Honestly, I can totally imagine the hisuian growlithe needing to level up with another growlithe in the party and both of them joining and evolving into a two headed arcanine
Other inspirations for Hisuian Growlithe are the old sprites of Growlithe and Arcanine where their fur was more "round" (similar to Hisuian Growlithe) and also one of the desings of the beta pre-evolution of Growlithe had a horn on his head. Probably Hisuian Arcanine will look like to that beta-mon that presumably was going to be an evolution of Arcanine back in gen 2 games

My biggest hope, is that they make a unova legends game where we see reshiram and zekroms combined form, or a Kalos game where we see the pokemon war and give yveltal and xerneas a proper role in that game. And maybe even see AZ again
oh yeah the land bridge thing... during the ice age... that means, maybe both hisuian Braviary and Zorua really are just early predecessors to the Unovan variants! the Unovans are just populations that migrated and later evolved to suit their new less frigit habitats!
I am so happy Basculin has a evolution now, I am hoping that there is still the eastern/western gimmick of the Basculin in this game, so that Basculegion has two forms.
This was the best video I've seen about old Sinnoh. Very well detailed, amazing script and impeccable research! Honestly, here in Brazil it won't be possible for me to have this game, just a matter of time. Congratulations on the video bro, success for you.
There's a lot of connections to Russia with these new pokemon, I kind of wonder if it's a Hint to the next Generation having a lot of Russian mythology and influence?
I personally think that if there were to ever be a region with double the amount of gyms or even a gym for every type, I'd be Russia~ Russia's big enough and could be an opportunity to expand on the minor league gyms thing that Galar introduced, by having a bunch of optional gyms that you could go to mid story for grinding and unlocking some other minor things~
It might just be because the colonization of Hokkaido had Russia looming as a threat in the Japanese consciousness. I just think it would be super cool if we started getting regions we haven't seen yet referenced by name, and so "Russia" keeps getting referenced, even if we're not going there next gen. It would help the world feel bigger.
Crazy, Japan’s government in 2008 (I believe) recognized the Ainu culture. I remember when I was still living in Japan, it really wasn’t a big deal. But now it’s huge according to all of my family and friends back home.To have all of these references, it’s charming and a good nod for a long forget people
I wonder if that means if we will get more Hisuinian forms. Like a Hisuinian Lycanroc inspired by the Hokkaido Wolf, make it forms representative by the Ainu’s representation of the Horkew Kamuy, and Meji’s representation of them as a noxious species which lead to its extermination.
I'm so happy that Stantler is getting an evolution. Several months ago I made a comment on a Forgettable Pokemon video saying that Stantler was my favorite Pokemon due to a childhood friend giving me a shiny Stantler before passing away. You can't imagine my joy when I saw this evolution.
They tend to put tons of thought into designs, especially (although far from exclusively) in newer games. Whether the designs work or not? That's down to subjectivity.
There are many periods of time more Legends-style games should explore. Observe: 1. Legends Zygarde and the Post-War recolonizing of Kalos. 2. Legends Kyurem would explore an actual Medieval setting with the Unovan Kings fighting for their ideals and right to rule. 3. Legends Tapu featuring the early culture and closeness of the Alolan people with their Pokémon and the first invading Ultra Beasts. You could justify at least one entry for each region, including whole new ones.
That russian furry hat is also called "ushanka", most specificaly, the one with the ear flaps. also, Hokaido Wolfs remind me of "Wolf Children", and that makes me sad :(
Basculegion looks freaking insane. OMG, it looks so cool. And it already entered my top 30 most favorite pokemon of all time. It can even enter my top 10 after I will use in the upcoming games.
Wow! You put in a crazy amount of research into this! It really makes me appreciate these designs so much more! Well done! I now look forward to seeing your breakdowns on the rest of the Hisuian forms!
I've been wondering if that was foreshadowing of a Russia inspired region being next, it's unlikely but they do tend to foreshadow a new region in SOME way (like the sideways galar painting in Alola if I remember correctly)
would I love about many of the early pokemon design is they just had a random single horn on their heads, like weedle, nidoran evolution lines, Rapidash, Cloyster, Onyx, Ryhorn, Dewgong, Seaking, Lapras, Dragonite and now Growlithe is joining the squad with it's Hisiun form

I love the nice golden kamuy reference when you were explaining kamuy
"Lockstin is totally gonna explain the biblical reference in Basculegion's name" - Me before watching the video...
What the heck Lockstin?
Legion? as in we are Legion? The multiple demon/spirits that Jesus cast into a field of pigs that drowned themselves?
Yeah I was suprised he didnt say that.
I was also confused when he didn't mention it, but it could be because Christianity just isn't that big in that are of the world so it probably wasn't an influence? Idk
"For we are many."
I HEARD THAT TWEWY “ARE YOU READY” AND HONESTLY, EXCELLENT TASTE.
Sorry for the all caps, I just really love TWEWY and NTWEWY. u_u
I really hope this direction can come to explain the great pokemon war in some game in the future
"White spotted char"
You may have accidentally predicted White Stripe Basculin while looking for Basculegion inspirations
Man oh man, as a Westerner, I feel so humbled and enlightened to learn more and more of Japan and ancient myths in general.
Keep it up Lockstin, your research is so great and well fined, I have learned so much from your channel. Keep it up!
9:54 It's also worth noting that the Japanese huchen (伊當, "itou", in Japanese) is specifically referenced in Basculegion's Japanese name, "Idaitou".
These are some seriously cool connections! I love how everything comes together with multiple facets with the more modern Pokemon. I'm curious to see if your Hisuian Growlithe evolution theory is correct, and I am hoping that it is.
I really want to see a flock hisuinian braviary hanging out with a galarian articuno its perfect since they both got masquerades on their faces
It says they're usually alone so that's unlikely
About the Shiisa and Komainu: they're slightly different. Shiisa is specifically in Okinawa and the Ryukyu Islands while the Komainu are in the other parts of Japan.
something you forgot for Basculegion is: "We are many, We are one, We are Legion."
Wyrdeer has Alan Watts' beard which may also explain the psychic type :D
Dude, you're a talented speaker/ talker. Anyone else told you that?? You capture attention. Were you a teacher at one point?? Keep up the good work! 👍🏼👍🏼
Hisuian Growlithe is basically just Shadowside Komasan in Shadowside form but with a horn lol.
hisuian braviary's thing over it's eyes remide me of the helmoroc king from wind waker
I'm Guessing this took days to make. Otherwise, Finally! I've been Waiting for this Video for Days.
I love basculegian! I’m a huge wo’a type lover especially fish. And this is one of the coolest fish mon out there
I would love a legends game in kalos, seeing french forms of Pokémon and also the WAR would be cool
Sinnoh/Hisui Region: Wanna see me give evolutions to forgotten Pokemon?, Wanna see me do It again?
Gonna listen to the Okami ost the whole time I'm playing this game
also cool thing is okami also has ainu culture inspiration present in the game when you head to the northern lands late in the game
Sika deer can be found on the Delmarva Peninsula, primarily because they were introduced to that environment.
Honestly I am happy to see so much Ainu influence here, I feel in love with their culture and aesthetic from Golden Kamuy and Utawarerumono so this game is going to be amazing.
Very cool! Also, thanks for that part at the end about wolves & creation... I now have a better understanding of the show Wolf's Rain.
Inb4 basculegion has speed boost
Also i am looking foward to the new speed system hope they import that to the main games
would be stupid if they didn't do it ... but we're talking about gf
My biggest hope, is that they make a unova legends game where we see reshiram and zekroms combined form, or a Kalos game where we see the pokemon war and give yveltal and xerneas a proper role in that game. And maybe even see AZ again
You should make a video, making all the kascadian pokémon shiny forms (i’ve been asking for so long)
oh yeah the land bridge thing... during the ice age...
that means, maybe both hisuian Braviary and Zorua really are just early predecessors to the Unovan variants!
the Unovans are just populations that migrated and later evolved to suit their new less frigit habitats!
*stares at Wyrdeer's horns... continues staring * It's two Meltan?
Having this region with an alt evo for decidueye that's not a ghost type would be cool.
I am so happy Basculin has a evolution now, I am hoping that there is still the eastern/western gimmick of the Basculin in this game, so that Basculegion has two forms.
i like that part where gnoggin speaks bass in the name 11:30
This was the best video I've seen about old Sinnoh. Very well detailed, amazing script and impeccable research! Honestly, here in Brazil it won't be possible for me to have this game, just a matter of time. Congratulations on the video bro, success for you.
2:40 well, there does appear to be an icy land mass connecting Hisui to somewhere else
I said that I would be counting the second to when Lockstin made this, but then I forgot.
These videos are so accurate and well-researched that it almost makes me think Lockstin is actually a GameFreak insider.
There's a lot of connections to Russia with these new pokemon, I kind of wonder if it's a Hint to the next Generation having a lot of Russian mythology and influence?
It’s basic geography. Look at a map of the world. Look how close Japan is to Russia.
Look how close Hokkaido is to Russia.
I personally think that if there were to ever be a region with double the amount of gyms or even a gym for every type, I'd be Russia~
Russia's big enough and could be an opportunity to expand on the minor league gyms thing that Galar introduced, by having a bunch of optional gyms that you could go to mid story for grinding and unlocking some other minor things~
I doubt so, but it would be neat. I'd love a Baba Yaga Pokémon.
Pokémon hammer and Pokémon sickle.
Crazy, Japan’s government in 2008 (I believe) recognized the Ainu culture. I remember when I was still living in Japan, it really wasn’t a big deal. But now it’s huge according to all of my family and friends back home.To have all of these references, it’s charming and a good nod for a long forget people
Love your content, lockstin!! Such hard work in the videos, I appreciate it so much ❤️
I wonder if that means if we will get more Hisuinian forms. Like a Hisuinian Lycanroc inspired by the Hokkaido Wolf, make it forms representative by the Ainu’s representation of the Horkew Kamuy, and Meji’s representation of them as a noxious species which lead to its extermination.
I always thought stantler was pure psychic, the only move I remember it using was hypnosis.
Oggh Stantler is finally getting some love... it brings a tear to my eye 😢
I say it: Stantler is not forgetable and has one of the best relation between design and inspiration of any pokemon.
Still a diaper deer
11:48 That's at least a C+
Does anybody else notice that basculegions back looks like the dynamax clouds?
No, but I would like to see if that has some connection to dynamax/gigantamax
@@CatoonaTheMaster me too
I'm so happy that Stantler is getting an evolution. Several months ago I made a comment on a Forgettable Pokemon video saying that Stantler was my favorite Pokemon due to a childhood friend giving me a shiny Stantler before passing away. You can't imagine my joy when I saw this evolution.
so dope seeing how much thought they actually put into design thanks for letting us know
They tend to put tons of thought into designs, especially (although far from exclusively) in newer games. Whether the designs work or not? That's down to subjectivity.
There are many periods of time more Legends-style games should explore. Observe:
Nice job as usual, Lockstin! Keep it up!
Sanook and Basculegion are so weirdly similar, I remember thinking of Sanook when I first saw Basculegion.
Ooh, I’ve been waiting for this.
I am amazed at how deep into the designs this channel goes. Every time.
My theory is that Basculegion only evolves form the red form of Basculin and the blue form evolves into something else.
Or blue just doesn't exist there
Wow! You put in a crazy amount of research into this! It really makes me appreciate these designs so much more! Well done!
I now look forward to seeing your breakdowns on the rest of the Hisuian forms!
Imagine if some of these Pokemon migrated to Poke-Russia.
It's hard to find Ainu myth and legend information on the Internet. What are your sources?
I've been wondering if that was foreshadowing of a Russia inspired region being next, it's unlikely but they do tend to foreshadow a new region in SOME way (like the sideways galar painting in Alola if I remember correctly)
A Russian Pokémon region would be great if only because it would justify plenty of Ice Pokémon being found early on.
Or Ice Pokemon would be 50% of the dex.
would I love about many of the early pokemon design is they just had a random single horn on their heads, like weedle, nidoran evolution lines, Rapidash, Cloyster, Onyx, Ryhorn, Dewgong, Seaking, Lapras, Dragonite and now Growlithe is joining the squad with it's Hisiun form
wydeer is just satori, the lord of the mountain from breath of the wild lol
Yes without the eyes
Speaking of forgotten and underrated Pokémon, I hope that my bois Finneon and Lumineon get some well deserved attention
You say that Basculegions spirit energy flows but it looks just as static (and wrong) as Musharna's smoke. I'm dissapointed.
This is insanely in-depth . Which is why I freaking LOVE your videos
