffocating siege which only allowed in the minimal number of calories to ensure Gazans had only just enough sustenance to survive. Gaza was turned into a barely habitable concentration camp, in order to make the lives of the Palestinian inhabitants unbearable so that they would leave. Moreover, the settler withdrawal from Gaza was part of a broader plan to accelerate settlement building in the West Bank, which was also a major violation of international law and which the Israelis proceeded to do immediately after "leaving" Gaza. They withdrew 8 to 9 thousand settlers from Gaza, but in the following year alone introduced 12 thousand new settlers into the West Bank.
@ Sorry, but this is complete nonsense. First of all it is totally normal, that a sovereign state maintains control over it‘s own borders. This is part of the definition of being a state. And furthermore it is unevitable if Your neighbour endlessly commits terror attacs on Your country. This argument is childish. And why do You think that Israel has any obligation to supply water to Gaza? Why do You not ask that from Egypt, that has a border to Gaza by the way too? Israel had no control of the border to Egypt, so all Your further arguments are nonsense too. How could Israel prevent Egypt from providing anything to Gaza from its own border? Few other countries got such huge amounts of international aid that did Gaza. And where is all the money? No water supply. No own educational system. Nothing for the population. But terror tunnels and rockets. And Hamas leaders who are billionaires. And by the way: How did they leave Gaza to go to Qatar if it is so closed up? 🤦🏻♀️ If the situation would be the way that You describe it, I would agree with You. No doubt. But it is not. Still I feel really sorry for the population of Gaza because they are being used by the iranian mullahs and other islamists to put pressure and to perpetrate terror on Israel. Gazans should be freed from Hamas and Iran.

The answer to the genocide question is simple: there is a legal threshold, look up "genocide convention 1948" Why do the neigboring states not help ? Even though support for Palestinian rights is overwelming, those are not democratic states so their leaders do not make decicions based on the will of the public. I think Germany has a serious problem understanding this matter. According to international law, Gaza, west bank, east Jerusalem, Golan heights and the Jordan Valley are illegal settlements under International law. This means all unlawful settlers will have to be removed from those areas.
To add to your point, Regimes in Jordan and Egypt are propped up by the United States. See list of US aid recipients. As for Saudi Arabia, the tyrannical rulers are afraid of their subjugated population and count on the US to keep them in power, an example was when the current crown prince wanted to overthrow his cousin he needed the green light from the White House and when Obama seemingly said no, they waited for Trump who agreed in return for arm deals and basically shaking down the Saudis.
She believes that because some areas of Gaza are semi-developed and maintained, it doesn’t qualify as an open-air prison. This overlooks the fact that Palestinians are incredibly resourceful and resilient people.
Very disgusting also that Europeans drove out natives from America and Australia, right? And FYI it was the Arabs who first ethnically cleansed the Arabic peninsula from Jews and Christians.

Genozid?
Täter-Opfer-Umkehr ist, was Sie hier praktizieren.
Would love to see an interview with you and Prof. Jeffrey Sachs and for a better understanding of the Israel/Palestine conflict, an interview with Norman Finkelstein or Max Blumenthal would be great too !
If you want an objective perspective, that's not the way to go. Thats like saying "I should read Marx and Engels to understand socialism and communism". YOur statement says that you want to understand how to blame Israel better, not understanding the conflict
I suggested these two because in my opinion one should always listen to all sides involved in a conflict and as it's quite obvious to most people who follow German mainstream media, in most cases you only get presented the Israeli point of view and everything else gets the usual labels attached to silence any critical voices ...
The tense conversation around Israel/Gaza situation near the end was great to see. It was cathartic and needed to be asked. We need more honest and difficult conversations around this topic. I appreciate what you're trying to say too, Jasmin. We'd all like a resolution to it. Please have on more people like Mearsheimer. Trying to explain this with "agnosticism" in the face of what the whole world can witness every single day makes me very sad and almost hopeless. Perhaps the seed you have planted will grow into a small plant of hope, even if it seems weak at first.
Always a pleasure to listen to Prof. Mearsheimer. This is a welcome change from the provincial German mainstream media.
Not voting for Trump and not voting for Harris - I fully agree!
Also I would love to se all of John Mearsheimer, Jeffrey Sachs, Glenn Diesen and Aaron Maté , to name a few, touring West Europe.
There is A LOT to be learned from their insight and integrity .
The beginning of the interview was good. After that she's making very strange arguments. "Sometimes things are unfair" excuse me?? If the Netherlands tomorrow decides to take over Belgium and remove all the people to France. Should the Belgian, accept that? Cause yeah sometimes things go unfair... What logic is this???
I totally agree, it is even strange that her English and reasoning become poor when talking about Palestine and Israel
Could not agree with you more.
Her expectation that the Palestinians simply shut up shop after centuries of connection to the land.
Could imagine saying to an Englishman or American to do that?
Didn't also like the way she generalised about Arabs
Exactly what I was thinking!
@@MasKurto-mv5ieI noticed also that, she started to forget English words and so on, and saying; I am just agnostic
Well ya know, Germans have a constant problem of always being on the wrong side of history. Her abominable ideas & views is a mask-off moment...👹
You know what I think after 3 years of lisening to Professor John Meirsheimer? What a nice guy,
Thank god he's not taken seriously in the US.
Holy shit!!! I already loved your German content and guests, but you got Prof. Mearsheimer on your channel, WOW!!!! He is one of my favorite people!! You are amazing!!! Thank you!!!

Another masterclass from Prof. Mearsheimer.

Well done Frau Kosubek!
Amazed to see how an intelligent person works so hard to look stupid...jasmin is painful to see playing the genocide down...
If the situation would be the way that You describe it, I would agree with You. No doubt. But it is not.
Still I feel really sorry for the population of Gaza because they are being used by the iranian mullahs and other islamists to put pressure and to perpetrate terror on Israel. Gazans should be freed from Hamas and Iran.

Danke an Prof. Mearsheimer.
The answer to the genocide question is simple: there is a legal threshold, look up "genocide convention 1948"
Why do the neigboring states not help ?
Thank you for teaching Jasmine a lesson. She was acting naively while she knows it all.
She believes that because some areas of Gaza are semi-developed and maintained, it doesn’t qualify as an open-air prison. This overlooks the fact that Palestinians are incredibly resourceful and resilient people.
Wow. She basically says "just accept being driven off your land!" At least she's honest but very disgusting.
Very disgusting also that Europeans drove out natives from America and Australia, right?
And FYI it was the Arabs who first ethnically cleansed the Arabic peninsula from Jews and Christians.
Great interview. I'm glad the German police didn't arrest Prof. Mearsheimer for saying unflattering things about Israel. hahaha
John Mearsheimer is taking a moral position and not a political one! John Mearsheimer has skillfully cornered Jasmin Kosubek, and hopefully, this will help her see the reality more clearly.
Amazing conversation. Thanks a lot to Jasmin for inviting him. You are a great host and speaks perfect English. I feel really sorry for you (Jasmin) for not being able to critize the criminal regime running Israel. Sad cancel culture in Germany!!! Bitte, unbedingt übersetzen lassen. She basically saying gaza ain’t a apartheid because it’s pretty .. like blaming a prisoner for decorating his cell and telling him it’s not a cell anymore
Wow! Mearsheimer is very present on youtube. For the most part, i know pretty much word for word what he is going to say to any question thrown at him. This interview really stands out for the quality of the questions.
Totally true... The questions she asked were great and so different which brought out different answers by Mersheimer.. She did wonderful (she as a horrible bias/ moral compass though) and it makes me realize that Mersheimer, Sachs, Ritter etc... need to be asked different questions to the ones that have now become mainstream to get unique interviews...
Ok she has screwed up now with the argument 1h25m 😂
No you can’t steal someones land and not expect the people to resist!!
Germans did. They did not expect resistance during ww2. Once a murderer always a murderer.

Yes it's dark and largely disappointing knowing how terrible things are projected to play out. However, if we have more people like this that can communicate an effective analysis of the situation we can maybe hope that others can come along and start contributing towards a social synthesis that can resolve all these troubling concerns. I think we need leaders we don't currently have. Thank you for this great discussion.

One of the best open discussion I have heard on very important issues! Thank you very much!
What i found horrifying about the "final solution " was not the numbers murdered . But the fact that it was carried out in such a "matter of fact " manner ,by a civilised nation . Listening to this intelligent lady , who can be agnostic about a similar situation happening in Gaza , obviously her brain works differently to mine. " Her point being "As the palestinians can't win they should pack up and go and if they won't they must accept their faith . Unlike the Israelis ,most of show have duel nationalities ,the palestinians have nowhere else to go
You claim that Israel pursues a policy of "the final solution" towards the Palestinians. How exactly are they doing it? Do they build extermination camps to deliberately murder all of them?
thanks proff mearsheimer for being straight-forward and always focusing on what matters
Outstanding journalism. Many thanks Jasmin.
Ist's Not necesserily outstanding, it is that we do Not see such experts in Mainstream Media. We are thirsty for alternative voices as Mearsheimer calls it. We are sick of Mainstream Propaganda.

Very interesting point of view of Jasmin on Israel-Palestine conflict. So it's ok if someone attacks another country and get their territory. Would you think the same if Russia wants East-Germany back. Would you give that back? Please dont start an objective discussion and then get back to the "I dont care view until it' doesnt touch me". But kudos to get Mr. Mearsheimer on the table. Great guy!
What are you even talk about, East Germany was never part of USSR. They were a satelite. And USsR offered Germany unification, which Adenauer rejected in exchange for NATO accession

Fantastic interview and I admire your passion. The later part argument/discussion with Prof Mearsheimmer is enchanting

Especially when she says she doesn’t understand why other countries don’t just accept 2m Palestinian refugees! Jasmine, would you like to welcome 2m Palestinian refugees in Germany since your govt supports Israel? Probably not! This situation is similar with many other countries but as the Professor quite rightly points out to you why should the Palestinians go somewhere when they have their own land?! 🤯
