  • This Sundeer 64 yacht has a lot to love. In a nutshell she's pretty, performance-oriented, and has plenty of accommodation. In addition she's designed and outfitted for going anywhere. Lastly, she's a reasonable price for a 64' yacht of this quality at an asking price of $549,000.
The combination of the aft helms, protected pilothouse, cutter ketch rig, and her fast design make this as close to a perfect 64' as you can get in my humble opinion. She's practical, not flashy, and that's refreshing in a boat this size.
Sidenote: The designer, Steve Dashew, has a website called setsail.com where he's made tons of cruising information via his four books available by PDF, for FREE so that's really neat! I suggest you check it out.

Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. We started out with Somnium, an O'day 272, moved onto Freebie, an Endeavour 32, and now are focusing on sailboat tours and working full time as teachers while we save up for our next boat.

This is by far hands down the ultimate dream boat. You did not play up how much open space and breath there is in this boat. From the pilot house to the berths - So incredibly clean and wide open. All the spaces breathe and are well lit. Even the deck is perfection.

Well Jordan, it is a beautifully kept boat. And the selling price is great. I’m sure someone will love this boat.
For me, I just can’t really find to much I like in the layout for a 65’ boat. For that size, I think the designer could have gotten so much more out of it.
    Otherwise, we’ll kept and affordable.

On some levels I agree, but to know the Dashew's is to know all the designs, Deerfoot, SunDeer, then the grand finally Beowulf, (aluminum hull) are all designed as easy handling, fast, single couple cruisers. Well designed for that purpose...you can find youtube videos of Beowulf doing amazing speeds in transit from the South Pacific to Hawaii 300 mile days using water ballast tanks and twin spinakers....absolutely fantastic!...Wish I had one like her!

Unusual rare features that are halmarks of this boat were not mentioned. Although props to you for touring this amazing famous Dashew sailboat. It's like touring a Lamborghini. Look at an Oyster 64 with a beam of 17.7 ft. Even the Oyster 58 has a beam of 16ft. This Dashew is a speed demon. Notice the beam is 1/4 the length? narrow arrow for amazing speed. Mention the hull design is unique for stability. This boat can do more than 300nm a day on passages. Other 64s do about 170-240 NM daily average in passage. The interior layout is not designed for luxurious comfort, but for passage making practicality. In other words practically comfortable. The design layout & features are more similar to expedition yachts rather than cruising yachts. This is why some don't like layout.

Lots of cool and smart solutions (eg a galley that seems to be able to be use during a real heel). Also, I assume the quality is OK, but I had forgotten the early 90's tacky style: the design of the sofas and nav chair (in leather?) and the mirrors everywhere makes me think of Red Light brothel.
If it was up to me I'd totally redesigned the forward cabin with separate head and shower, coz who needs 8 feet of vanity?
Besides, at the asking price (and the size) I'd expect that all lines are routed back to the cockpit. Further, and as Jordan noted, where are the space for solar panels,,, after all, we live in the 2020's.
All in all I have a hard time marking this as a full bred "Expedition" boat. To have such a tag it needs to be built and specked for extreme environments (read: high north or south) which it is NOT (heating, enclosed cockpit, etc). Also, where to deck or stove the Highfield-like dingy (ie, the car)? So for those who splash around in a backyard pool (ie the Caribbean/Pacifics) it seems OK with some mods.

Hey Jordan, just want to correct your use of the term Pullman berth. That bed is just a double berth on the port side. A Pullman berth is a single bed that is usually pulled down from the overhead or the bulkhead and can be stowed out of the way when not in use. Originally named from use on train Pullman carriages.

I love your videos. Correction: They are called - Bow Pulpit, - Mast Pulpit, - Stern Pulpit. On RUclips videos, the mast pulpit is frequently and incorrectly called granny bars or sissy bars. Here is the real name. If you have sailed offshore in real conditions, and need to make an adjustment on deck while underway, The pulpit is where the sailor secures himself or herself so they are not swept offshore or injured by being thrown about. The pulpit is safety feature #1. Fun fact, in a church, a pulpit is a raised area where the priest stands and preaches.

There is an autopilot control there. What more do you need? You're obviously not a sailor because to sail properly you need to see the sail set and the waves. You also need to feel the wind. People who don't sail don't understand. Why do you think there are so few full pilothouse sailboats? Consider this is a Dashew and they are legendary cruisers. I submit that you and other "Delos" aficionados don't really want a sailboat...you want a Trawler

    • @captainsalty56
      @captainsalty56 3 года назад

@@fredjones7705 Bit intrigued by your reply. We have a pilot house yacht (Duncanson 43) with a second steering station. We seldom use the pilothouse steering station, other than in really extreme weather (probably 3 or 4 times in 20 years), but do find it useful for watch keeping knowing we can control the boat from the pilot house if we need to. Our pilot house is a sunken deck level and it takes a few frantic steps up the 4 companion way steps and then a few more jumps to reach the upper steering station. As mentioned we do the majority of our sailing, course changes, sail trimming and collision avoidance from the upper steering station - just old school in this regards, but I wouldn't think anyone was a lesser sailor from driving at a pilot house wheel - more what you get use to. Lots of electronics to assist with wind direction, speed etc.

The boat looks set up for a couple. The forward cabin is comfortable and the saloon is vast, but there are a few oddities.
The galley looks tight, and so does the walkway through the chart table area. The curved cupboards mean that the shelf space above is unusable. The sailing instruments are spread around the boat not handy to the helms. The covered cockpit area only allows steering by autopilot.
Lastly, the hull and superstructure look like steel or aluminium. It would be good to know what it is.

Too bad there is no steering from the pilot house. In bad weather the automatic steering systems would probably be the first to go. It would be nice to be able to manually steer while being protected. Also, I don't think having the mainsheet so far forward away from the cockpit is very smart. Nor do I think having the wind instruments by themselves so far from the helm area very convenient. The granny bars seem to be so wide that they prevent access to the interior decks. Some of the mirrors are very bad Feng Shui. On the other hand, I agree those cabinets with the pop up lids are really nice. : )

Was this boat a charter boat in the USVI? It looks very familiar and I noticed the USVI flag on the port shroud.

How does one helm the boat from the pilot house? You did not really show that? Hope so. That would be the smart thing to be able to do.

I like the modern design with the right amount of lighter wood, very spacey, not crazy about the mirrors it is not a motel room!
It feel strange not to have a wheel in the pilot house but Steve Dashew sees the future,I guess.Supertankers do not have wheels either .The price seems like a give away, the replacement would be several millions. Is there an issue underwater??

How do you control it from the pilot house? I don't see it.

Is it really a pilot house if there's no helm there? How do you pilot it past reefs and rocks from there? I'd argue that it's more of an observation deck for in bad weather than a pilot house.

I know that this is gonna sound like a stupid question and I will obviously be showing that I am no sailor but how in the heck do you reach the back of that freezer from that small door up front?

And what was that door? in the aft head behind the door going to nav station?

I haven’t watched one of your videos in a while. I was hoping you would have started to include the price up front. The price is what either makes it incredible or a looser.

Fantastic walk through. Well done Sir. We are looking for our first "Live a board"
Not sure if we are leaning toward a Trawler or a "Motor Sail"
Could you recommend someone that might be able to locate a boat for us? A broker or? Someone that could take us through the vessel by video? You did a super job.

An obvious question, is why are the prices of the boats you tour, hundreds of thousands of dollars more expensive than others shown on other channels in comparable condition?

this magnificent boat could become a splendid refit project, with a total expenditure of 1.5 million it would have a 64 feet at half the market value for a similar size

I'm not sure how well the EPIRB works due to the antenna being in the up right position which would be in the activated position
