- Sissel Kyrkjebø performing "In Dreams" by Roy Orbison at a TV-show from Gothenburg, Sweden in August 2016. "In Dreams" is a song written and sung by Roy Orbison on his 1963 album In Dreams. It was released as a single in February 1963 and it peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 charts at number 7.
Sissel, the international singing sensation and national treasure of Norway, is established as one of the world’s leading crossover sopranos. Her angelic and powerful voice has made Sissel a national institution and she has sung all over the world, selling over ten million solo albums. She has contributed haunting vocal tracks for the soundtrack to Titanic and The Lord of the Rings, and has been performing duets with singers like Charles Aznavour, Andrea Bocelli, Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, Mario Frangoulis, Josh Groban, Brian May, Neil Sedaka, Bryn Terfel and Russell Watson. In 2005, she was knighted by the King of Norway, as the youngest ever to receive this honour. And in 2006, her album 'The Spirit of the Season' with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir went to number-one on the Billboard Classical Charts, and received a Grammy nomination. A very remarkable voice that only comes once in our lifetime.

I do that ALL THE TIME!
I give people I know the links to her songs. I tell people but am only greeted by blank looks and no words. Sadly, many people want to be entertained and do not wish to work, which is what you have to do to listen and understand when Sissel sings, as it is with my favourite singer Roy Orbison or anyone else in that sphere. I have silence when I give people links to my own songs. Best of luck with all the hard work you do.
I totally agree and encourage reactors to continue to share her performances. We MUST share our lovely Sissel. So much talent in one soul. She continues to amaze.
it is hard to believe that a singer as talented, beautiful, and adorable as Sissel would even need any publicity....but if she does, how sad our world is. to me, Sissel has become the standard by which I measure all other female singers, thus surpassing even Karen Carpenter in this regard. and this is aside from the fact that i have totally fallen in love with Sissel...and what man wouldn't, given what a perfect angel that she so obviously is?
One of the greatest un-known singers in the world. She sounds good singing anything. The world is missing out on her voice.

Some evenings are my Sissel evenings. I sit in my chair and listen to her sing until bedtime. She brings pleasure to me when I.hear her sing.

She IS incredible, no doubt about that! I've been listening to her for 30 years but never heard this rendition. And she has the ALTO range to pull this off with that low, hauntingly beautiful side of her voice as well. Not many Soprano's can get down this low in range. You'll notice this on display when she hums the opening of Titanic. NO one could pull that off like Sissel.
Then you haven't seen the young Anita Ekberg or heard Karen Carpenter.
She sings this so beautifully! Her range is 4+ octaves - like Roy Orbison, who wrote tge song. How we miss him!
Carol and I have been fans for years. Sissel's music never gets old, we never get tired of it. She has a voice that will be enjoyed and remembered for many years to come. Always on the look out for a new "performance".
Phenomenal! A soprano who can sing a whole song as low as that, just so she can hit that high note at the end! Someone like this should be vastly better known than some of the talent-free "performers" who are household names.

I agree. I can't quite come to terms with singers who are vastly more famous than Siss but can't sing her range on the keyboard. And can't hit a note dead middle. And yell the upper register.
Her range is absolutely incredible and she hasn't lost a step through the years. And so earthy and beautiful both inside & out. A couple of years ago the Mormon Tabernacle paid tribute to her with a standing ovation and that's the only time I ever saw her lose it.

I don't think she has Sissel's range. she IS incredible and I am so happy that I found her years ago.
From the first moment & I heard her sing & saw her beautiful face & wonderful personality, she was my favorite singer of all time. It's just terrible I never heard of her until last year. She is the best!

Very few people can cover Roy's songs, this one in particular due to the power and range needed. Invariably the best covers are by female singers who have Roy's range in the higher scales! This is about the best cover I've heard of this song, especially as it's live. A handicap you have of course, is that few people can pronounce your last name!

A Roy Orbison classic, with a great cover by Tom Jones in the 1960s, a wonderful song, but Sissel's version is truly wonderful. What a fabulous singer she is.

Ok, we all no that Sissel is an incredibly Beautiful Woman, with an Incredibly Beautiful voice. But the way she says together in this song just tickles the liven daylights out of me. And I have several albums of Roy Orbison's, So it also tickles the liven daylights out of me to hear her sing this song. "In Dreams" is my favourite Roy Orbison tune and one of my all-time favourites as well. This song is almost impossible to cover, and this cover by Sissel is the best I have heard. Bravo !!

She puts her own expressive feelings behind the words of the song she obviously personally loves thereby enhancing the enjoyment of it. Most singers with good to great voices haven't learned that or simply feel their voice alone is all that matters.

I was supprised to hear how well Sissel hit the essence of the sing, the emotional affect in it. This was one of my favorites of Roy Orbison back then and still is. I know the song word by word because I played it so many times in my youth. Never thought someone could match his version, but Sissel does it here live - amazingly. I like both versions equally and I have become a fan of both performers. I love Sissels voice and stage presence that's why I youtube her more than I would play her studio recordings.

Another beautiful amazing song and voice
Since I first heard her voice several months ago I have watched every video I can find. From her teen years through the present, she has such a captivating voice and presence, a beauty and grace, and a fun sense of humor. This is by far my favorite. She has always been beautiful but I see her as radiant, her voice full, and although the words are sad...she seems extremely happy and at ease with life. I start my day with this video. Thanks for the upload.

This singer has re-educated me, a music snob, and opened me up to all sorts of song. She is not a snob nor a diva (thank goodness). I was fortunate to meet with her recently and we chatted easily. She was so gracious, easy to be with, yet has a powerful presence. I'll be sorry if and when she stops singing.

watching her videos I have to remember they are live, not studio. Few singers can do half as good job live as she does. When you hear many live, you can tell they need a studio to work on their singing. Something this lady does not need
