She's certainly a nice looking craft. She makes good time over the sea,.. not exactly a single-hander though, is she? She looks like she takes an extra hand or two to operate. My other apprehension would be the She'snot that old, 'n' the people are selling her already?... why?
Dashew is a genius. And Beowulf is the epitome of sailboat perfection. All no-nonsense business on the outside, beautiful and comfortable on the inside. And she was built over 20 years ago. If you have the opportunity, I think you'd love Dashew's FPB series. I think FPB Iceberg is currently for sale. If you liked Beowulf, the FPBs are next level. They stopped manufacturing them a few years back, however, so those remaining are almost collector's items. Thanks for taking us aboard Beowulf! What a dream boat. You can tell from the video she's just itching to get into the blue and chew up some miles.
If you really want to understand this boat watch the video that the Dashews' put out about it. It includes a trip from the south Pacific to San Diego where they averaged well over 200 miles a day. This is an interesting boat, but is very system heavy. They have backups for nearly everything, but you could be dead in the water if there was a major system failure. This boat was sailed by Steve and Linda as a couple, but if they had a system failure it would be nearly impossible for them to sail the boat manually.
I was on her with Steve Dashew in 1999. I was in a race down to Virgin Gorda in the 1999 Caribbean 1500 run by Steve Black. I had just bought a boat three months before. A brand new 46 foot Beneteau. I had never sailed before in my life, but I bought this boat because I had retired early and wanted to sail. We are all gathered in the marina and Steve invited me aboard and showed me around. I remember being top and looking at the Plenum that fed the dorades. The thing looked like a military machine to me. Steve was incomparably nice despite my naiveté. I wanted to tell him what my emotional reaction was to the design of the boat on the outside. I knew what a ketch was, and I knew what roaches full batten sails were. I had never been on a boat in the ocean, I was about to be on a boat in the ocean in my own boat. And I was going to be racing Steve! All the boats had PHRF ratings, so I was not really racing against Steve, but I was in the same race. So I looked around, and I started to tell him what I thought of the aesthetics of the boat and I was searching for a word and I said, “it’s so, so, so Teutonic!” he considered what I had said for a moment and he said, “I don’t like that think of another word.” I smiled because I realize he was an intellectual, and he was into words and meaningful conversation. I thought, and then I said, slowly, “how about menacing?” We both laughed. He took me below all through the boat, and I asked questions, sometimes the questions were challenging some of the dimensions of the draft and ballast with respect to the other dimensions. Even though I was a new seller, I had Read pretty extensively. He never objected to the Questions I asked. He simply explained them. I thought the boat was magnificent and especially that it could be sailed by two people. It was a very kind of Bauhaus feeling below. I would love to own that boat. The race started with a horn going off, I went full speed out of the bay into the Atlantic ocean add a full 8 kts and was passed by Steve who was going 14 Kts. I actually won my class. It was 9 1/2 days. Steve got there in 4 1/2 days. Steve leaves a wake! I liked him very much. He was manor born and lived a life that was not only exhilarating for himself, but for many others, and he has left many fine boats that will stand to the test of time. This boat can point so closer to the wind than any other boat I have been on. And that is a huge thing when you sell because for some reason you seem to be having the wind on your nose a great deal of the time when making ocean passages. The very ocean worthy Amel cannot do much more than 45° into the wind. This boat can probably do 30°. A friend of mine sailed one of his Windeer boats and said he did 29°. They are long and thin. The opposite of what Boat showboats are these days. As a matter fact, he told me without any hostility or condescension that my boat was a boat show boat and I laughed. It was, but it also was a very good vote. That did everything pretty well. Which I only learned after sailing from the Chesapeake down to Virgin Gorda. At one point, the steering wheel fell off the binnacle, and I had to heave too and it hove (heaved?) to magnificently. it was fast and fun and I single-handed for six months before I came home. it took me 9 1/2 days to get down and because of whether 24 days to get back! At one point I spent 24 hours trying to make headway and did not make a single mile. I had to turn around and run for the North Shore of Provo. I shot through an opening in the barrier reefs into a harbor. That was calm but riddled with coral heads. The boat that came in after me came down the same shoot of water but hit a coral head and sank. So I got a lot of experience in a very short time! Whoever buys that boat will not only get a fine boat, a magnificent boat, but a piece of Boat history and, a work of art.
Yes! A tour and sea trial of the unicorn! I’m a huge fan of the Dashew designs, and have watched dozens of hours of their videos. The Dashew’s do a great job of showing the speed, safety, and comfort under way of their hull designs... but it took NautiStyles to show how the layout is also an inspired design that adds to the ability of a couple to sail to any destination of their dreams. Great episode!
All I can say is "Damn!" As an experienced rag sailer, seeing that beauty running with only one jib aloft and a trimmed prop at 10 knots is remarkable! My experience with a boat that size wasn't trimmed out like this and didn't run a quickly oR as stable! Most of the boats I sailed were 27' Catalinas and bigger Solengen racers. Totally separate in style and technique to sail. 80' plus sailboats are extreme in comfort but this Lady of the Seas is the top of the pile! THANK YOU! You caused me to remember all my hours of sailing experience with this video!
Probably the most famous sailboat of all time! It was so far ahead of anything in its day that it’s still above and beyond most of its contemporaries. Saw this boat in Alameda California when she was squeaky new.
That is definitely one of the most thought out boats on the water. The Dashews really knew what they were doing by the time they got around to this one …
@@rudy103069 I totally agree. I was thinking the same thing. Might lose some ballast weight, but I'm sure that's probably not an issue with a boat of this caliber. Can always throw some cement into the bottom, underneath the lithium. Now just to gather the $$'s to purchase.. Might have to break open my piggy bank. lol
Saying to the Captain “put Rico to work” was equivalent to a Dad asking his child “do you want to steer” the car. He jumped right in like a champ. Good video and your giddiness was fun to see.
Wow, I've been watching for a few years now and without doubt this is the most interesting boat ever. And to go on a sea trial to see and almost feel the power and sped this yacht generates was amazing. I will be watching and rewatching this for a long time.
Steve and Linda Dashew. THE sailing and boat construction legends. Really amazing. You should get in touch with Sue Grant from Berthon and do an FPB video as well. That would be fun!
Oh yes, please!! The folks at Berthon do some walkthroughs themselves, which is how I discovered the FPB in the first place, but it's different to have someone go through it who isn't selling the boat. Even though I know you don't say negative things about the boats you tour (and there's precious little reason with the FPBs anyway; they're magnificent), there's a kind of outsider's eye view that's great to get about boats you can't see for yourself, very different from the salesperson's.
Next video should be an FPB. Steve and Linda have designed the most amazing true expedition power boat for two people to handle. An FPB is my dream yacht 😊
Great to see a REAL yacht away from the plastic fantastic for a change. Linda and Steve designed amazing yachts and awesome videos to prove their designs. Well done 👌

My curiosity was satisfied by this video. Previously I had lived on the shores of Lake Ontario prior to moving to LA. I had read extensively of the Dashews' sailing adventures. I had also admired Beowulf as I sailed past her when she was docked in D basin when I was conducting sail lessons. The wow factor and awe of seeing a famous world cruiser has stayed with me. Previous to Beowulf coming to town I would admire the Sundeer/Deerfoot across the basin.
04:54 Built in Truckee, California? In the mountains at 6,000' elevation? A couple hundred miles from the Pacific Ocean? 80x17... transported on a twisty mountain highway, then through several cities including Sacramento? Sounds legit.
It is such a pleasure watching you two give us a tour of yachts each week. Your editing skills are first rate and your outages are so funny! . It is so obvious that you love what you do and we love watching. Bravo!
Absolutely LOVE this yacht since I saw an article in a boating magazine about them sailing this yacht back from NZ . ( there is also a RUclips video of that trip) . It can easily be sailed by 2 people and maneuvers very easily with just the engine and the special prop , you can turn it in it's own length , amazing. Thanks for the video and tour.
Each and every Dashew build is amazing, it is a shame that the business is no longer operating...it is my hope that the Daschew's entrust someone to carry on their legacy...they went into building amazing Power Boats as they got older and they are also incredible works as well...just amazing husband and wife team...from New Zealand I believe...they have built boats that can go upwind at phenomenal speeds and comfort in the nastiest weather...their research on transom design and the importance of the transom on overall performance is second to none...read everything you can...
Wow, this is the best boat tour I've seen you do. You really have to know what you're doing to take this thing out to sea. A lot of lines to keep track of and avoid tripping over.
Perfect. I started looking Dashew Yachts a few years ago. I was completely amazed by their construction and remarkable sea worthiness. Thanks so much for posting this timely and educational tour. The Captain is a wonderful man.
Beowulf looks modest on the outside but on the inside oh wow 😮. Beowulf ( despite the male name) is a real Lady Explorer of the Sea, world class design of the sails and boat. I'm going to say this again a world class design of the interior. It's the kind of boat that is important to the history of sailing yacht design never to be replaced by the one and only Steve Dashew. Thank you for this introduction to Beowulf.😅
I really enjoyed this! To see a world cruiser like this is incredible.1998 technology in todays tech world and how forward thinking the builders were is amazing.
Hiya Vico, wow what a wonderful beast, they sailed from California to New Zeeland with no interior. They had the insides done to such a standard though I would think the owners were deciding what they needed during that first long sail, plus what they thought would be fun. That open deck in the pilothouse allows access to the salon, I love that, and that from the outside the pilothouse looks not so much a battleship as the catapult officer home on a carrier. Lexan, the material that they used on the pilothouse is bulletproof glass. What a great engine room, talk about space. Everything fitted in rather than, shoehorned in. A perfect yacht for the right couple, not my thing but it does indeed take all sorts. Thank you, and stay safe, Steve...
What part of male-female dynamics don't you understand?😂This is a generalization (which can be dangerous) but years of observation have led me to the conclusion that when women are talking in a group they tend to pile on whereas men tend to wait until someone else is finished. Not always, but I think that factors in 1:1 male-female interaction. Now I'll brace for the backlash. 😮
I've actually got two outboard water tanks (700L each) on my 46' ketch and a "polishing" system to move (and filter) water between them. Any time I'm planning to go to wind for any significant distance, I transfer all of my water to the windward tank, and it makes a huge difference (probably 5-10 degrees of heel)!
Wow! What a stunning yacht!! You've done a great video/editing job showing this wonderful boat to us all. It's made my weekend and can't wait to watch it all again!
Sailboats are not my favorite personally, but, I have always liked the design of them and how they look in the water. The ones I've seen in person usually have very unique interiors and woodworking which I'm very fond of. Even though I'd never buy one myself, I'm looking forward to seeing what this beauty has inside and out. Thanks for the Saturday content Victoria and Rico, it's always appreciated!
Absolutely blown away! I honestly don't care for 30+ min wheels, and was just thinking that id just skip forward. Well, I find myself backing up and hearing the explanation over again! What an amazing ship and brilliant design!
Yey! A proper yacht!! and actually sailing!!! I'd heard of Beowulf and seen some footage of her sailing, thanks for doing the tour! What an experience!
I'm about as far from an expert as you can get as regards boat stuff. But, wow! What an amazing boat. Fascinating. Thanks to everyone who made this possible.
I really liked the video, but the moment that thrilled me it's when you showed us the opening of all the sails to gain speed. Very beautiful boat ☺️ love you and your video❤️
I do not like walkthrough tours .. . except you guys! Your channel is awesome, the interactions between V and R are endlessly entertaining, thank you for sharing!
Wow, what a beautiful explorer yacht this is. And Errol is epic. He is funny. He sounds like (and that’s meant as a compliment) Stan Laurel. Priceless.
I don't know if this is the particular boat, but I saw one of the Dashews' videos of them down around Australia/New Zealand in fairly heavy seas with 35 - 40 knots of wind and the boat was just flying along at 20 knots just as stable and comfortable as being in your living room. Their yachts can sail. No question about that!
I love the teasing banter between you both especially when you are having fun and geeking out on the sea together. This was a fun video. How about filming a run to Catalina with booze in the blender and the music blasting.
Again you two, pull it off. Sound track so perfit. Editing, like a I max theater. A sailing yacht that was so far ahead of it time. 2 people, 3000 miles. 12 knots. How crazy is that. Rico, that's what you should buy.... don't pass it up. Your dream of dreams. Any where on earth..... And you can bring many friends..... jump on it. Be happy.
I usually watch you tube videos on my phone. But for this one I watched on my big screen TV. Excellent tour. Even though I've never been on a sailboat, they fascinated me. Great job you two!
I like Dashew's. The first time I ever saw one was on Berthon's channel. They have lots of them they sell. All the ones I've seen are very bare bones inside. I'm sure at Marina Del Ray people are probably saying 'Like Oh my gosh....why don't they paint that boat? Did they like build it and then run out of money for paint? Maybe we can start a bake sale for them to buy paint or something' Thise are jokes. Every Dashew that I have also ever seen has been owned and crewed by a family and eve the bigger ones have like 3 cabins. The crew cabins are on board as well and is minimal too. Also, that shower is designed so that if you are sailing in rough weather, and taking a shower, the water doesn't splash out all over the place. Plus in cold weather if your feet were soaked in cold seawater, you can soak your feet in warm water. They put thought in Dashews.
I thought the idea of pumping sea water in to use as ballast is a brilliant idea. I wish you could have done something like a before and after on that feature while you were doing your sea trials. Also, that interior was really laid out nicely, especially for a 23 year old boat. It looks like they really took good care of the interior.
Thank you for having us come along with us. That is a beautiful ship sail ship. I joyed each and everything you guys shoulders on here watching from southern Alberta, Canada.
This was an absolutely stunning boat, another great video, we loved it. I also loved the music in the first few minutes!!! Thank you all, Errol included. - Jack & Kat
Seeing the inside of this yacht is awesome! I've seen the outside with I was visiting California years ago. You are so right about how it looks. It's very intimidating to see and it does remind one of a battleship.
For me, this was the most enjoyable yacht video you have produced. Errol Perling looked liked a person I would like to know. Very genuine type of person. I could say the same about the two of you. I can't say I'm new to yachting, but rather more interested and learning about yachts. If I could just make one suggestion for your videos, would be for you to add a closed caption for names of people, equipment, and anything else that is specific to the boating industry. Thank you for your videos. Raymond Kender aspiring yacht owner.
I recently explored the entire Dashew channel: super cool yachts. Really nice to see you on this yacht now. Hope you can film some of their other yachts too.
Interesting , Thank You . A sailboat with much room. I like the acess to everything . Impressive engine room with access . Also that controler is just what everybody needs
Thank you! I’ve been sailing my 29 footer past Beowulf for years and never thought I’d get a chance to explore the interior and MANY systems aboard the boat.
I have sailed in Marina Del Rey many times but never saw this boat. Today I kayaked right by and noticed it was a beast looming over the water. Then this video popped into my feed! Crazy algorithm. I even left my phone in the car while kayaking, so there is no way Google knew.
This is truly an Explorer, kitted out to last the end of times. Huge boat with half the space dedicated to function and operation, not comfort like most vessels of our age. Thats how it should be.
Loved it!! It would really be intimidating to be cruising at 8 knots to the islands and this monster goes blowing by you at those speeds. WOW, WOW!! Great job guys would love to see more of it at a slower pace.
I really liked this video. I don't even sail. So interesting all the thought that went into this boat. It reminded me of the Allseas 92'. Nothing was there just because it might be fashionable or trending. Just amazing.
Hi NautiStyles . This was an INCREDIBLE video . Amazing tour & detailed info on all the mechanics & technology . Super exciting to see her sailing . Felt like I was onboard with you . ps. You guys make a great team & couple . Never forget to keep laughing . God bless . Mark (Toronto) 👍💙
Now I don’t sail and don’t even own a boat okay But listen to this guy explaining what this yacht can do and has on board, with limited knowledge, it is pretty impressive to say the least. Once again really enjoy your videos you guys do.
I am jealous. It has everything I want in my dream aluminum sailing yacht! Only mine would be a little smaller. I enjoyed your tour and sea trial immensely.
@@NautiStyles Its a tank. Its a piece of terra firma. Its a monster. I've seen it under sail one time long ago. It was stable as a rock. THANKS FOR THE BEST RUclips CHANNEL!!!
I have been dying to get aboard this iconic Explorer Yacht for a long time! See you all in the LIVE CHAT during the Premiere 🙏🏻💙
She's certainly a nice looking craft.
She makes good time over the sea,.. not exactly a single-hander though, is she?

Couldn't agree more!
What a fabulous world explorer yacht. So much space and amazing gear. I'm blown away
The Mad Max of sailing yachts! Incredible boat. Love to see the videos of you guys underway.
we are sailing it in the video... 🤔
I completely agree! Pretty incredible if you are dreaming to sail the world in a monohull
Victoria , please stop talking over Rico . On many recent videos you ask Rico a question and then before he answers you are stepping his lines.
Its also incredibly rude😢
What part of male-female dynamics don't you understand?😂This is a generalization (which can be dangerous) but years of observation have led me to the conclusion that when women are talking in a group they tend to pile on whereas men tend to wait until someone else is finished. Not always, but I think that factors in 1:1 male-female interaction. Now I'll brace for the backlash. 😮
@@kennethpole2439 “over my years of observation” 🤓👆
Other channels do the same i avoid them like heck
@@Charlieramuman’s never had a sliver of good 🐈
I've actually got two outboard water tanks (700L each) on my 46' ketch and a "polishing" system to move (and filter) water between them.
Oooow it’s music to my ears! Thank youuuuu 🙏🏻🙏🏻💙💙
@@NautiStyles Agree. I've watched hundreds if not thousands! Really, really well done video tour.
Pretty freaking impressive and it looks almost new for a 30+ year old boat! And great innovative technology for a yacht of this age.
Thank you so much, glad to hear that
This boat specifically and the builder (Dashew) are just incredible. Been following them for years!
Absolutely blown away! I honestly don't care for 30+ min wheels, and was just thinking that id just skip forward. Well, I find myself backing up and hearing the explanation over again! What an amazing ship and brilliant design!
I've seen this boat several times while paddling around the marina and always wondered what it was like onboard...thanks for the look around!
Yey! A proper yacht!! and actually sailing!!! I'd heard of Beowulf and seen some footage of her sailing, thanks for doing the tour! What an experience!
Awesome! So glad you enjoyed it as well
Water World. I can see the thought that went into all the unique design features, amazing! Beowulf is an ideal name. Serious world cruiser.
Seeing a yacht like this sailing on the sea makes me smile. Wow.
those boats are amazing, built by a true craftsman, his passion shines all throughout the boat , amazing
I was sad when the video was over. : (
I'm about as far from an expert as you can get as regards boat stuff. But, wow! What an amazing boat. Fascinating. Thanks to everyone who made this possible.
Can’t think of a better host/hostess to tour us this amazing boat! So glad you got to show us a sea run!
I never thought I would see a sailing vessel that a slalom water ski could ride behind. At 28 knots it is just right!🎉
Haha! That would be fun!
That is a Beautiful Yacht, and that Double Spinnaker setup is Radical. Loved the Interior Design.
That's a legendary boat! I hope you could get to a FPB78 or FPB97 and I'm pretty sure Rico would be awed by these beautiful machine.
I really liked the video, but the moment that thrilled me it's when you showed us the opening of all the sails to gain speed. Very beautiful boat ☺️ love you and your video❤️
I do not like walkthrough tours .. . except you guys! Your channel is awesome, the interactions between V and R are endlessly entertaining, thank you for sharing!
what an education on the world of Sailing Yachts...the true heart and soul of becoming one with your boat
That is not your typical yacht but a real gem. That fish eye lens is cool! I like it!
Awesome boat and tour thank you for doing it, the pilot house floor is on another level.
Our pleasure!
having sailed in my younger days, I can say a sailboat that size doing over 10 knots is amazing.
Wow, what a beautiful explorer yacht this is.
And Errol is epic. He is funny. He sounds like (and that’s meant as a compliment) Stan Laurel. Priceless.
Thank you to Victoria and Rico, and to Errol for that amazing tour! I want that boat so much. It's only about twice my price range, alas...
Nora, you are so welcome 🙏🏻💙
I don't know if this is the particular boat, but I saw one of the Dashews' videos of them down around Australia/New Zealand in fairly heavy seas with 35 - 40 knots of wind and the boat was just flying along at 20 knots just as stable and comfortable as being in your living room. Their yachts can sail. No question about that!
I love the teasing banter between you both especially when you are having fun and geeking out on the sea together. This was a fun video. How about filming a run to Catalina with booze in the blender and the music blasting.
Haha! Now we are talking! 😝 do you think you guys would watch that? Lol
by far the most well thought out interior design i have ever seen on a boat...
Thanks for the feedback guys! Means the world 🌎
this boat is a ghost, terminal illness of metal sickness, it would cost a million to grind and epoxy this, doubt you can even insure her....
@@coolcreamykiwimetal sickness huh? Is that why the outside of the hull looks like it does?
Seeing the inside of this yacht is awesome! I've seen the outside with I was visiting California years ago. You are so right about how it looks. It's very intimidating to see and it does remind one of a battleship.
Потрясающая, невероятная, умопомрачительная яхта! Ей не хватает только пиратского флага.
Спасибо за видео!
Fantastic! Love the stealth look, in brilliant condition and ready to go! The sailing equivalent of a Bering explorer for sure! 🥰🥰🥰
Love the design of Dashew boats, the FPB's. Utilitarian on the outside, classy comfort on the inside
I recently explored the entire Dashew channel: super cool yachts. Really nice to see you on this yacht now. Hope you can film some of their other yachts too.
Thanks Roy! We will definitely try
Real design, real engineering. Love it.
We agree!
Guest cabins are still massive for a boat and look really comfy. Amazing boat!
The FPB line has my eye when I win the lottery. Amazing idea and design to “surf” the waves in rough weather.
Video starts at 02:15
I watched at 3x speed... that gal loves the sound of her voice.
Bless her heart.
Errol maintains our boat. Love it. And the boat! So cool.
Victoria, Ricco ..Earl , What a wonderful sailboat and excellent tour . Thank You
Interesting , Thank You . A sailboat with much room. I like the acess to everything . Impressive engine room with access . Also that controler is just what everybody needs
Love it. More sailboats please. You should do a playlist of vintage wooden boats of New England!
Thank you! I’ve been sailing my 29 footer past Beowulf for years and never thought I’d get a chance to explore the interior and MANY systems aboard the boat.
👌🏻🙌🏻💙
I have sailed in Marina Del Rey many times but never saw this boat. Today I kayaked right by and noticed it was a beast looming over the water. Then this video popped into my feed! Crazy algorithm. I even left my phone in the car while kayaking, so there is no way Google knew.
I can't believe you got to SAIL this beauty! I'm so jealous. 😄
🙈 pinching myself 🤪 thanks for the double comments 🙏🏻
That's great. If you slip in the deckhouse, you can have a drink in the kitchen right away to celebrate it.
Back for another round Of the Beowulf. So Great!!
This is truly an Explorer, kitted out to last the end of times. Huge boat with half the space dedicated to function and operation, not comfort like most vessels of our age. Thats how it should be.
What a Awesome Yacht thanks for showing us! Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻💙
Now I don’t sail and don’t even own a boat okay
But listen to this guy explaining what this yacht can do and has on board, with limited knowledge, it is pretty impressive to say the least.
Once again really enjoy your videos you guys do.
glad to hear that!
Always impressed with how you turn a 5 minute tour of a boat into 40+ minutes.
You are welcome 😝🤷♀️😂
Absolutely exactly what I dream of sailing.
I am jealous. It has everything I want in my dream aluminum sailing yacht! Only mine would be a little smaller. I enjoyed your tour and sea trial immensely.
Thank you kindly
The best video you've released. The boat is amazing - please please now an FPB tour!!!
That is a beautiful sailboat. That is very beautiful. I’m watching all the way from the southern Alberta Canada.
Slowly motoring in flat water: ”It feels SO stable, it doesn’t move at all” :)
Great episode!
Well, I have been on enough sail boats to feel the movement… it just doesn’t move whatsoever
@@NautiStyles Its a tank. Its a piece of terra firma. Its a monster. I've seen it under sail one time long ago. It was stable as a rock. THANKS FOR THE BEST RUclips CHANNEL!!!
