    The joints and the plastic sound simply crunchy!!

  • @jean-christophesakouhi3704
    @jean-christophesakouhi3704 9 лет назад +7

    The joints likely utilize the ATBC-PVC, ATBC is a plasticizer commonly used in transformers to make the floppy "rubber" parts everyone hates so much, but depending on the proportion used on the PVC it can have varying levels of stiffness and the PA content is likely the nylon derivative form and is probably being used as a sleeve for the joints so that they don't stick to the point of breakage because ABS has a higher coefficient of friction if I remember correctly, as for being rotocast I couldn't say for sure although its not impossible to rotocast ABS its not very common, it's also possible the body is using PA, and the ABS is elsewhere, but given the price on the figure its not out of the realm of possibility that they used any number of techniques to create a seamless appearance devoid of both molding lines and screw holes, so without dissasembling it or seeing it first hand I couldn't say for sure that any of what I've said is the case or not for sure, but I hope you found it helpful
    Thanks for the review Vangelus!

    I'm not saying that this is not a beautifully made figure.......BUT
    for a figure that I've seen listed for nearly $600,
    it should have both been able to transform and have come with a Fasttrack.

    it looks really cool, and if you have the means, and happen to be a g1 die hard this a great addition. I however will save and wait for the Maketoys release. I am grateful for gen 1. I just prefer the newer figures more.

    From the video it seems like it would remind me of those big vinyl toys when I was a kid. Like the big TMNT figures were the arms and legs would only move up and down. And if I was able to hold one, I am sure I would buy. The material screams early 90's toys, but with fantastic detail and able to pose.
    Thanks for the great video!

  • @ZimMan2
    @ZimMan2 9 лет назад +1

    Sounds like they went for something similar to what Bandai uses on their vinyls, but slightly harder. Believe me, if you've never handled one, Bandai Vinyls are some of the sturdiest toys out there. I've chucked them full force at walls and the wall suffered more paint damage than the toy itself.
    I hope we can see more figures with this style of manufacture in the future, maybe at smaller scales and less insanely expensive.

    I'm not into Transformers anymore, sadly Michael Bay ruined it for me. But I do have to say, that I envy your collection Vangelus. If money weren't an object, I would buy every G1 related figure that you've reviewed, especially the third party entries. You are a blessed individual, Vangelus.

    • @cannonfodder4000
      @cannonfodder4000 9 лет назад +4

      Are you really not a fan anymore just cause of Michael Bay? I find that a foolish reason to leave a franchise

    • @collegerebel
      @collegerebel 9 лет назад +2

      No, actually it's not because of Michael Bay. I just said that to be a smart-ass and because I couldn't come up with anything better at the time. Really, it's because there's too many toys to keep track of. It's because the same characters keep getting remade for each new incarnation/show, so now we have over a dozen Optimus Primes and Megatrons, etc. It's because I got tired of developing an attachment to certain characters, who just end up getting killed off. I don't really expect you to understand me, because even I think my reasons are odd, but my reasoning is that when I would buy a certain transformer, that then got killed off, a small part of me dies with it and then I project that emotion onto the toy, which then seems kind of pointless in my collection. Again, I know this sounds odd. And really, I feel like I've outgrown it. Admittedly, I do still like looking at them when I go to a toy store or walk by a toy aisle at a walmart or kmart. Sometimes I even look back at when the classics line came out in 06, and everything that came out since and I regret not having bought those toys when I had the chance. But like I said, there's just too much to keep track of. I'm not T.J. Omega, to dedicate so much time and energy to this undeniably amazing toyline. I guess I should rephrase my original statement, because I don't really dislike transformers at all. I simply got tired of collecting them. That's all.

  • @IoriYagami288
    @IoriYagami288 9 лет назад +3

    I think I can see why Transformers action figures made by companies other than Hasbro/Takara Tomy like Scorponok here don't transform.
    Not only was it due to the cost of production, but Hasbro/Takara Tomy probably requested the other companies to not make them transform to either avoid competition or fear of losing money. I could be wrong on this.
    I know there's the Optimus pen by Sentinel, but they probably let that happen because it doesn't turn into a truck.

    Having played with Planet X Genesis. I can totally argue support for the use of a softer, lighter material for the even bigger and non-transforming scale in play here. Joy that he is, that boy can barely lift his own arms or support the his mass on his comparatively teeny legs. I still pray for a decent throne of chaos style support structure to take the job off them.

    I feel like it doesn't do enough to justify its price point. If it had a wash to pick out all the great detail, or some other kind of paint I can see it being this expensive, or if it had more articulation and features, but as it is 45000 yen is far too much.

    I feel this toy is nothing more than a Titan class action figure sure it's huge, but IMO the cost doesn't justify anything other than the fact it's made by a company who has super high prices on all their products. You not paying for a toy, your paying for the company name. ;)

    It’s a big figure it’s a great figure I love it except the fact that it’s made out of the same material my child’s bath toys made out of 🤣🤣🤣 and this is a $400 toy it works because of how big the figure is that the bath toy material it’s made out of can easily pick up the joints and it makes it very light and that’s actually kind of smart

    • @youmongrel
      @youmongrel 9 лет назад +1

      It is a ridiculous price, we keep hearing "plastic is more expensive now!" Walk through WalMart these days and many figures - Star Wars, TMNT, and yes Transformers - come in RETARDEDLY LARGE sizes. I don't get why these are being made, a kid couldn't fit more than a couple of these toys in their room! But the point is, they're like $25. Of course there's more build here - but 8x as much? No.

    • @youmongrel
      @youmongrel 9 лет назад +6

      *****
      Actually I buy a TON of 3rd party Transformers (that do/do not transform) so I'm fully aware of the makers garage pricing scale. Whoop whoop they make small scale masterpiece toys, this isn't one. It looks like 12 pieces in all, despite having lovely paint (which I should add all looks perfectly machinable, nothing indicates fine detail human labor requirement to paint). I'm saying, it's an exorbitant price regardless of whose name is on it.
      Put it this way - compare it to Feral Rex by Maketoys - for $100 more you have 5 fully transforming, detailed, fantastically articulated AND combining figures. As big as this? No of course not. As much material? Absolutely so. Engineering and paint work? WAY more.

    • @Worldpeacekid
      @Worldpeacekid 9 лет назад +4

      youmongrel Feral Rex/Predaking also doesn't stand in the same scale as G1 Fortress Maximus and Generations Metroplex, though. Sure, he has more chrome, but Scorponok is far bigger and thus far more material-heavy (and costly) to produce.
      Plus, if he was actually made of heavier materials...either Scorponok would be breaking or anything you displayed him on would be at risk of it. The choice of a softer, lighter vinyl reduces it's weight and prevents problems with weight support.
      Plus, you know, it's already the weight of a _baby_, so giving it diecast and all sorts of other accessories would make it even more expensive and, in the case of the diecast, even less sturdy if done wrong.

    • @youmongrel
      @youmongrel 9 лет назад +1

      I never mentioned diecast. I don't know that Rex even has any, looking down on me gloriously from atop his shelf. And I noted the vast difference in size, pointing out it's the AMOUNT of material I'm weighing the cost against, not how it's spread around. With non-transforming design, you have barely a fraction of the interlocking molds to design and maintain, tolerances to test, sides to paint or ESPECIALLY pieces to assemble (ie., man hours). This piece, big as it is, is essentially the same as those ridiculous 31" Star Wars or Ninja Turtle character on sale for $10 at Wal-Mart right now. The difference between a big manufacturing entity and a startup in no way constitutes a 4000% markup. If it has fans - fabulous! It's nice to see any little guy get the business. I don't agree with OP that this is "lazy" design, it just is what it is - I'm only agreeing that it's egregiously overvalued.

    • @Vangelus
      @Vangelus  9 лет назад +11

      The buyer is the second party. Licensing meaning second party is an incorrect definition that came out of gaming discussion. I used to think that, and got corrected!

    • @Da80sGeek
      @Da80sGeek 9 лет назад +2

      Your definition is when it comes to a legal binding contact. When one party provides a product or service specifically for a second party. As we don't contract for their goods or services we are buyers, the consumer. A second party (licensee) has control over the creation and manufacturing of a product, but the licenser of the product (first party) has input and final say. A third party is not affiliated with the first party in any way.
