This is where it all went wrong. A friend showed this video to me 7 years ago and it ruined music for me forever. CHON brought back my obsession for guitar and creative composition, I’m still practicing this one to this day lol. Love you guys ❤️
@@KYUPB Exactly lol. I don't know either. They're math rock. A genre. Not an exact copy of another band I've never heard of. Many of the bands sound fairly different. Anyways came here to say all those pinkie movements looks scary. I've tried learning these guys songs before and unless you're to an advanced stage of playing I don't recommend it. I consider myself a pretty good player but the stuff these guys do, the awkward chords, the arpeggios, the speed they do it.. nah man. This is next level.
These guys seriously have such good chemistry together. It's very unique. Each are super talented individually, but I think together they're just so much better.
Some musicians have crazy connections like its telepathic. Its even more crazy to see it happen in front of you. You can hate the genre but when that connection happens its like sex dude.
This is what I love about these guys. There's loads of bands that do all these fancy playthrough videos with all these effects and dual screens and all this video editing stuff. While I don't doubt their skill, I just love that CHON just fucking turns on a webcam and makes magic.
A friend of mine introduced me to your song called "Fluffy." I have two jobs and I just got done practicing it. ....it's now 3am and I work at 7. Thanks guys, keep it up with those tasty, tasty chops.
nossa n simion is a good friend of me. now you must be really strong, because i must tell you, that he's jobless. while practicing, first he broke some of his fingers. the worst: he lost 2 and a half fingers. after that his boss quits him.
I just hit 10 years of playing guitar recently. Coming back to this video i realize the hardest part isnt just playing things like this, its CREATING them. Truly inspiring.
marcoaranas Symphony X, Fates Warning, Circus Maximus, Gru, Gordian Knot are prog metal, their music is profoundly rooted in Metal while still being prog. Chon definitely has a lot of prog metal elements to their music, but I wouldn't say they are Metal nor Prog Metal. I would even say that their sound is closer to the likes of Fall Of Troy (albeit no vocals), which, if you know them, you know they aren't Metal in the slightest. My two cents on the matter.
What is so unique about Chon for me is that the music is insanely technical while also being very chill at the same time... seems like that should be a really tough thing to pull off but they do it!
Very very clean, yet very very mean. You guys rip up and down the frets like it's nothing. It's so pleasing and calming. So many different playing styles mashed into a beautiful medley. I show as many people as I can your stuff. I hope others find and take on to this awesomeness. Keep doing what you're doing!
I saw them perform at the AAL show they were completely mind blowing.I loved the fact that I was in the front row hearing it.I would see them 20 more times if I could.
Started listening to CHON and they sound nice to the ears. I kept them playing in my iPod several times. One of the best progressive rock I've heard since Dream Theater! Rock on!
First time I heard these guys was from watching this video sometime back in 2013. I instantly fell in love and now they are one of my favorite bands. I can't believe they will be playing Coachella this year. They've come a long way ❤️
This song has so many memories for me, lots good and some bad. This has become my favorite song of all time at this point due to all the things it reminds me of. I love chon and everything about them.
I really don't know what to say. For anyone who is familiar with playing, you know what you're seeing. You know the level of mastery involved in hitting every note. They've managed to assemble two similar talents together when this talent is 1/1,000,000. This group is incredible
Absolutely love the playing style and writing style of this band. A lot of bands would not be nearly as captivating without a singer/frontman but these guys are just amazing to listen to and watch.
Dude, me and some friends love your musics man, your guys r awesome. All the songs from CHON make me feel in another world, love you guys so much, that I made a tattoo - chon's symbol. Keep it up, I can't do anything to help, because I live to far away, but I'll always listen to your musics, and repass it to everyone. Thx bros, for making my life better with this outstanding songs
Jobe Cullen a goob is a person who thinks that theyre funny or cool but really theyre just awkward and weird. Supposedly Mario(one of the guitarists) called it progressive goob rock at one point.
Nerv 05 I would say its a modern Math Rock band, with lots of prog rock and jazz fusion influence, and some metal bits. But, overall, I feel that they sound like Math rock.
The crazy thing about this is that I never met a guitar play as good as these two homies. How did they meet? "Hey I want to make insanely difficult jazzy, yet vibey music, BUT I I KNOW A GUY." How?!
Crazy that these were posted 10 years ago. Still love this and love y'all. Hope you're well. Would love for y'all to come back but also understand if that. may never happen.
So fucking good, its been a long time since i have really been moved by some new music, this is increadible! And of course, amazing guitar playing all round!
+Zach Niemeier Learn classical first then spring out to jazz and blues, learn all your scales chords and practice on palm muting and even muting with your left hand and then just practice it by tab or sound it out with your ears, because ears are a lot quicker than your eyes. SCALES will help you mostly but yeah, to generate speed and fingers and hand coordination cheers.
Begin is the key word, you just overloaded this dude with work lol. Take lessons from someone who can help you...and knows their shit. You'll have to seek them out cause they're not gonna come to you. Don't sit there and think you can learn these styles on your own from some free youtube lessons. Good teachers cost good money. If you want to know your shit, save money and save time to get good lessons and practice often. It will come together, it just takes some time
teaspoon mario and erick both took lessons for years though. Sure you can definitely sound good just through familiarity with playing, but theres a quantifiable way of understanding melody and rhythm, and a way of understanding how to make those sounds on a guitar. Good teachers just speed up that process of understanding.
Naw they've just both talked about it lol. You can ask them through really any of their social media accounts. All of the undisputed best players know music theory. I dont think theres any skill on earth you getbetter at by knowing less about it.
i wish i could forget all memory of this song so i can listen to it for the first time again
Martyrs lol. This was just so me when i first heard this song
Try listening backwords maybe?
Had us in the first half, not gonna lie
I just did for you!
That's my notion of heaven right there

I'm with you there on that. Just learned a minute of this song and its the cleaning thats so damn hard!
Guys, be yourselves in the instrument. The chon guys never tried to copy anyone, neither should you. Find your own voice. Amen!

@@jayocaine2946 what's FOT?

Svava nice majesty profile pic, you play one yet
+Parker Petty oh yeah I've owned two at separate times at this point.
They're great but lack a few critical things that would make me bond with them.
Svava nice, wish i could afford a music man
I'm in the market for one... what would you say they're missing? What suits you better?
Tried learning the intro: "Easy enough"
Tries learning the next five seconds: "ffs"
t
Dom the intro is quite easy but the was Mario moves his fingers makes no sense Tbf..
Agreed. Makes absolutely no fucking sense. What the actual fuck.
Took me about a week and a half of 4 hours a day grinding to be able to play up to 1:19 full speed with no mistakes.
Vincent Gutierrez but I have no experience playing guitar.
This was filmed in 1974, they are now in there late 40's.
I don't bother doing math either
***** well dude to the left does have a mustache
dude totally looks like it
*in their late 60s
*their. Sorry can't help it
These guys seriously have such good chemistry together. It's very unique. Each are super talented individually, but I think together they're just so much better.
It's like both of them stayed in the time chamber practicing then got out and fused together
They kinda did lol spot on
and together they became " Marrick " lol

Lol at how erick nods his head after the song is over. He's like "yup, that's how that one goes"
They're so good, that up until the harmony part starts it sounds like only one guitar is playing. That takes skill
+Nick Perez Wait, so they're not good once they get to the "harmony part?" The fuck did I just read and why does it have 4 thumbs up?
+Nick Perez if you listen carefullly you can hear both
+iloveyou because when the harmony kicks in they play seperate riffs...making it obviously sound like 2 different guitars lol
+iloveyou He missplaced a comma, "They're so good that, up until the harmony part..."
Vrotdugi Dortigan That is actually a good explanation. Well done.
I always thought that their music was really quantized in the studio but after watching this im not so sure, they're so fucking tight mann
Erick just has that kind of face that looks stoned even when he's sober
Happiest goddamn metal ever. This is sick
This is pretty far from Metal.
Sleeping Duck
It's progressive metal I think. There are different sub-genres of metal you know xD

Wtf?¿ R&B jazz licks and runs in prog metal. That's nasty as fuck. Look up jarius mozee dude is sick
Had never heard of him! his a beast!! thx braw
thats what im thinking. haha this one will be easy to learn. i love that they arent basic with their taste in music
they know jairus mozee by the way. probably why they used those dminished + minor movements
Bayo106 Jarius Mozee is incredible an has those secret chords that nobody knows he makes you feel his chords. Makes you go ugh damn shit!
lol its HOW he uses the chords. theyre mostly simple. but his feel is something else man. he tells a story through his playing!
