Great video as usual Kenny. I would like to add to your tutorial that the default " Pause" function shortcut key already seems to exists, it's "ENTER" So "SPACEBAR" to stop and return to last position and "ENTER" to pause and of course "Home or W" key to return to beginning of project. Thanks for all your amazing tutorials
One more thing: After every Kenny Gioia video, I have to update my Reaper configuration, saving it, so that I never lose the new configurations with all the amazing things I learned from his videos. Way to go Kenny! I advise everyone to do the same! Peace. Tom.
How the heck does he do it? I'm in the process of recording a 375 page book, and have been wanting this feature every day. So of course Kenny reads my mind and provides the answer.
Kenny, once again you have saved the day! Such a simple thing to make mixing life so much easier. But I intend to use it all the time for mixing and not just for video. Thank you so much for making your videos. They are helping so many people!
Nice job. One thing you did in this video that I really appreciate. Is you used your words. You didn’t say click this or go here. You used specific words so that everybody knew where you were going and what you were doing. Keep it up! 5:43
hey kenny great tutorial, as always. I would like to ask you, this not the same as the "pause" you do with the enter key?? I understand that now you have the option in the action list, but im confused.
Out of curiosity, what's the difference between the new "play/stop (move edit cursor on stop)" action and the old 'play/pause' action, which would appear to do the same thing? I just have 'play/pause' set to trigger with the ENTER button, and regular play/stop behavior triggered by the spacebar.
Hey Kenny a really big thanks to your reaper tutorial vids. It’s a big help as I’ve started out editing in reaper. Just a suggestion, if you could describe what’s happening on the video. Like, “as I click the button from the file section...” it’s for the blind people like me. I mean it would be great if we know what you’re clicking or selecting by audio description. Nevertheless, awesome channel 🙂
Hello! Sorry, I'm writing with the help of a translator. Thank you for the wonderful lessons on learning the Reaper program. My question is the following. I work a lot with drums, and when converting to midi, errors occur. In cubase, there is an edit in place option. Opening the midi item, right under audio, I do the editing very quickly. Also, there is a vertical and horizontal cursor, which greatly facilitates the work. Unfortunately, I didn't find this option in the reaper. If this option is available, please show me where to look for it. Thank you in advance! Sincerely yours!
I feel like I need an ELI5 here. How is this action (Play/stop (move edit cursor on stop) different from Play/pause? Play/pause does the same thing, as far as I can tell - stops play and puts the cursor at the stop point. What am I missing? What's new about this action?
I think REAPER has had "Transport: play/pause" action for quite a long time which is the same, or not? And, honestly I don't remember if I customized it or not, I have it already on Ctrl-Space... so this has been available already; or is there a difference between this play/pause and the new action?
Hi, I have learned a lot from you. Thank you for that. I have a mac and a window. I do some projects with mac and some with Window. Is it possible to have a project in mac and at the same time the same copy in Window?
Anybody have a script you could bind to a toolbar button to toggle between the two behaviors. So if you want the space bar to go back to the start, it's one way, then if you press the tool bar button, it switches and now hitting the spacebar stops the cursor at the spot you hit it. I know you can assign two different shortcuts, but sometimes it would be easier to just quickly change the behavior of the spacebar, rather than having to remember two different shortcuts.
What if I just want to see where I pressed stop, instead of the cursor being in the stop position? Similar behavior to Protools. It seems more useful to me, in an editing situation, for example.
i have a question i come from studio one! and i want to make reaper become my main daw, but i don't know if there is a way to copy a plugin from one track to several tracks, in studio one you just click and drag to the other tracks, i see that you can do that in reaper but one by one, i would like to know if i can copy that plugin with those settings to several tracks at the same time.
This is great. I usually use the "Enter" key on the number keypad as mine is/should be set to Transport: Play/Pause, which brings the cursor to the location of the playback anyway, but this does solve a few things.
Can you explain how this is better than pause? I was wondering about the difference, as I have been using pause for this same thing. Happy to switch if there is value in it.
@@FriendlyNeighborhoodNitpicker You're not alone here, I don't understand the difference either, and would greatly appreciate an explanation of the benefits of this action .
Hi Kenny, Thanks for all the awesome videos. In trying to get to get the cursor stop and remain at the place I stop, you showed us about doing this in Actions. In my version (6.64) i do not find the option of 'move edit cursor on stop). What do I do?
Update. 😀 Reaper is many versions ahead of that by now, and this action didn't exist in your version. However, you may also find the "transport: play/pause" action to be very similar, and you should have that one.
I'm trying to find a video. My cursor disappears at end of the track so I can't see what I'm playing or recording. The track is stationary and the cursor keeps moving
Love your videos, help a lot! I’m stuck noodle reaper my master track has no volume fader… can’t adjust the volume on the master because there is no actual fader to adjust and I don’t know why
Is there a toggle version of these 2 actions? So I can have a toggle button in y toolbar like in Protools, instead of a cmd+space that isn't very practical to me :)
yes but it's with SWS. It's in Jon's latest SWS update video. I put the action in the main toolbar and assigned it to "N" to be just like PT. There's also some razor edit updates now that will be similar to PT too.
ruclips.net/video/ruSKUHLP4nE/видео.html Hey Kenny! This video I'm playing rhythm guitar this shows what the cursor does at the end of the track it disappears and the track is stationary so I can not see how my recording looks. Thanks Kenny! Very helpful addition!
Thank you!! I have needed this for awhile now!
hey kenny great tutorial, as always. I would like to ask you, this not the same as the "pause" you do with the enter key?? I understand that now you have the option in the action list, but im confused.
Correct. Pause is different. Both have their uses but having both options is better.
How is it different though? Would've been nice to see a comparison in the video
@@luiza177music Maybe that will be another video. But the uses for pause are not really related to what I show here.
@@REAPERMania would love to see that!
I thought the same thing, always used "pause" to do this, wanna know the difference
... thnx Kenny 😉🎼👍🏽 it's curious that Bill also used it at that moment in the film 😁😉
A great addition !

same here
Yes, I believe that is Reaper's default setting. i was wondering the same thing as I've use Enter as my pause button for ages.

Thanks for this. I've been using pause mapped to my Enter key on my numeric keypad for years now.
I have too, and I'm confused as to how this new action is any different or better. I feel there's some detail I must be missing(?)
@@emorylane2292 I too am missing something here. It seems to be the same as pause.

Not a huge difference but having REAPER paused isn't exactly the same as having it stopped.
@@REAPERMania in what exactly is it different? Maybe it keeps the audio device locked? Or something else? Thanks for replying btw
Hi there, with SWS there was a new panning plugin, i can't remember it you or who did the demo. do you know which is that plugin? thank you.
Love it! Also, Kenny using a PC now? If so, awesome! 👍👍
Great, but how is this different from using Return (Transport Play/Pause)?
Pause still has the transport engaged.
Thanks!
Ctrl-Enter/Enter are defaulted to Play/Pause on my Reaper 6.73, and this doesn't seem to be any different from that function?
