I think you are right. I like your setup. I think you have this fine tuned really well with everything hung in the same spot each time. I always run a second line for a ridge line on my non bugnet hammocks. I am always fighting get that perfect hang and angle. The double layer is an excellent idea!!!!! Thanks for a really helpful video!!!

Hey Bob. Your approach seems great to me. I still have the hammock that you made for me several years ago, and use it occasionally. I like the larger cord that you used for the whoopie line suspension. My daily use hammock nowadays is the Warbonnet RidgeRunner Bridge Hammock, due to my physical challenges it is easier than closed-end hammocks to get in and out of. Although, your method of tighter and higher hanging makes closed-end hammocks easier to maneuver.

It’s a trick question. If you can find the same distance in trees all the time, you’re good to go. Wait..,,,
I’d just do it the way you like it. Lol.
It doesn’t matter what anyone has to say about it, if it’s comfortable to you. I do like you’re fixed ridge line for the tarp. Great idea with the thermal blanket. The GoPro looks good too.

thanks scott , just wait until i reveal my heat blanket for the ridge line.. it keeps the still space under the ridge line almost 30 degrees warmer then the outside with zero condensation ..

Brother I learn something every time I watch this video!! I am going to see if I can incorporate some of this into my set up. I have 2 questions...do you have a fixed formula for setting up the fixed ridgeline? AND What do you use for sleeping gear as far as mats? Pad? Sleeping bags or quilts? Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. Happy New years!!

    • @billyjoedenny

the amsteal can be found at most boating stores , and plenty of vids on youtube for whoopi slings.. do some practice hangs at home until you dial it in gary..its the only way to go for heavy people like me..side note, get some rip stop nylon from a fabric store and make a good gather end hammock .. holds a lot of wait.. i do have a some videos on hammocks i have made ..the worlds strongest hammock.

I do a similar ridgeline for my hummingbird hammock. I don't get it that tight, but same concept. I'm not sure if there's a universal way to hang. Everyone is different and it needs to be comfortable for you

Hi Billy Joe ! How's it hangin' ? Oh, wait, you just showed us :D I'm not picky about how a hammock is strung up as long as the ropes don't break and my butt's not dragging on the ground. I just hung a couple hammocks inside of my backyard teepee this week..(planning to shoot a video tomorrow). It's nice when there are trees available to attach a hammock to...but that's not always an option. I had to reinforce the supporting poles inside my teepee in order for them to hold weight once someone gets into one of the hammocks. I may go to bushcraft hell for using 2 x 4 construction lumber to do my build (20 foot long saplings were not available)...but at least I won't be banging my head or putting an eye out with the pokey sticks that aren't always user friendly in debris shelters. For now, my ridge lines are quite "fixed" as they are wooden...meant to brace apart the teepee poles so they don't bow inward toward each other. I wouldn't say there is a right or wrong way to set up these contraptions as long as they hold weight. I just find it fun to do something that I don't see anyone else doing....kinda like you stretching a hammock setup all the way across the yard !! (all my long ropes are too stretchy to accomplish that...my butt would be on the ground) Reminds me of the Sesame Street kids show skit of "one of these kids is doing his own thing" mentality...not feeling limited just because there are seemingly incompatible circumstances. There are no trees inside my house...but I still found a way to hang a hammock between a couple of beams...so my daughter can watch TV above one of the couches (no ridge line). She likes hammocks :)

good way to hang. I like a tight hammock. None of this 30 degree angle stuff. I hang mine straight and stiff as a board, then when i get in it, the sag is just right for me.

Thanks for sharing your video. I'm new to hammocks, & I came across the "Ultimate Hang" hammock calculator looking to see how high to hang a hammock.
    theultimatehang.com/hammock-hang-calculator/
The fixed ridge line does not appear to change the height or tensions much. It just helps keep the desired hammock sag/droop more consistent.
The calculator shows that the common 30 degree hang with a person weighing 200 lbs yields about the same tension (200 lbs) on the suspension lines. Plugging in a 5 degree hang (close to horizontal) the calculator gives for the same 200 lb person a tension of about 1140 lbs. I wonder if this may have been a factor on why those smaller diameter whoopie lines broke? So, according to the calculator, hanging 5 degrees (about horizontal) increases the tension on the suspension and trees more than 5 times than if hanging by 30 degrees.
