The best part of The Duncan Principle is that Abed being an outlier doens't mean squat for the validity of his study. Every psychological study has at least one subject that doesn't really follow expectations, that's what outliers are. Instead of recognizing this, he just becomes the perfect test subject of his own experiment
All Abed (and Troy) did was prove that certain factors, like believing that you're helping a friend by continuing to wait, has a substantial impact on how long people are willing wait.

@@oliverse404 Basically his exit moment if we're being honest. He doesn't appear the rest of the episode until the group shot in the final scene where he has like one throw-away line toward Jeff and Britta.

The show really felt his absence when he wasn't a recurring side character. Brilliant antagonist at times too, like Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas.

Yeah, Greendale staff are either incompetent (Chang), actually competent but have a niche specialization (Who is the boss prof) or competent but messed up (Kane, Slater, Duncan)
He just doesn't apply any of his knowledge to himself.
The way Chang asked what is this, before hitting him in the face is just top tier comedy

My fondness for John Oliver is what got me watching Community, and it ended up being one of my favorite comedy shows of all-time.
The way he delivers the "I'm angry" in the Annie scene may be one of my favourite comedic moments ever

So is Duncan an atheist or not? Did he become one during his long absence? Or does it depend on his level of inebriation?
The atheist rant line happens later in the show, could be he lost his faith. Or it could just be a cultural language thing, lots of atheists in majority theist countries use religious terms that they picked up through being surrounded by it. Though the rants would make sense if he was in his “angry atheist” phase that lots of new atheists go through when they deconvert.
