your videos are extremely helpful however they don't come up often when doing a RUclips search for homeschool Australia videos luckily I found your channel again
Oh sorry! I think it's because it is such a new channel. It's picking up traction however and will hopefully be more popular soon. Thank you for the encouragement though!
One of the BEST videos to explain Deschooling that I have seen. Thank you, Bec! 💯🥰
My pleasure dear freind! How are you doing?
@@howtohomeschool Doing well! I hope you are doing well, too!
I wish I had known this 2 years later!
I know! It's a big thing, but something I find myself preaching in every homeschool 101 video!

I really enjoy your videos. Lovely to see an Aussie doing this. BJU press sounds interesting....do you have a vid that details it a little bit more?..have a 5 year old to teach reading....I liked the idea of having a set of readers to work with....
Your so kind!
Haha. Why do you say that?
@@howtohomeschool because I have a hard time learning at school because of being bullied constantly, but when I watch your videos I am at peace at it makes my day better!
I feel like this would work great for younger children. Not so much for high school kids. Example. If I let my daughter stay up a little later to read or something she’ll get on her phone till she finally passes out late at night and she’ll sleep all day.
I have been homeschooling a certain way for a while and it’s a traditional type of schooling. And I want to change it completely to something else but I feel like that could require some deschooling to introduce dramatic change especially if the kids are burned out.
Yes. It's honestly the best thing to do with burnout. We often think the kids get 'behind' but the main thing is to keep things fun. And interesting..if it's fun, you can't stop them learning!
Hi. Thanks for your videos. Im wondering why deschool when you are using BJU which is a very traditional. Id love to hear your thoughts
You're deschooling from a school institution...not from a traditional curriculum. Does that make sense
How does deschooling work in regards to being registered with the government? How long can we take off before we officially start our curriculum?
It really hugely depends on what state you're in. If you're in a relaxed one is much easier and you can do what you want. If you're not, you need to marry it with reporting requirements. In my state, which is relatively strict, the look at the overall year. So you could take a few months off and then go full steam ahead for the rest. You can also chat to the government ppl who are helpful and understanding.
Try some science fiction:
A Fall of Moondust by Arthur C Clarke
Citizen of the Galaxy by Robert Heinlein
Omnilingual by H Beam Piper
Fiction can be a great way to get kids thinking and relax them while also educating.

Educating about what? That is why I said SCIENCE Fiction. I do not mean junk like STAR WARS. Trek isn't much better.
A Fall of Moondust by Arthur C Clarke
Clarke used Plato's Allegory of the Cave to explain reality via infrared. Not your average educator.
Do you recommend doing this with a preschooler whose going into kindergarten
No. They're already deschooled. A preschooler should only have play for thier curriculum anyway :)
