- A how-to on the folding and tying of a side-zipper style tie dyed shirt.
Have fun experimenting with the design!
The $955 value in the title refers to the amount I've received from monetization of this video since it was published. The totals were last updated on 8/3/2022.
I'll update the title each month or so to show the current income from this video.
Note: This is not typical of the monetization I receive from the tie dye videos. There are five videos that have earned more than this; but, the overwhelming majority are much, much, much less.

wonder you are good you should get all the likes in the world you teaching is very easy
I love your videos, one of my favorites.❤❤❤
oh my gosh, this is awesome! I didn't realize the darker dyed and more intricate patterns were iced dyed and with powdered dye. So much time and a lot of precision, no wonder why they cost so much. Beautiful. Thank you for the video!
i dont mean to be offtopic but does anybody know a way to log back into an instagram account..?
I stupidly forgot the login password. I would love any tricks you can give me!
@Kamdyn Jaxon Instablaster ;)
@Aaron Valentino thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Aaron Valentino It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my account !
@Kamdyn Jaxon No problem =)
Excellent design ! Beautiful Tie dyed shirt !
I used both dye and liquid, and it came out super cool and vivid still. It was really dark though since I only used the primary powders (blue/red/yellow). If you don't like dark/deep colors, use liquid dye, or use light powders.
IMPRESIONANTE ........UN VERDADERO ARTISTA!!!!!
Thank you for your thoroughness and detail. Inspiring.
A mi me fascino!!! Como siempre te pasas.....chevere.
I would love to see a video of the exact fold and colors used on 2 different shirts. One ice dyed, and the other liquid dyed so we can compare.
Excellent video, as always.
It's on the "to do" list. I should be making a new "batch" of videos over the next couple of weeks and that will be one of the one's included. (I make a batch of 6-12 videos over 1-2 weeks and then drop a video each week until those are all public and then do another batch. So, this one should come out relatively soon.)
Great shirt!
Thank you.
What a wonderful video! Your voice was soothing and your instruction style was helpful.
lol, i was gonna question the $995 in the title, cool
Wow, that turned out amazing!
Very nice sir thanks your sharing love it.
جميل جدا شكرا لحضرتك استفدت منك
Wowww !!!!! Superb 👏👌👌👌😍
Thank you.
Looks like a glow worm! Nice job! Ty!
Gorgeous
Virtually all of the other tutorials on ice-dying put the ice down first and then sprinkle the dye on top of that. I was glad to see you do it this way, as it seems intuitively to be the better method. Any thoughts on the difference between the two? Have you done both and prefer this for some reason? Thanks! Beautiful work and great, instructive videos.
Dye first results in better control over the placement of the dye and you can keep the dye within the specific tied areas you want. Ice first results in a more organic/flowing design with the loss of the control over where the dye "lands" on the actual tied design. I use both methods - it just depends on what I'm looking to create. Though, I tend towards dye first as I prefer the control.
Excellent ! And such a beautiful outcome ! I really learn from your videos !
This is freaking beautiful!
Thank you.
what a awesome trippy shirt dude ✌️
what is this paint
I try this method so helpful not like mess ave been doing

Nice video ,thank you for sharing !
Is Soda ash the same as Washing Soda?
Yes, it is.
Nice. 👍
I donno what im doing wrong my colors are never sharp and fade really bad. I soak in soda ash, i am using jacard cold powder die and i wait 24 hours when i wash it in a machine do i use soap or no? And warm water or cold?
I rinse with cold water until the soda ash is out of the fabric and then switch to hot water. I use regular {cheap} soap in the washing machine with warm water.
Are you using true procion dyes? Or, is it a procion dye that has soda ash mixed in or a different brand of dye such as RIT?
@@CasualCollisions jacard proicon mx they sell on Amazon
amazing
Wow, I'm 63 years young and I grew up in the '60s and '70s, we use to razor our jeans so they would look more faded, lol, but I love your video, now that I'm finally sober, I would love to learn how to tie-dye and sell them, what kind of dye should I get, I tried to tie-die a shirt with bleach and nothing happened, maybe I need Clorox and 100 percent cotton? Thanks
brenda maynard what is this paint?
such a great masterpiece👏👏
Won't the dye come off if I wash it in the washing machine? Can someone help me? I'm planning to do it and I just saw something called "the dye stabilizer" so maybe I should also use that!?
No, if you use a quality Procion dye, it will not wash out. Some of my son's shirts have been washed over 100 times and there is very little fading.
You don't need a "dye stabilizer" with Procion dye. The soda ash bath prior to dyeing the material allows the Procion dye to chemically and physically bond with the fibers of the material.
Whats different in an ice dye compared to the other dyes?
Liquid dye blends with nearby liquid dye while ice dye breaks apart into it's component dye colors.
@@CasualCollisions interesting!
That's so inspiring
Hi, which type of colour or powder you are using, the name please. Thanks. From Canada 🇨🇦
www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/dharma-fiber-reactive-procion-dyes.html
my reds always fade out. How do I stop that. I soak in soda ash but they still wash out when I wash the item.
What color dyes do you think are an absolute necessity for people just beginning to use powder dyes?
You can never go wrong with primary colors: red (Chinese Red), yellow (lemon yellow), and blue (turquoise). You can add in black to add deep contrast with Better Black (it's the only black that works with cold water). Better Black is a 1 tsp:1 ounce ratio dye compared to most other dyes that are 1 tsp: 4 ounces (and turquoise containing dyes that are 1 tsp: 2 ounces water), so it's usually a good idea to buy Better Black in at least a 1 pound jar. Beyond that, begin to add to your collection with colors that you like.
The "primary" Procion dyes that are available from Dharma are: lemon yellow, golden yellow, deep yellow, deep orange, light red, fuchsia red, grape, sky blue, cerulean blue, cobalt blue, and turquoise. "Primary" Procion colors are the dyes are the pure unmixed single-hue dyes that will not split when ice-dyed.
Thank you so much.
Awesome
I'm impressed with your technique. I have never seen tie dye like this! I'm trying to learn how to do tie dye like this. You have really good skills!
Thank you. Your feedback is much appreciated.
Have you ever tried bleach ing a design using similar ways as these???
I haven't done any discharge dyeing in 3+ years. The last discharge dye I did was the video I posted about it.
Hi. What's the name of this product that you use to paint the t-shirts?
"Somewhat Flat" and "Straight as I can"...that's ME Whenever I'm simply Folding Clothes!
Can y'all say OCD/ADD??? LOLOLOLOL
the Celtic Crone what is this paint?
Dig it.
Que es ese polvo??
Oh boy this is wonderful. Love it. If I might trouble you with a question, when you wash in the washer at the end... is there need for salt for further dye setting, and do you repeat wash until the water is clear?
Thank you for all you do. Enjoy your vids so much.
No, I just wash it with an extra rinse cycle and dry. I've never had any of my work bleed after a single wash cycle. But, I'd recommend you test your shirts to make sure it's the same case for you.
Do you put your T-SHIRTS in a bag while you wait the 18-24 hours, before the wash?
I do not bag any of the shirts during the process; but, I also live in the South and the humidity rarely drops below 55%, so it's exceedingly rare for the humidity to be low enough for the material to dry out during the process.
How do you thicken the black dye?
And is it thickened to not blend with the other colors?
I use guar gum as it's readily available at most grocery stores.
It's thickened to not blend with other colors as well as to limit it's travel through the material so that you have more control over the placement of the dye.
Can I dye it with my regular fiber dye? I mean, I will not use the ice
Yes you can use liquid dye. The results will be quite different, though.
Con q tipo de pintura es
Trying this now, but without the ice
How did it turn out?
Como consigo las tintas ??? Como se llaman las tintas para hacer eso
They are Procion Fiber Reactive dye: www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/dharma-fiber-reactive-procion-dyes.html
We made these last night and love them!! The boys are so excited. We ended up using the regular water powder combo. How do i upload a pic?

That's a different way to do it, and wouldn't crushed ice work better than cubed ice?
I've always thought of our ice as quarter-moon not cube and while it can be annoying to place it at times, it far less annoying than spending the time to pull out the snow cone machine to grind ice into a fine powder. Would crushed ice work better with some designs? Yes; and, in some videos I do use crushed ice. But, that's not something most people have readily available in their homes -- at least in the quantity required for most ice dyes. So, I tend to stick with the ice out of the ice maker.
Is the shirt dry? Sorry if it’s been already answered
The shirt was dyed while it was still damp.
Sweet
One question what are does materials are you using for. Dye?

In the absences of ice dye can one used liquid dye?
For most designs, yes. Though the results will not have the same results. You can watch this video to see an example of liquid versus ice dye on the same pattern: ruclips.net/video/HgEpV905lpA/видео.html
@@CasualCollisions thanks
eres el mejor
cool
OMG... That's awesome!!!!!!...... :)
what about the colours? what they are called??
They should have all been mentioned during the video. If they weren't, the best I would guess is: lemon yellow, bright green, turquoise, brilliant blue, chinese red, bright orange, and possibly fire red.
All the videos I've published in the past 12 months have the dye colors visible on the video during the dye process as it would just be a guess after I put them away for each shirt.
Hi! I love your videos! I’m sorry if you’ve already answered this question, where do you order your t shirts from? I’m having trouble finding 100% cotton shirts
www.JiffyShirts.com
I use Gildan G200 and G500 and Jiffy Shirts offers free shipping on orders of $49 or more.
Casual Collisions Thank You!
Enorabuena por tu trabajo tan meticuloso, pero déjame, que me gustaría mucho saber tú idioma, por eso estaría mucho mejor sí lo pudieras traducir en español gracias saludos de Alicante España
What kind of paint you use for your t-shirts???
Procion Fiber Reactive Dye: www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/dharma-fiber-reactive-procion-dyes.html
I'm about to order a bunch of shirts from Jiffy. Can you be specific about the one you prefer to work with?
Gildan G200 or G500.
What did you say that you pre-soak the shirts in...
All of the shirts are pre-soaked in soda ash. That's required to allow the chemical bond to take place between the Procion dye and the cotton fabric.
Mashaallah very very fantastic
Interesting
Wow
Do you always flip it inside out? Why do you flip it inside out?
It's always flipped inside-out for ice dyeing so that when the powdered dye is applied, it doesn't leave visible "specks" on the outside of the shirt.
What type of tye dye do you use and where can get some?
I use Procion Fiber Reactive Dyes from Dharma Trading and Custom Colours: www.dharmatrading.com

what is this paint?
This looks so cool and beautiful! Really wish I could give it a go but I have tremors and nerve damage that makes gathering the fabric impossible like this. Kinda the reason I like tie dye, my tremors tend to make funky designs and it is hard to mess up classic tie dye designs 😂. This was really stunning though and would make a great dress or even 2 piece crop top and skirt set. ✌❤
Worst thing that can happen is you come up with a cool design! I say give it a try!!!
When you say you are putting it I. The machine, what do you do exactly?
I put the shirt in the washing machine - typically with several other tie dyes that have had their first wash-out. I use regular laundry soap and set the washing machine to "normal" with an extra rinse. After that completes, I run move the shirts to the dryer with a few dryer balls and a towel to speed up the drying cycle. When they are dry, I iron them just before they're photographed as the a freshly ironed tie dye will photograph with darker/more vibrant colors.
Casual Collisions thanks, my colours bled into the white parts when I tumble dried it. Do you put salt in your colours when mixing.
Why not use rubber bands?
Rubber bands are more difficult to work with and do not get as tight as sinew.
Hey man, can you do a how to do a pentagram in a t shirt? liquid dye please!
It's on the list.
Awesome job
Wow we don't Do dis back here in Nigeria tanks...
Have you ever skipped the ice and instead drizzle water over the dye powder?you’re getting very nice results and you teaching is excellent- I realize ice technique is Cool- but what magic does the ice actually do? Cheers

why do you turn your T-shirt inside out when you ice dye?
It's always flipped inside-out for ice dyeing so that when the powdered dye is applied, it doesn't leave visible "specks" on the outside of the shirt.
interesting. Thank you for replying. I love those specks. I encourage them in parts of my designs. However I also put my dye on top of the ice. I also usually dye cloth to be made into clothes.Next time I will try it your way to see the difference.

It's soaked in soda ash.
Lmao like the shirt but you did too much with the damn ruler😂😂😂
It helps to make everything symmetrical , I also use a yard ruler . You can definitely tell the difference when you just wing it to making ever line 2in apart 😊☮️
Verry
😎😍😍😍🤣
LoooL
That wash out goes into the ocean. You need to dispose of that dye properly.
The water goes through the sewer line and directly to the water treatment facility that's less than 5 miles away. After treatment it returns to a lake that's within the same 5 miles followed by a trip back to a water treatment facility and redistributed back into the homes.
