my guy!, your content is like having a BMW shop teacher. I didnt know anything about BMW at all. Your channel is giving me that knowledge. Im an Audi guy, i drive an Audi and stuck with them and they have just as many faults and small things that can stop mechanics from fixing them. Through the love for cars we learn, what you learn on your end will help people learn from their side. Dont be discouraged and keep it up. Loving the videos, you say bad quality some times, from my end its not even noticeable
Anyone that has built engines knows your pain brother. That oil separator is very common. VW Audi uses a similar setup. That rubber diaphragm regulates the vacuum in the engine. The cap that goes over it has a tiny hole for fresh air. When that diaphragm cracks, it creates a vacuum leak causing the misfires and won’t allow the PCV system to do its job. I hope the oil pressure issue is something simple like a check valve or something out of position.
Love the videos, just a tip, render the final video in 4k (even if you don't film in 4k), the quality from the bitrate increase it quite noticeable. Also it helps to unlist the video until in fully renders, people might click off the video at first, which is bad for the algorithm
Thanks, i will give it a try with the 4K render, and i did actually upload few hours before release, RUclips said it was full HD but changed when I made it public

lol 1 thing I’ve said are cars hear an know when we ready to replace or tired of there shit long story short back in 2022 of June my 2011 maxima got totaled well 2 months prior before the accident I was talking an looking for Mercedes even going to dealers to checking them out haha once the accident happened I was like my car was not happy at all I was disappointed too cause I put a lot of money in to it within the 2yrs frame before the accident so I was kind bummed out for sometime
I have E90 with N43 engine, and it is a nightmare. I took it to the mechanic with low oil pressure warning, first they replaced the oil pressure control solenoids, then I had to bring it back, then they said the oil pressure sensor is bad, they replaced, then they realized that the timing chain is stretched and hit the plastic timing chain tensioner which broke and then the small plastic fragments clogged the oil pump causing the crankshaft and its bearings to die. After this I will buy electric only. It is exhausting just to think about how many things can go bad in an internal combustion engine. Anyway, the content is good and it made me realize how many tools I would need to fix the engine myself. Thank you for sharing!
For the next episodes, try to publish your videos on 'Unlisted' and after the process is complete, you can change on 'Public' so everyone have the 1080p quality option right away. That's how every RUclipsr with experience does.
You'll win this battle, no doubt! Thanks for sharing all of this with us, looking forward to seeing it fixed and you driving it. Some ideas for another BMW project : an M550D, a B58, a 7 series, an M, an Alpina.
Feel your pain, mate! More of an Alfa guy myself. Have to say owing a bmw is waaaaay less appealing now 😊. That being saif, thank you for these videos.
Id like to see you try working on something 90s japanese, like a 5 or 6th gen civic. see what its like from bmw drivers perspective. they dont break down like bmw but they are also a challenge to work on because of rusted bolts everywhere, getting creative with puting one good part from two used ones from junkyard, driving experience you wouldnt believe but surprisingly similiar the car encourages you to rev higher and go faster than you need to, a very high percentage of slammed, straight piped civic drivers later become bmw drivers
Keep it up man! im quite interested with this, since I have been struggling with N54 with pretty much the same misfire condition and nothing has helped so far, including injectors, coils, plugs, valve carbon cleaning, vanos cleaning etc. i have had more problems with N-engine in a month, than 2 M57:s in past 6 years😂

Did you remember to code the new injectors to the ecu? Also if theres any problems with the nox system/nox sensor it can make the engine missfire. If you havent checked out yet bimmerprofs has a lot of info on these engines and on the nox system. Really enjoyable video as always. It was really sad seeing the issues unfold though. When you said low oil pressure I really felt for you. The balancing shafts really do help keep that engine smooth and they remove a lot of vibration and harshness. It’d be a shame if you have to remove them as your modification of the new oil pump to work with the balancing shafts was a really good idea. You’ll know more once you’re back in there of course. Did you check the engine was still in time when you replaced the cam cover?
I had the same issue as you described in the video with the missfire, i read on some forum that only NGK spark plugs were recommended, even Bosch plugs which BWM supplies are not good on these N43 engines, tried replacing injectors, did not help, new plugs nope still not, tried again with NGK plugs, solved the issue
A nice project car would be an E91 M57 Manual (or Auto) and if you find one which is M Sport even better. You have pretty much everything in such a configuration (power, handling, practicality, control, fuel economy). M57 is a great engine if it’s well maintained, a proper torque 500Nm and around 230hp depending on year. I’ve bought one E91 M57 Manual (330d 2005) a non-runner. After a bit of digging, cylinder 1 has no compression at all, whilst all the other cylinders have very low compression 4-5bars only. I suspect the timing chain has jumped and lead to an interference on cylinder 1 and poor compression for the rest.
as N43 118i owner i thank you so much for this content, i was hoping you would like this engine but there is no hope anymore i guess. I had problems with engine oil pressure too, chain guide fell apart and block oil schnorchel. Then after mechanic replaced both chains, oil pump goes bad while driving on test drive - oil pump main shaft had striped off teeth, i dont know what happen so i coulnt blame mechanic..bought new oil pump for 1000€, thanks for test if injector leaking i will do that for sure. Too bad market with injectors for this engine are very bad no new, only refurbished, leaking, not working injectors so its very hard to get properly working index9 (latest). Maybe you can show us what is high pressure dropping due t leaking injector and how it look after replacing. thank you so much for this N43 content and teaching smth new! im sorry for the oil pump even if i dont understand how can balacing shafts affect oil pressure?
I suspect the balancing shafts because the 2 shafts has small bearing that works same like crankshaft bearings, and you see the condition of the crankshaft bearings, so I am guessing balancing shaft bearings are shot😊 aswell as that’s the only thing that we didn’t check on the rebuild
HI . I have a BMW 318 with n43. Exact same story, I completely rebuilt the engine then exactly the same problem when the oil reached high temperatures boom... low pressure error. exactly like you, eliminating possible problems with the oil valve pressure sensor etc... nothing, always the same error, then as a last solution I completely replaced the entire oil pump with a used one... nothing to do, same problem... For me it remained a mystery. I managed to fix the problem by simply increasing the engine rpm at idle with ISTA because when it was very hot the engine even dropped below 600 rpm, I raised the rpm up to 700 rpm and since then the error has never returned and the engine runs well . The problem with this engine is that it runs at very high temperatures... oil reached 118 -120 degrees water at 117 degrees all the fault of the BMW engineers forced by the Euro 5 pollution standards to make it run at these temperatures. .. I'm very curious if you can find another solution! I wasted months studying everything down to the smallest detail, I couldn't find anything else. I wish you better.
no but I changed 2 pressure sensors. It is impossible to have wrong values . When it is really hot at what rpm the engine run?, because the manual says it should run at 700 rpm but it runs below 600. and when I increased the rpm to 700 the error it disappeared... I know it's frustrating@@EMSGARAGEE61
Well, the car is great, but when BMW started the N engine line quality when down massively. 6 cilinders ara better but also with there issues. I think the best way is to stick with original parts, clean the injectors and check the high pressure fuel pump.
