That's cool. What'd he fly during the war ? My late paternal grandfather (a WW1 vet) helped build wing spars for P47 Thunderbolts, while his son (my Late Father) went off to serve in WWII with both of his brothers. My dad became a tech in the Army Air Corps, and did maintenance/calibration on various avionics, and also the (then) top secret Norden Bomb Sight. He also worked on planes that were staging Over The Hump to support Chennault's Flying Tigers.
My Great Uncle was a fighter pilot in Europe during WWII. He said flying the P-47 was like driving a truck. In 1944 he moved to the P-51. He said that was like driving a sports car.
When I was a kid I was home on Memorial Day doing something in the yard when two A-10 Thunderbolts went screaming overhead on their way to a parade fly-by. They weren't even flying that fast but holy crap!! What an awesome, humbling, spirit-lifting, scary-ass feeling of pride all at the same time when those planes went by. There's nothing like it 🇺🇸❤️
Without our friends on the ground, we wouldn't have a base to go home to. We also need dozens of hard working people to provide the fuel, the munitions, the maintenance. Without all of you, we are grounded.

That was one of the two solo pilots... the Blues main formation does not separate to perform the single and opposed movements. The two solo pilots fill the time while the main formation sets up for their next maneuver... all perfectly timed.
I was fishing in a remote gorge in NC when two F-18s came up the river flying 100 off the deck. When the first one came through I thought it was an earthquake or something so I looked up at the cliffs to see if rocks were shaking or falling. That’s when I saw the second jet fly by and realized what it was. If those pilots spotted me they had to be laughing their butts off. It scared my dogs so bad it took the rest of the day to find them. I’ve seen some interesting things fishing rivers but that’s one of my coolest fishing stories.
@@wasidanatsali6374 Great story! I had a not too dissimilar thing happen. I used to live on a knob, at the end of a long valley, in a cabin built in the early 1800's. The Air National Guard used to do mock bomobing runs, on a dam, at the other end if the valley (some 20 miles down). Their return flight path was my valley. They flew so low (maybe 150' off the ground at my end) that the concussive force pushed the valley facing wall in enough to knock my TV off it's stand, (about 8"). Didnt break it. Was back in the 70's. Big CRT could handle it. The surprising thing was, the walls were 18" thick and covered with old slate shingles outside. Nothing was damaged.
It scares you because you can't hear them approaching. They are flying at supersonic speed, which means they actually beat the sound of their own engines to the stadium, then suddenly the noise explodes.
@@frez777 not standing is the most USA thing you can do. The ability to not stand for the national anthem, to be hyper critical of the establishment, and even burn your own nation’s flag, without penalty, is real freedom; soldiers fought and died for that amount of freedom and that’s what I love about my country. Anyone who says you should be arrested for not standing or burning the flag, or that either is equivalent to spitting on troops, is speaking purely out of emotion and doesn’t truly understand what the USA is supposed to represent. @DeeTofa LOLLL what does a game have to do with patriotism? Americans bring up that word for almost everything. As a Navy veteran, it sickens me every time I read something like this.
My uncle was an ace in WW2. They did a missing man flyover at his interment ceremony. It was powerful and awesome.
How cool. Mad respect.
Yikes. Internment. For an air ace. 😣
My Great Uncle was a fighter pilot in Europe during WWII. He said flying the P-47 was like driving a truck. In 1944 he moved to the P-51. He said that was like driving a sports car.
