Not that hard. Chickens are actually pretty snuggly. I used to babysit for a family whose next door neighbors had chickens (in Chicago proper no less) and the 9 yr old girl and I liked took go next door and she would just run after the chickens and catch them. I sometimes picked them up too. Once you're holding a chicken comfortably, it relaxes in your arms and you can hold and pet it for ages.

At first I thought this man bred black chicken to eat but they're literally his children. What a guy.
I had an ordinary rooster as a pet when I was 8-9. He used to wake me up in the mornings by sneaking into my room and fekking screamed his feathers off while standing proudly on the pillow I slept on 😑 he will then see me off to school by walking me to the end of the street, and around 3 p.m always greeted me at the same spot. We would play catch by me running off home and him acting like a predator chasing me. At home I'd lift him up to my arms and kiss him. That was our daily ritual.
He was a bulky rooster, had silky white and golden feathers, stern look, but he was gentle and neat. We never saw his drops around our yard. I potty trained him 😁 not really lol but we loved him for being that clean, thus he was allowed anytime in the house. At 7 pm he would already be on a tree or in his small house asleep.
Then a new neighbor moved in a few house down. One day a month after, Goomeem didn't greet me from school. I thought maybe he was checking out the hens around the other side of the neighborhood. So I got home, jumped on my bike and rode around. He was nowhere.
A couple of days went by without him, I started feeling sick to my stomach every morning I wake up.. knowing he's gone.
1 weekend I overheard the new neighbor chatting with another neighbor.. about a fat wild rooster they found and caught.. and cooked. I will never forget that day and how I felt. I hate them to this day.
