Love that tip at the end. It's easy to think that everything will go faster if everything is customized. But that's also your brain making excuses why you're not more productive and it also allows you to get distracted. Some things should be customized. But not everything.
The coolest thing about Reaper is that you find zero negativity in the comments of a Reaper video. Also the Reaper teachers like Kenny, Jon, Mike, Ayra etc. are cheering the videos of others. Proof can be found in any Reaper video. And: Well done again in this video Alejandro!!
Aaa so true Andreas! I think that's probably biggest motivator for me to keep making these for a long time. I have such a big appreciation for this community. Also thank you so much for the super kind words n__n
I did the jump-in method and started creating decent mixes right away. It's that good. Later, you realize the insane depth and what you can do, and like... it's free... So I bought a license!
I tried to learn Reaper several times but decided to actually jump in and use it when I had to edit a lot of podcasts. It took me a day or two to setup everything but it saved me weeks of working time because Reaper can change the speed rate, remove silence on different tracks simultaneously and cut time with a crossfade with one key! Your tutorials helped me a lot!
I love your channel and how down to earth your approach is😄 I'm new-ish to Reaper, and it's people like you, Kenny Gioia etc. that make me so happy I chose this DAW; such a positive community, so many things to do!
I defected to Reaper once support for my digi002 died off (and then the hardware also died). I also got an RME babyface Pro FS and knew reaper would work with it. I've barely scratched the surface of all that Reaper is capable of but I'm getting more done with less issues than I ever had with my previous DAW. I absolutely love it!
5:35 this is extremely sage advice. For those of us with Tweak Fever/more structure-seeking brains, optimizing your workflow and setting your creative space up correctly is both a godsend, and a poison apple. I find every hour I spend making templates/creating shortcuts/actions actually takes AWAY my creative spark for a short while. This is okay, if you are committed to remembering that the reason you're doing that stuff is to MAKE MUSIC! Years back, I spent months setting up a 1000+ track template with slave computers, for the ultimate always-loaded writing experience, and guess what...I wrote almost nothing!!! Im a huge proponent of modular workflows now. Reaper is the king for this.
AMAZING. Thank you for putting it like that. That's exactly how it is! Modular is definitely the way to go. Like just focus on creating a huge library of track templates overtime fueled by your own experiences and actual real cases~
For me, the Kenny G videos were an experience I'd rather forget, felt more like torture than any kind of guidance; up till now the User Guide has turned out to be my warmest friend;
This channel its just too good man, thanks for the hard work! (Just so good the I'm procrastinating for too long hauhuhua, getting back to my song now, see ya)
Bro I appreciate this. I get analysis paralysis and end up not doing anything! It's just how my brain is. I get overwhelmed by all of the options. Thanks for your hard work on these tips and videos!
Excellent video! I really use only what I need and nothing else. And it's true, you can spend hours and hours customizing to really use nothing or very few of what you just customized. Great great advice! Saludos! 👊🤘
I like to put these custom things in toolbars, so that i can find them again later on. Once in a while i check out all of these and just remove what i don't use.
Hey Alejandro, great video. Very recognizable too. I didn't like Reaper at first. Was used to Reason and Bitwig. But somehow reaper kept my interest. I spent 1 day a while ago clicking on everything I could in reaper and was then sold. Since that time I've only discovered more amazing things about reaper and it's my main DAW now. I have also benefited a lot from your site (besides Kenny of course😉). You're doing a good job.... keep it up!!
hahahaa been putting emojis and gifs on my videos since I was 14 as well, at this point it's really really important for me to include them for tradition 🥰
I made my own customized actions where I have buttons at the top that open my favorite plugins. For example, one button says "EQ." When I have a track selected, I can click that button & it will open the FX window for that track & add my Fabfilter Pro-Q3. I have 4 separate buttons that do that. It's fun to customize Reaper.
One thing I've only got into recently is using OSC to trigger actions. For example I have a mini dj controller (envivo) that I got for £10 off eBay. Some of the buttons have lights, so I've written a Python script which talks to this device, which then uses the jog wheels to scrub the timeline. By using a Python script, I can have multiple sets of OSC messages that the device sends, so e.g. with preset 1, the jog wheels move the timeline by beat or bar; another they move by samples; and so on. You can have much fun with this.
Reaper is highly customizable, maybe too highly customizable. That makes it kinda overwhelming for beginners and professionals alike because you never know whether you are doing anything the most efficient way. Until you learn that it does not matter, it's like DAW vs. DAWless, a childish way of thinking about music creation. It's the end result that counts. Period. Great video.
So i'm barely starting to use this and don't know how to use any daw at all, sooo I tried to save a backup file like you said and watched screen by screen what you clicked in case I mess something up but I don't know what I actually saved or where to go on my computer to reaccess it
Kind friend from the Americas, I have an electric drum set. How can I do so that every time I play the bass drum, whether it's very soft or very strong, the midi speed is always the same? (I mean, like in a trigger module), thanks!
Hi Alejandro you explain things very well. I play in a band that uses backing track which I get from karaoke version, i mix all the track I need then render them I'm having trouble keeping all backing tracks the same level what is the best way to keep all tracks at the same level ? cheers mate
Hey! You can look into the render settings 'normalize' function. I believe you can normalize by LUFs so, you can set it to something like -12 LUFs and reaper will normalize all tracks to that level of loudness! Let me know if it works :)
Exactly it! Or even crazier, you could make a portable install of REAPER and just put it in a USB stick and carry your whole reaper setup with you, even open and operate it from your USB stick :D
You know, your Newsletter submission form is broken. It just gives a generic error message when trying to use it. And I disabled all blockers for that...
I wish Kenny G. wouldn't end every. Word. Like. A. Sentence... It drives me nuts. His tuts are great, but he repeats too much. As if the Reaper Audience were.... well.
Love that tip at the end. It's easy to think that everything will go faster if everything is customized. But that's also your brain making excuses why you're not more productive and it also allows you to get distracted. Some things should be customized. But not everything.
Thank you so much!! It's something I've been wanting to say for a long loooong time. Happy it resonated! ✨
Words from the master himself :)

You just saved me from giving up when you showed how to backup the entire program.

Love Kenny's videos but also love how you can provide your own perspective and highly intuitive insights. You're doing great work!!
Thank you so so much 💙💙

Your video editing and room lighting are really good and obviously Reaper rocks :)
Thank you so much!! ✨ - I super super enjoy all the process. My next mission is trying to get the microphone out of the way (sooo difficult)
Great video ! I really like your philosophy and the way you approach your tutorials, and your humor.
The end advices are nice (and do damn true 😅).
Thank you soooo much for the continuous support Tokolele! ✨ makes me smile to see you here :D

gotta love reaper. Its my main DAW. No matter how many I tried I always go back to reaper. Love your cute emojis hehe

I still love reaper so far. I've tried other audio daws but reaper is the most reliable for me.🌷

i use reaper since 2 years now and i like it
🤘🏿🤓🤘🏿
I use ReaCoffee for dark mode theme and Apollo4 for daytime use.
Alejandro, could we get a reaper video editing tips tutorial from you?
Wow 14 years using reaper🤘🤘🤘🤘

I created a 'Test Project" that I use specifically for learning what Reaper can do, this way I don't lose anything important.
So i'm barely starting to use this and don't know how to use any daw at all, sooo I tried to save a backup file like you said and watched screen by screen what you clicked in case I mess something up but I don't know what I actually saved or where to go on my computer to reaccess it

Avoiding the customization trap is a huge tip lol
Reaper is a god of draws🙌🙌🙌😘😘😘
Hi do you have a link to the song at 2:43?

reaper is so incredibly frustrating for me
but i do like how customizable it is and once i learn it, i think it wil be rly great
hey! i've been there, I totally get it!
if it helps, it does get much better once you set things up to your liking~
Reaper is best DAW and every program should work like reaper.
Dang… is that backup file something I could take and load into a friend’s computer with reaper and have all of my settings? That’s awesome
Exactly it! Or even crazier, you could make a portable install of REAPER and just put it in a USB stick and carry your whole reaper setup with you, even open and operate it from your USB stick :D
so funny-the shaking hand going to the mouse-the customization struggle is Real!
genial bist Du, Mercivielmals!!!!!!
Time spent customising is time saved when there is a tight deadline
How did you slide across your project like that at 3:31? What key command did you use? Ive been looking FOREVER
It's a razor edit. Shift alt right click drag! (if I remember correctly)
My man uses Reaper AND TickTick? Instant sub :)
The nest up date put something on the right screen,
is reaper a one time payment sir?
Where/ How did you get to your "Tip Ideas" list on Reaper? Thanks in advance.
Hi! I'm using ticktick for it :D
@@Reapertips Awesome! Thanks again.
Subbed and Liked.
I find pro tools so much herder to learn personally
You know, your Newsletter submission form is broken. It just gives a generic error message when trying to use it. And I disabled all blockers for that...
Thank you for letting me know! - what form did you use?
Something very important to look into : MOUSE MODIFIERS
Hey brother. Can you give me this reaper theme of yours? I like it so much. Thank you❤
Reaper is awesome but yes sometimes you might just want to produce, just so you don't think you have some self sabotage thing happening.....
lufticus - there is no clarity on the tops, best path - use free coral baxter acoustica audio
Easiesr said then done.
Camilo 2.
Did you mean procrastinate?
whewww! thank you, fixing right away!
Its simple, smoke some cannabis listen to music and just do a customization session.... do it when you are uninspired.. peace...
so reaper is full of rabbit holes that ocd'ers could spend years rummaging around in?
all that and more for 60? you had me at 'hi'...
I wish Kenny G. wouldn't end every. Word. Like. A. Sentence... It drives me nuts. His tuts are great, but he repeats too much. As if the Reaper Audience were.... well.
Some great tips, and so nice to see you give a shout out to Kenny Gioia @REAPERMania - Tutorials don't get better than that, so clear and so concise.
