We used to set those portable propane tanks up in front of a fire and shoot them. They aren't pressurized as much as these air tanks but they make a hell of a fireball.
You didn't chamber another round after you shot the .308 It's good practice to have that 2nd shot ready if needed. An air bottle can and will attack you if they are just wounded. But I think you just learned that important lesson.
I've got a 5000 PSI tank and I always feel like it's a grenade waiting to explode. This video makes me feel pretty good that not only are they pretty resistant to puncture, but when they do, they hold together quite well and don't fragment all over the place.
I know this is 5 years old, but shrapnel isn't the only thing that can will you! that shockwave can also do a number on your soft squishy organs like your brain.
Big City Honkers it's not the air that's dangerous, genius. if the metal suddenly failed due to that stress, it'll release the high-pressure air rapidly, which will throw shrapnel everywhere.
are you kidding me? what's air gonna do? I assume that's a troll comment... the concussion forces of HPA at close distance to a human body would be brutal.. the g shock of that rapid escape of highly compressed air is ABSOLUTELY violant... when a tank goes off its rarely throws shrapnel normally it just splits and causes a near instant release of compressed gas... that concussion is what causes fatality when tanks are over filled or a tank fails... that tank going off close to a human if it just let go and ruptured would be absolutely violant and likely would end in death... HPA is not something to be taken lightly... we was blowing up Co2 tanks by using are commercial 6000psi tanks and filling them while standing behind 3 inch thick lexan windows... at between 2600 and 2800 psi the tanks would bust... we ran solder down in the burst disks to the wouldn't bust... an aluminum tank going off at 2500ish psi is insanely powerful.. even the little 6oz tanks are flipping crazy when they let go... we want to set off some slightly damaged 80cf 3000psi tanks problem is 6000psi won't pop them we have tried... we have also found that over compressed helium at 3500psi ran in to the Co2 tanks they still pop at 2400 to 2600psi but the boom is MUCH MUCH MORE violent and the concussion is MUCH MUCH MORE intense... like 2x more violent... in fact even 20 feet away and behind the lexan blast shields it still gave 3 or the 4 people nose bleeds... it felt like we had been punched in the face by a boxer... that blast wave was no joke... I'll post some videos of us setting them off, remember a 3000psi tank is enough . set off Co2 tanks.. we have not had one that went 2700psi before I went off and most do it at between 2300 and 2500.. because if anyone decides to do it and remember if you fill them slowly that the valve will blow out at about 2600psi.. if you want the tank to rupture you need to fill it to 2000psi and then open the valve wide open then the tank will let go on the side splitting wide open... if you fill it to slowly and the valve let's go that valve comes out hard enough to blow slap through a 1980 Mazda car door and keep on going to we have no idea we couldn't find it.. point is don't think "air" can't kill it absolutely can..
Lol “ I was not expecting that AT ALL!” Me: You shot a 3500 fps pressure tank with a high powered air gun and you WEREN’T expecting an explosion… good lord!
Does make you wonder what one would be like if it broke due to compromised structure, all that energy was looking for the easiest way out which was through that hole the bullet made. But Id guess if there was say a structural fissure up the seam or such of the bottle it would burst open far more violently.
I would have been way farther away. Like 250 yards with the high powered rifle. And standing next to a damaged tank with 3500 psi in it made my hair stand up!
Probably sold at a bigger mark up to airgunners who don't know better. Also sad that he didn't just rehydro them and put a new o-ring kit in the valve.
Carbon or glass wrapped tanks new have always been around $150-200 depending on brand for 68/3000 and 38/4500 tanks. You might be thinking of used tanks or solid aluminum HPA tanks (~$90 USD) or far cheaper CO2 tanks. (~$25 for a 20 oz) I recall that some brands like Angel Air were around $250 before you even bought the regulator. Ditto for the smart parts branded tank. I have a 5k psi 50 ci Evil tank that was around that money to the original buyer.

I didn't think it would even penetrate those tanks. +22plinkster got very lucky not being struck one of those flying bottles. A very interesting exercise! Keep up the good work plink!
After shooting the tanks with the Texan, I was concerned when you were right next to the tank that was hit, as it was most likely dented and had potential for rupturing. The .308 finished the job. We now know that shooting at tanks charged with hpa is definitely a "do not try this at home" experiment. Your videos continue to entertain.
The action in this video was highly wreckless. I have been involved in the paintball industry for over a decade and a half and have personally seen what the misuse of these air tanks can do. 3000psi is no joke. Transport trucks and tractor tires carry 125psi, anyone ever been beside one as it bursts? Deafening, at the very least. A 68ci bottle like the one's in the video filled to 3000psi carries enough potential energy to kill a man, even at a reasonable distance. I bet some of that shrapnel flew apart from that tank at velocities greater than your CCI Stangers.
On a side note. Set up go pro, 68ci/4500psi tank filled to 4000psi , slather tank with 10w30, evacuate to 250+ yards and execute with .308...??? High pressure air+oil=explosion
Jeffrey Brooks i want to know what idiot filled them for him if they were already damaged. i know i wouldnt want to be the guy putting 3500psi into a sketchy tank. and a tractor tire will kill you if it bursts. my friends cousin worked for a tire service that specialized in tractor tires until he forgot to pay attention to the pressure and it exploded. he was decapitated by the rim and the other worker had broken ribs and ruptured eardrums from tire shrapnel and the blast pressure. they were changing a tire at a guys farm and did not have a cage around it while filling.
I did expect the first gun to pierce the tank but thinking about it, it makes sense that it didn't. The full bottles have a lot of compressive strength built up in the walls and the built is imparting a tensile stress to the surface.
I was trying to find out what rifle you had there (at 2:35 into the vide) the only thing I can figure is it's a Henry "Long Ranger" nice looking rifle (found where you were reviewing it on Henry's website)

as a fellow paintballer this is a bit scary if someone manage to detonate ther tank, cuple of weeks ago a rental fell and knocked of the hose on a tippmann and scared half his team when air leaked for a while.
Years ago the company that I worked for was loading a 40' trailer with oxygen and nitrogen cylinders to transport to a different location when a 10 cf cylinder with 1800 psi fell off the truck and broke the valve off of it,after hitting the ground it rebounded under the truck and hit so hard that 30,000 pounds of cylinders that were unsecured on the trailer all fell over. If you want to get a great video for You Tube keep on shooting compressed gas cylinders holding 3500 psi with high powered rifle, but put the camera in a concrete bunker so we all can see what happens when 10+# missile comes in your front side and exits through your spine at 200 MPH.
Yeah what is that? EDIT: It is a bug, after watching it again, you can see the bug fly past his right elbow, then when the shot is fired it flies up and to the left. I actually had to slow the video down to see it cause it happens so fast.
Too late, already tried it. Video on my channel. I used O2, though. Air is mostly Nitrogen, which is inert. If you step up to pure Oxygen, step back... a few hundred yards. Great vid! I don't care what the haters think, blowing stuff up is fun. Peace out!

Soooo cool! Awesome Video! I shot a small propane tank for camper stoves once and it surprised me too. Flew back towards us but off to the left. Landed waaaay further back than I estimated. Good times TIL someone says “it’s all fun n games....” lol
I know of a case where a large oxy tank (about 2500 psi) fell off a pickup. Valve caught the tail gate and busted off. The tank flipped around came up under the pickup, flipping the truck completely over. You need to know that 1 square foot of 2000 psi will lift 144 ton. I'm not saying, "don't do." But, like owning a firearm, know what you're doing before you pull the trigger.
I used to play paintball quite a bit, and I recall a couple horror stories involving tanks. One was a guy diving into a bunker snapped his regulator off, the tank went flying and broke a guy's ankle. I think there is a video of that one around somewhere. Another was at a kids birthday party. Someone lacking experience was unscrewing a tank from their gun, but instead of unscrewing the tank from the asa, they unscrewed the tank from the regulator. It shot across the room and hit the kids mom in the face. It ended up killing her. That kind of pressure is no joke.
That was awesome!!!! A fire SCBA would be sick to try. 4K psi in the bottle and the 45 minute bottles are huge. You would definitely want to be far back
I have a carbon tank for paintball that's past its 15 year service life and I wanted to shoot it. I'm really glad you did this! Don't get me wrong, I'm still gonna shoot it. 200yrds and a 30-06 though.
After your first shot, how long did you wait before approaching the bottles? I'm considering a delayed reaction scenario. What you did look like fun, thanks.
Firefighters wear a SCBA that has 4500psi on their back. I've always wondered what would happen if someone took a shot at a SCBA. Very educational and entertaining. Thank you.
It takes velocity to penetrate thick metal. Not big, heavy, low velocity slugs. Enjoyed your video! Kinda reminds me of some of the dumb things I used to do when I was a young man.

the odds of getting those pirouettes on cam ... priceless
Soooo cool! Awesome Video! I shot a small propane tank for camper stoves once and it surprised me too. Flew back towards us but off to the left. Landed waaaay further back than I estimated. Good times TIL someone says “it’s all fun n games....” lol
how many 22s will it take ?
I won't do it at home, I will do it at a friend's house. Got you on the word play
The slow motion of the last tank spinning was wicked ahh nice
Salute to you. You have the guts!
thankful you didn't get hit with shrapnel. That had enough energy to send the whole bottle near you pretty quick.
I'd love to see what would happen if those tanks were filled to the rated 4500psi. Great video bud
2:51 22plinksters shitting himself like fuuuuuck it's coming this way lmao cool video 👍
Great footage!!
Smarter everyday would have a blast with this video
SCBA bottles are filled now to 5500 psi, there’s a reason we fill them inside a 1/2” steel blast chamber
Would that be a henry long ranger? And if so, any chance of an upcoming review on it?
After your first shot, how long did you wait before approaching the bottles? I'm considering a delayed reaction scenario. What you did look like fun, thanks.
"now I have a 308 full metal jacket" ... that escalated quickly lol
Should have tried to 40gr 22lr 😏
2:48 "HO...LY COW ha ha ha ha!!!"
Look at that air bottle roll around like it doesn't know where to go!
WOW! Cool to see the Henry in action besides in a review :)
Cool video! Thanks for sharing!
That bottle came back to attack you! Very cool stuff here!
what was the orange piece flying back at 1:30
was that the bullet coming back at 1:30????
So much for the feather, run, run!
awesome video man. but why didn't you shoot the last one?
very cool and funny video! thx!
In Myth Busters the team always stands behind a blast screen because you can never predict an explosive outcome. You were very lucky dude.
Firefighters wear a SCBA that has 4500psi on their back. I've always wondered what would happen if someone took a shot at a SCBA. Very educational and entertaining. Thank you.
Thanx, that was truly BADASS ...!!
You are crazy bro ,love it
It takes velocity to penetrate thick metal. Not big, heavy, low velocity slugs. Enjoyed your video! Kinda reminds me of some of the dumb things I used to do when I was a young man.
Awesome slow-mo !!
What about the third bottle, did it break or was it unharmed?
What equipment to you use to record the slow motion clips?
shooting propane tanks gives you the same effect, there really sketchy but really fun to shoot.
Great slow motion on the tanks after the .308 hit!
The tank that was coming towards you was bouncing 😂
Is that a Henry long ranger you used?
Brett R yes
+22plinkster your a bitch
