H-Arcanine also being a fire type is gonna make it a tough sell when Incinaroar finally drops. - However Banded Rock Slide is devastating and may be the niche that continues to carry it. Once Tera is gone though I think its may remain semi-used with its more aggressive sets being more common than its support sets as its typing lends it.

Harcanine with it's quad-weaknesses in a metagame where those are common threats: "The horrors persist, but so do I"
I think that in future generations, Harcanine might decrease in usage, but only insofar as it will be comparable in usage to its kantonian cousin, with some teams favoring the slightly better attacking power of harc while others prefer the speed regular arcanine. Future generations might also see Harc take on even more offensive roles, taking advantage of its ability Rock Head to be able to smack things with flare blitz without the recoil ruining calcs.

Arcanine Hisui is an awesome teammate for a variety of mons and has a great matchup into Top threats. As long as Flutter Mane, Tornadus, Chien Pao, D Nite, non defiant physical mons are popular it will be an excellent addition to most teams. It also has the positive matchup into Psyspam which you have to love as a ladder player. I think even without Tera it will be a popular choice in formats where Redirection mons (Sinistcha, Ogrepon-Water and Amoonguss) are available.

HArcanine will probably drop in usage when the omnipresent cat drops in december, but I think it could be an interesting alternative pick, sacrificing the defensive/utility pressure of incineroar for the amazing offensive pressure if the match calls for it.
On top of that, Harcanine threatens incineroar with its brutal rock stabs, and can deal impressive chip if it hard switches thanks to its pretty good attack stat.

Learned something similar occured with Ogerpon. Its Teal and Cornerstone Mask forms were quickly dismissed over its Wellspring and Hearthflame masks because of its typing. However, those furst two ended up being the ones to reach top 8 at one point because attributes like abilities and the fact that Teal Mask can hold another held item.
Love seeing the ones judged underdogs dominating. Oh, also most of Cornerstone Mask’s weaknesses also happen to be weak to Rock, being Flying, Bug, Poison, Fire and Ice. All except for Poison, Rock Type Ivy Cudgle answers for all of them.

I’m not a fan of how it feels like so many Pokémon are solely reliant on it. It’s like how Megas made everything so telegraphed. “Oh, Gengar is here? I wonder if it’s going to be exactly what I think it is.” You would never bring something like Seviper to a match unless you Tera it to something like Flying and everyone knows that, including your opponent. 5:15 keeping in mind that Terastalization might leave after gen 9, what exactly would BE the next gimmick? The only thing I could think of was an item that let's your pokémon be able to change its ability mid game, so pokémon like Ttar and H-Arc could get the benefits of both Sand Stream + Unnerve and Intimidate + Rock Head respectively
As for how it'll age, honestly that typing is literally the one thing holding it back. It's a similar story to Gen 1 Dragonite, where it having Flying Type actively made it worse since it lost its Electric resistance and gained a new weakness to Rock and doubled down on its Ice Weakness. If it was Fire/Ground or like Fire/Psychic or literally anything other than Fire/Rock, it'd be so much better as a support mon, but as long as Incin is in the meta and it has that typing, it'll have so much trouble

  • @pokatana4130
    @pokatana4130 Год назад +6

I think it depends on the format. Hisuian Arcanine is seeing play because its typing offensively helps deal with pao-nite teams. And its natural typing can help resist flying, normal, and fairy moves (which is something incin and lando lack). Plus, it's a Fire/Rock type that's not slow and defensive making use of its offensive capabilities. In the right situations, I think hisuian arcanine can still see play with proper board positioning and correct partners. We've seen coalossal work in gen 8 (because of dynamax, increased speed from its ability if hit by a water move, and the proper partners). For this mon to be relevant, it needs to be able to live hits from common threats while also being fast enough to take KOs. If it relies too heavily on tera to live hits (just like how dmax helps coalossal live hits), I could see it drop in usage in the future. However, there are times when you don't need to tera and have Hisuian Arcanine rely on its natural typing if its suitable.
Just like in your showcase, you didn't need to tera arcanine at all because it's better to use it on another mon.

Arcanine Hisui will be good even when Tera is gone. Rock Fire is a good Offensive Typing and Intimidate is a good ability. What Incineroar has over regular Arcanine is more tool and better typing. However, Arcanine has Rock stab and good offensive pressure. Therefore, even after gen 9 people will need to chose between the offensive pressure of H-Arcanine or the Support of Incineroar. I know Incin will ALWAYS be dominant in restricted formats, but depending on the meta, I can see H-Arcanine see use

  • @jameshonaker585

I feel like Arcanine-H still might have a small niche without Terastalization, thanks to Rock Head and its pairing of Flare Blitz and Head Smash. It's not the strongest purveyor of that trick, but Flare Blitz and even Wild Charge are good tools to get past that (along with its other coverage, like Close Combat).

I personally think that Hisuian Arcanine usage will drop off a cliff once Tera is out the window.
The way I see it, if you take away Tera H.Arcanine is just a Rampardos with Intimidate: Theoretically awesome, but it's paper thin defences (Fire/Rock is as bad defensively as it is awesome offensively) and awkward Speed Tier (80 generally tends to be too fast for Trick Room and too slow outside of it) mean that it's a Glass Cannon that can't reliably get a hit off before going down.
Furthermore, if you're ONLY bringing it for Intimidate, there are probably better 'Mons for that (Such as OG Arcanine, who while weaker and squishier statistically, is actually a bit more survivable due to not having Rock's weaknesses and is actually fast enough to reliably get a move off before getting splattered)

It may still be used offensively moving forward, especially with a choice band, but it's use and potential will definitely decrease if teras are gone next gen, which I agree they will be. Unlike most mons with a 4x weakness, Arcanine has 2, so you can't even reliably give it a berry to take one 4x attack because it's weak to two very prevalent types so no matter what you'll always be vulnerable to a full strength 4x attack. I mean, earthquake alone is such a broadly used move that a 4x weakness to it sucks, but even if you use a berry or air balloon for that, the other 4x weakness is water and every team brings water coverage. It will be a tough sell once teras are gone - not unusable, but certainly much more difficult to make work.

I think Tera, especially if it is somehow visible either through open-teams ruleset or just clearly identified in-game, could be a staple of Pokemon for years to come. I think it is the best and most balanced "once-per-game" gimmicks, even more than Megas. With Megas, you were basically forced to only ever run one Mega Pokemon and almost always immediately mega-volve it as soon as it hit the field. Tera allows all six/four of your mons to be potential Teras, and it is not as bullshit as Dynamax was. Really, if I would change anything it would be to reduce or eliminate same-type tera boosts.

Hisui arcanine was not a pokemon i was expecting to be top tier. That typing paired with not the best speed stat means I thought it would die before it could do anything but intimidate, which normal arcanine could do with less risk
Goes to show what i know

Tried telling people in reg D...H Arcanine is HIM! Fire and rock are great offensively. Plus has intimidate, stab on rock slide unlike lando and e speed. Wisp and howl if you're feeling cheeky. Pairs well with rillaboom, gastro, and water absorb/storm drain mons cause eq/water moves so obvious into it to call a switch

Obviously Hisuian Arcanine will drastically drop without Tera lol but it will however still always have a niche over regular arcanine because of that rock STAB.

Honestly I wish Tera would stay from now on since frankly it's been the best gimmick GF has introduced so far IMO. Versatile, defensively useful and powerful offensive tool all in one package.

Rock and Fire STAB are fantastic offensively and terrible defensively. But with Tera, who cares! One of my favorite ever VGC Pokémon. Thriving in Gen 9!

I don’t think any VGC player thought it would use rock head
We all know how broken intimidate is
