Everyone pointing out AB grabbing the pen, but I just wanna call out the fact that Eric actually noticed in the Hilary Duff episode that RoboBitch Abed was "projecting cycles" while scanning the women in the room, which leads directly to the chart reveal in this episode and the plot point of Troy realizing what might be happening with Chang/Shirley... It's the little things, ya know?
Troy doesn't know about Shirley and Chang because he got out. His memory was also wiped by the government, so he also doesn't remember Halloween. The reason he knows is because Chang left him a voicemail right after he hooked up with Shirley. That was the after credits scene for the episode.
As others are saying, you can see the pen get taken. but beyond that the episode reminds you about Annie's Boobs. When Britta says they shouldn't search Abed, they mention everything from the Chicken Finger Episode, and Tory says "He freed my monkey."
I never noticed that they said that to remind the audience of the monkey. Clever and very natural. Too bad the reactors somehow completely forgot about its existence (just like they already forgot what happened on Halloween)
@@Bloodtoxx In the full context of the quote it's more conveying how you should Not discount things just because they're improbable. Unlikely things do happen, but the impossible, obviously, doesn't. It doesn't mean any possible explanation is true
@@Bloodtoxx i assumed it was a misquote and he actually said “all which is possible” but google says that’s the quote. weird. i’m probably missing context.
One of my favourite episodes of the whole show! Perfectly balancing character & humour. Its proof to all writers that if you have strongly written characters and cast the right performers then an entire episode of just people stood talking in a room can be riveting.
Troy got out, but he went back in to turn the A/C down, getting infected in the process. He knows about Chang and Shirley because Chang left him a voicemail about it. "Why did he call me???" - Troy
THANK YOU! For the longest I never understood why Troy had a pillow in his backpack. It was to create the illusion that he was carrying a bunch of books when he really wasn’t. Jeff respected Troy’s ability to put one over on people making them think he was smarter than he actually was.
I always assumed it was so that he could sit down wearing the bag and always have a pillow wherever he goes. Having a bag with things for school doesn't make you look smart.
Having you guys watch B99 and Community at the same time is amazing cause it’s like a double treat of both of my favourite comedies every week! Cant wait for you to get further into this show!
I see others have mentioned this but at the beginning of the episode you can see the monkey hand take the pen.this kind of detail and rewatchabiliary is one of the reasons this show os so beloved
I've been waiting so long for them to watch this episode. One of my absolute favorite episodes to date. Excited for them to watch Remedial Chaos Theory next season
This is my favourite episode!! There is nothing like having our main characters in a room with all their chemistry!! Love it! And I love the reveal of AB. Such brilliant writing!
Testament to the writing in this episode: I had NEVER seen this show and stumbled upon this episode with no context. I understood the character dynamics immediately, it was funny, creative and a great introduction to how ridiculous things get. I was instantly obsessed.
This is absolutely a top 10 episode of Community for me. And let’s be honest no matter how old you are you would want to hangout in a blanket fort that big and that awesome.
I already commented earlier but I should point out that the bottle episode was necessary because Dan Harmon blew most of the season 2 budget on Abba songs in Epidemiology.
I just caught the pen being taken on my rewatch and it is the monkey, not Abed, his hands are clearly by his sides, but you can see the pen magically lift from the table and make out little grayish black hands, time stamp sound 41 seconds in.
When Jeff goes crazy and starts ripping up the carpet, he’s doing it right in front of the A/C vent (where the pen is). I’ve seen this episode multiple times but just realized how great that shot/scene is by showing the vent.
Since it's getting ever closer, I hope you guys find a way to watch episode 14 of this season. It's a really good episode and there are references back to it in later episodes.
I was so confused when it was taken out of the streaming. I had to go find it after it came up MANY seasons later. Thankfully it wasn't hard to torrent. So sad that they took it out of rotation, particularly when it handled the iffy material so consciously and carefully.
As someone who is engaged to an eye doctor, Eric for the love of god don’t use visine!!! Get artificial tears OTC at a pharmacy store instead. Visine will temporarily make things better but over time it’ll keep your eyes red. Artificial tears like Systane aren’t harmful you can keep dowsing your eyes if that’s what you dig. Better alternative if you hate red eye is to use Lumify, it clears it up quick and isn’t harmful like Visine. Visine constricts the blood vessels in your eye to get rid of the redness, but by doing so your eyes won’t get proper bloodflow so over time it’ll make things worse. If you use it too often those blood vessels could enlarge making your eyes look red all the time. Artificial tears are like water, it’ll just wash away any irritants of the eye and drain through your puncta and lacrimal glands. Thank you for attending my Ted talk.
Rewatch the episode and at around 0:41 in the scene when troy said "i want to lick it" you can actualy see the arm of the monkey stealing the pen from the table.
Okay, so I've been watching these guys for years now, but I cannot for the life of me remember what Eric's superpower Is it his ability to instantly know the exact smell of something?
I'm new to blind wave since a couple of months, so this is just a guess, but considering the context of the conversation & having heard about people being able to do this before, I'm pretty sure Eric is able to smell when a woman is ovulating. :^)
You have to look closely. And it helps to watch it at slow speed. When Craig is telling them about the puppy expo, you can see Annie's Bewbs reach up from behind the table and grab the pen.
Just so you know Eric, Fanny packs have been in style for like the past few years now. But you gotta wear it like a sling and it has to be a certain one
I think the quote you're thinking is more like "once you've ruled out the impossible, whatever remains however improbably it may be, must be the truth", something closer to that. In that sense, this episode doesn't really follow that philosphy, they went with the most comforting explanation
Fun fact about this episode, according to Dan Harmon on the DVD commentary, the woman Jeff is speaking to on the phone doesn't exist! This "Gwynnifer" he's talking about is a code. For what, you may ask? For Britta. Gwynnifer is his codeword for adult-fun-time with Britta.
Eric just accepting that Calvin was randomly saying "Annie's Boobs" then finally realizing that's name of the monkey was hilarious LMAO
love how he almost cracks up whilst saying "what?" to calvin after he said it the first time :D
Probably thinking "what the fuck did he just say?" xD
If you look closely in the beginning of the episode, you can see AB grab the pen from the table
It’s when Troy says he wants to lick the puppy.
Yeah that one small detail is one of the reasons I love the show
Came here to say this!
Go back to the cold open and pay attention
WOW WTF

My favorite episodes in the show are the ones where they spend most of the time just arguing and airing out their grievances with each other
This and Paradigms are two of my favourites ever
basic email security is another great one like this too!!
Now I'll just imagine that Calvin, throughout the day, constantly randomly yells out "Annie's boobs!"
🤣🤣🤣

The boy who cried Annie's Boobs.

The Doyle quote is “When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”
Yes! THAT is the quote!!
Which is bullshit. Eliminating all that is impossible still leaves much that is possible. So every possible outcome is truth?

There’s so much irony in them talking about how it’s unlikely no one would notice AB taking the pen when it happens on screen and no one notices 😂

2:24 did that Fanny pack scene in “Everything Everywhere All at once” mean nothing to you eric
When the Dean comes in with the puppy and Troy says “I want to lick it” you can see in that shot at the corner of the table that AB takes the pen
Troy's line after he took off Pierce's cast was great lmao

Dear lord I can't express how much I love Annie. Alison Brie just kills me every episode.
The callback ton this episode is epic.
Also, when Britta points out Jeff is not wearing his Beetlejuice striped underwear, that is the second time someone says "Beetlejuice".
Also Abed picks up another data point about Jeff and Britta.
Lord of the flies for cool people
Megan Ganz wrote this episode. She also wrote some great episodes of It’s Always Sunny
Annie's reaction when she realized WHY Abed was feeding her chocolate is top tier!
