Beautiful table and your tricks to make it an easier build are great. I love not having to climb over the seat or getting kicked by someone trying to get out.
This is truly a great picnic table design! When we moved several years ago, we left a good picnic table cause of the construction & weight. With your table, the top looks easy to remove & load separately from the base! Great job👍👍👍
Ok so update. Took me a week. I only used a circular saw and a drill. This was my first big project and your plans made it super easy. Can't get the same wood here in Australia so I used 90x45mm pine for the frame and 140x19mm merbau for the seats and table top. Looks amazing 🤩
Excellent description, parts list and cut list! I built this table in a couple evenings. I'll post the pics if you want. Thank you! -Andy from Pennsylvania.
What a fantastic design. Love all your guys projects you bring to us out here in RUclips land. This is going to be on my list for a build this summer. Thanks😎
🥰 I love all your projects! Hoping to do some of your plans soon😬…….well, Getting there!! Farmhouse bed is first project! Stepping Lady, Sleeping Umma!
Looks really Good Ana. Reall like the design. just so you know, and I’m not trying to be a know it all. But the screws you used are called Torx head screws. They are great for this type of project, but are also used very commonly in the automotive industry. Thanks again for the video.
Wow Ana that table is really cute. I likely like..... lol... You did a wonderful job on it. Love the colors. I've always told you I'm a all natural girl, do not like to paint my wood. But if it's your thing then paint away. Not I. It just breaks my heart to see painted wood. I think it has to do w/my grandfather being a carpenter & he always threatened me if I painted ANY WOOD! So it's stuck in my mind, Tina if I see or hear that you painted ANY door trim I'm going to whip your butt. But he didn't say butt. He said the a## word. Oh he was my hero. Full blooded Native American. He could do no wrong in my eyes. So what gpa said it was a rule.... lol..... Just a great job on this piece Ana. Thank you, be safe & God bless, Chris from Missouri
@@AnaWhiteDIY oh I have so many stories about that man. Some are so funny too. I'm sure I will tell you more down the road if you don't mind. Keep up the great work Ana, Chris
Hey, open seats to not climb over! I mentioned that on your last picnic table video but I didn’t think I would see these type of changes! Now I am going to have to slam one of these together. ha!
I built the last picnic bench that you made in cedar and did it the exact same colours as this. Absolutely love this one as well....but I already have one now! :)
Yes, you can. The bottom bracket has a 1 1/2 inch slot. A couple of scraps of wood will let you make that slot square so the umbrella will stand upright.
This table arrived well packaged and on time. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxn94T8Mu1iMnsLCMNOI9srXSsLkI4JXKW Like another reviewer advised, I pulled everything out and made sure everything was included (everything was!). I built it alone and it took me about an hour. The color is great and for the price the lift part works well. As others have mentioned, it’s not the smoothest opening/closing, but it works. The screws do show, but I plan to order white sticker covers if that bothers us too much. Really happy with this table! UPDATE: it’s been over a year since we got this coffee table and we still love it! It gets HEAVY use as our dining table, foot rest, and school desk. Over time, the opening and closing mechanism has gotten smoother. I added a new photo with the white screw cover stickers. They blend in perfectly and make it look a little cleaner. 100% recommend!!!
Hope it's going well, here is a metric forum to check out www.ana-white.com/woodworking-projects/forums/designing-and-using-plans/converting-plans-metric www.ana-white.com/community-projects/metric-conversion-em-makes-home
A friend of mine built a table similar to this for our church oh, his looked a bit more complicated... I think I'll go with this style for mine. He had a lot of issues with angles and the wood shrinking and basically had to recut everything, he said he recommended if I built one to let my wood set for a month or so outside before cutting it, so it shrink so the angles would be right... I don't see as much of an issue with that with these plans as the angles don't fit together as tight as his, but definitely a good pointer.
I’m in the middle of building this and noticed something. In the plans for the seat supports the 5-1/2” overhang is on the inside (towards center) but in the video it looks like it is overhanging more towards the outside. Glue is drying now so I guess we’ll find out if this makes a difference.
I'm curious how you made out. I noticed the same thing. I'll be building my seats before I attach the supports. So I make sure they fall in the proper location.
Hi Ana, been following for sometime now, and just finished watching all your videos 😁 but I can't seem to find a video on your workshop bench, the one with the 2 pull out storages. Could you direct me to it. Thanks love your work 👍
I downloaded the plans & picked up lumber & stain this morning. I was going to purchase cedar wood, Dome Hepot had crappy 2by4's available. When I'm done, where can I send Pics???
@AnaWhiteDIY 👌... I'm going to send you a material yield layout. Will show what cuts to make in the wood. I do this a lot with sheet goods. I use graph paper to simulate the sheets & arrange my parts on it to get the easiest cuts
I am deciding if I want to buy a picnic table or build one. I like the octagon table and feel confident I can do the job, but with the price of lumber skyrocketing, not sure if a beginner to wood making should take on a job like this one. Do you have an estimate for how much I would be spending only for lumber, pre covid prices?

I love the simplicity of this build compared to others that seem to be more about flaunting math skills than building a piece of outdoor furniture.
Thanks for the visit, I try to make it as simple as possible so anybody can build it!
I like the contrasting colors Ana have a day love from TEXAS.

This looks like a good project for my misses and me. Thank you and your mister for these videos!

You got this! Plans are easy to follow and there are other builders on here such as myself that would be happy to help! Good luck on your builds!
Just take you time with it. The complicate cuts are the seats. And you can test with scrap lumber or even paper.
Love it!!
Thank you!!
wow a cool one

I would suggest sending the shopping list in the plan link to your local lumber store for the best quote.
On the cut list it shows the legs to be cut at 30 1/8 but on the step 1 picture it shows 31 1/8. Do you know which is correct?
Thank you for catching that, it has been fixed! The diagrams are correct, the cut list now reflects that!

Those gaps on the table top are huge. The boards will shrink as they continue to dry. There's no need to have the gaps that big.

What stain/sealer did you use to preserve the table?
The base is sprayed with an exterior apprpriate paint, and the seat and top are done with an exterior stain and sealant in one.
