- The 'Z' reverse, a unique practice in DHR, in which the train goes forward, changes line, reverses and moves forward in a 'Z' format in order to gain altitude in difficult terrain of the Himalayan foothill. This series of 'Z' reverse on the New Jalpaiguri - Darjeeling line are found near Tindharia, West Bengal. Train is 52541/New Jalpaiguri - Darjeeling (Toy Train) Passenger.

Z revesals at D.H.R. is not made to climb terran but there is a story that when Franklin Prestige made the tracks he could not climb the train by loops,at last when he was in tension his wife told ,If you can't go up come back and go,this was the theory when Z revesals came into existence!
This Z revesals which is called Ziz-Zag crossing of D.H.R. is made by engineer Franklin Prestige,there is a story of making Zrevesals.There are Six Zrevesals at D.H.R. section between Ghayabari to Rangtong station and 4 loops.

There is no rail-gate entire the 88kms tracks of the D.H.R. Section and pointsmen,flagmen and guard watches and stops the vehicles,People keep there vehicles in the track where there is road level,Indian railways will have to upgrade and help D.H.R. for better operating in it !
