Iirc, a long time ago when Baylor was a really bad program (I think it was Baylor), they lost a game when they fumbled a handoff instead of kneeling for the win and the other team recovered, and then vs the same team the next year in the same situation, they went for the kneel but botched the snap, the other team recovered and Baylor still lost the game. 🤣

All true and nice prediction, except for the "real quick" part. Those two words are time stamped in this era. In a few years everyone will know American public school teachers were told to push those two words, or "really quickly," on their students. Or else.
Why was this pushed? Because the vast majority of America's kids in the last few years bound for the factory or the cubicles, and not much thinking going on thereat. So the edict "Do task a little bit faster" sent down from on high, sent from those who breed us like cattle.
Think I'm wrong? Imagine a nurse telling a brain surgeon: "Real quick, Doc, cut into this patient's head." Do you want your brain surgeon to speed things up?
A coworker friend of mine heard this, and he retold the story of a friend of his requesting to "Real quick, say grace." Like God has other things to do besides listen to your prayers. "Let's go," said the Supreme Being. "We're loosing daylight."
And I know it's spelled "losing" but I prefer the internet (mis)spelling.

Yup. It ruins the mental rhythm of the offense and breaks up the drill - and means you can sub in a fresh defender or two if the opposing team does a last second swap. Sometimes it's petty and hopeless, sometimes you have a chance to capitalize on a mental mistake.... like Tech did.

THIS IS NOT MARIO'S FIRST TIME:
    (2018)
With Oregon leading 31-28 at home and the ball near midfield, Cristobal could have had Herbert kneel to run the clock down to 16 or fewer seconds before punting. (Stanford had one timeout left.)
Instead, he had CJ Verdell run on 2nd-and-2. The call looked entirely reasonable at the moment, but the redshirt freshman fumbled. Stanford took possession with 51 seconds left and drove to the tying field goal as time expired. The Cardinal won 38-31 in overtime on Colby Parkinson’s juggling touchdown catch and Alameen Murphy’s interception.

So many times, all a qb has to do is take a knee, to run the clock out; so stupid, and see it often; many years ago, in the nfl giants lost a game, with a lead and :30 seconds to phila, when all the qb had to do was take a knee; instead, handed off, lead to fumble on the same play, and disaster. Coach has to pay for this.

    • @rodhayes7777

@@4736dmr Yes, I understand. But give Georgia Tech credit. They can be a sleeping giant. A powerhouse back in the 1950s and 1960s with Bobby Dodd, Georgia Tech can surprise teams even now and then.
Are they in the same category with Frank Beamer's Virginia Tech? I don't think so. They've never had sustainable success over a stretch of seasons.

I like the point you made about how Miami should have never been in that position. Ultimately, a win or loss is the summation of an entire game, not just a single moment that changes the direction of that game.

I roll my eyes every time a fan tries to pin down a loss to *one* play (or a coach in this case; Cristobal petitioned the NCAA after this game, whining about the called fumble). Miami had _multiple_ chances to put this game away, but instead allowed GT to keep it close until a couple missteps were all it took for GT to steal one on the road.
