- Two pilots who are Tech alumni are honored during a timeout of the Georgia Tech and Miami game on October 28, 2006 for their service to their country. These two pilots performed the flyover prior to kickoff.
Two additional notes:
1. The music is a cover of the Phil Collins song "In the Air Tonight" by the band Nonpoint.
2. Everyone go easy on Wes Durham for accidentally identifying the aircraft as an F-16. It is honest mistake. Wes is an expert on football, not aviation.

i was there for that game and sat at the top of the enzone seats. i wasn't expecting a fly over so it caught me off guard. believe me, they were LOUD. i am a miami fan and even though we lost i gotta hand it to you georgia tech fans. you guys are truely a class act. i wish more fans were like you guys. and i will be sure to be back up there this year. good luck this season, just don't beat us again.
Regulations say the planes have to be above 1000ft. However, sometimes they do it at 1000ft above sea level, which is not always 1000ft above the current ground.
Close... but actually regulations say that over a densely populated area, you must maintain 1000 ft over the closest/tallest structure and a 2000 ft horizontal distance. These pilots can fly as low as they want because the FAA grants special clearance/exceptions for events like this.
i want to fly an f 18 more than anything and im joining air cadets in september and i have 20/20, im smart i would say ,i love how a jet works and im in decent shape lmao but i still have a little bit of time ,im taking flying lessons all summer on weekends also.
very very very nice videos TOV TODA
because airshows are not over residential areas, they're over these big open areas called airports. if theres a problem with the plane, or a flight error, theres a better chance of correcting the problem at 1000 ft than 500, which is pretty damn important when your flying over a 100000 people in a stadium, and peoples homes.
I ran many laps around that football field and graduated from Tech in 1978. No old jokes please...I'm still flying airplanes!
how cool is that!
@f22cool yea tell me more about g force? i take lvl 3 calculus in new zealand which is the highest maths lvl in high school here. id be lying if i said i was doing great, im just trying to keep up.
i think the nz air force selection process is the same as in the US, but the thing i hate is nz doesnt have fighter planes.
They should have a Raptor do a power loop! That would get some attention...
I've seen the Blues fly over a graduation at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. That wasn't over water or a runway. Flyovers at stadiums are meant to honor our military, not for a reason for the Navy to shoot down our Marines. That would just be silly. These pilots are part of the Federal Government, I think the FAA would authorize them to do this.
i wanna be an airforce pilot soo bad! is it hard to become 1? do you have to be like a genius or really smart?
Yo I was at that game also and yes those jets where flying super low. I agree GT fans are a class act can't say the same about UF or FSU though.
That is cool..
Oh man, I bet when the ppl saw those F-18s, they were like what the hell is going on
awsome as
Which MCAS?
Why would the navy clip their wings? The Blue Angels fly at less than 1000ft at all their air shows and fly-bys. These are military aviators, they work for the federal government. I think their flight plan is authorized in this case.
W/E, The Navy would never fight our own Marines. They are part of the same team.
Ha, I noticed it too.
Why in usa have jets flyby in sport events? Is it something to do with tradition? In europe in sports events especialy Soccer we dont
They fly by right after the last words of our National Anthem...which of course references America's history of freedom through military defense. Military fighter jets flyby to remind everyone that regardless of what every other country on Earth thinks of the United States, we will defend our freedoms...
USMC
Semper Fidelis
if i didnt have asthma... i would work as hard as i could to fly
love this vid lol
GO TECH....
How much? I mean how much do you wanna bet?
F-18 not F-16.
whoa. wait, they can just fly whereever they like?
phil collins, thought so
yea, faux pas on the name of the jet, however he recouped the blunder by refering to the boys as Aviators...nice. Can't wait for the 2007 season!
@franksyfull Before American was a country, when the British sent troops to try to keep the colonists under their control...
If you hate soccer, your not a sports fan.
LOL they can't even tell the difference between the F-16 and the F-18? LOLOLOLOLOL
I prefer Tomcat over Hornet anytime!
Sting 'em!
XD lol
You need to be resonably smart go to ur local recrument centre and ask how
F-18 Hornet usaf fly-by
well that was a colossal waste of time ...
Philippines need F-18s or F-16s badly, we do not have a single fighter jet in our air force. cough cough... We only have those stupid OV-10 Broncos that even those WWII P-51D Mustangs can shoot down!
