I just want to say it’s not just seniors that need this kind of yoga. I’m recovering from an injury and I love yoga and I’ve practiced yoga for years…seeing these kinds of videos had been nourishing and supportive.
I'm 29 but after having long covid for over half a year and not being able to exercise, this is still really helpful to get some basic flexibility back. I can't fully workout yet, other than walking and doing easy, low impact exercises like this
Nanci this is an effective yoga practice not only for senior but for people sitting during prolonged period in offices, schools or during travel in the airplane. This actually reduces stress and strain in body by different stretching postures with regular deep breathing. Thank you so much for sharing this practice with all and looking forward to the next too. 🌟🌟🌟
i dont mean to be offtopic but does someone know of a method to get back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb forgot my password. I love any assistance you can give me.
I love Part I and Part 2 of Nanci's Seated Yoga for Seniors. Each is only about 15 minutes and so it makes it easily doable most every day. I am 71 and don't do any other regular exercise so this is great for me! Thanks Nanci, good job!
I’m not a senior but I am in a wheelchair & I really appreciate this video! It was very helpful and I will be including this in my Yoga routine. Thank you! ❤️
I'm so happy to hear that this is a helpful and useful video for you. Please feel free to reach out to me and offer any constructive criticism regarding how I can help the various populations with any kind of disability or injury. I'm easy to find on social media due to the spelling of my name. :-)
This is great for those of us who are now teleworking - When I get a bit of brain fog, I stop and do the streches in my office chair and it gives me a new outlook. I am not very flexible so hoping this will help remedy.
Exactly why I searched and ended up here. My aunt basically had the rug pulled out from under her as far as physical therapy cancelled which resulted in a nurse no longer coming to help her. Researching how yoga can replace it at least for now.
Thank you! I just completed Part 1. Very nice for us seniors. I am used to working out at the gym but the gym is closed for a month due to the COVID-19 shutdown. I thought I would try something new. I’ll be back here tomorrow!
I needed chair exercise and then a chair yoga today, short ones. I have chronic pain issues that stem from Osteoarthritis that is widespread thru my body including whole spine, scoliosis and Fibromyalgia to name a few. I wanted to research out of my normal zone of people who I normally use and found this to be nice stretching, however I believe the shoulder stretches were a tad too much but I know to modify from my past career in physical therapy and didn't. Thank you for this yoga stretching! @PsycheTruth
Thank you for this series of yoga stretches. I am 62, a musician, and I've found that as I get older, I need to have more stretching breaks when I'm practicing guitar etc. This has been very helpful, thank you. What company makes the red top you're wearing in this video? It's very pretty and looks real comfortable.
I'm new to your website, Nanci, and since Sundays are exercise rest days I usually turn to chair Yoga and other stretching routines. I was so delighted and pleased by your detailed instructions, your choice of positions, and your encouragement to tailor the positions to the individual's abilities. Thank you for starting my Sunday feeling open, loose, and contemplative!...Anastasia
Loved this, I had a left hip replacement so it’s not as flexible as my right, I can put it across my right knee but couldn’t bend down while doing it. Thank you
Thank you, most of this is great. Knees are such an issue for many and why we can't be on the floor or in a bent position, so the exercise with knee bent over leg is probably not a great option for some.
Excellent stretch for morning wake up or bedtime relaxing. Not too much talking at all, you have to guide people to do the poses correctly so they are not hurt. Thank you for making this video.
Thank you for the lovely video! Please, what subtitutions would your recommend for the forward fold at 9:36 (an abundant waist and a fragile back)and the ankle to knee at posture at 10:35 (just very stiff, its hard to bring the ankle to the level of the knee)?
Thanks a lot, Madame, my problem is that I cannot sit down and to cocntinue my yoga exercices. You showed mi that it is possible to do it on the chair too. Thanks again!
This is really helpful. Thanks so much. By the way, I'm in Italy, little north of Rome on lovely lake Bracciano. I'd love to send you a picture but seemingly not possible
That's perfect for me right now although I'm on my twenties because my knees hurt me so I'm not able to do normal yoga poses on the floor. Thanks for sharing that routine with us.
Thanks Nanci! My 89 year old mother and I Do this program 3 times a week and it brightens our days. Thank You! I have a question about the pose where you squat off the chair. Is that basically a squat you are doing with the chair for support?
Love this! Glad I discovered you. I have had hip and knee replacements so chair yoga is perfect as I cannot do any poses lying on the floor. In the pose where the ankle is drawn up on the knee I can only do my right leg, as the left leg has poor ROM due to hip surgery. What is a good way to adapt the pose for my left leg? Thank you so much!
It's been a long time since my last yoga class, but what I was taught was that besides being aware of the breathing, you should take time to notice your muscles as you move into a pose and as you hold it. If you can pose the one ankle, notice where you feel the stretch and then for the other side, lift the ankle up along the shin bone as high as it will go, acknowledging the same muscles as the ones you felt stretching on the other side. According to my teacher, the conscious awareness of and appreciation for your muscles causes them to be more flexible, as much as the movement itself does. I'm not going to advise you to do this, because I'm not a yogin, but I would probably use my hands on my ankle to position my leg closer to the point where it's supposed to be, remembering to keep the spine open. In yoga stretches, it's important to feel the beginning of pain and to stretch to the point just before the pain starts: that's always the therapeutic spot, regardless of the contour of your goal pose. And you hold to the point just before the point of pain, and then relax, regardless of how long you're advised to hold (presuming you're ready to quit before your teacher is, especially.) If not THE primary purpose, then at least ONE of the primary purposes of yoga is to increase your awareness of and comfort in your body. I guarantee that if you accomplish that, the rest will follow.
Hi Renee! I just noticed this post and your question. If you have a yoga strap or a pretty tight stretchy band, or even a thick scarf, you could probably hook it around your left ankle and just draw the leg up toward the right knee, but not too high. Make sure that you are rotating at the left hip, even if it is only a little bit, and don't let the rotation happen around the knee joint on the left, since the knee is not designed to rotate that way. If this doesn't work, you could do this stretch while lying on the floor. if you have further questions you could follow me on instagram @yogarat46 and send me a message. I could always send you a quick video or picture of some other options.
I’ve been in a lot of pain. Trying to figure out which doctor to go to but I have to say that this felt really good. Thank you. I would like to know if this should be done more than once a day, for how many days and as someone else asked how do I find the following stages of this yoga program. ❤️
I am 87 years old and this chair yoga keeps me flexible. The only exercise that gives me problems is the last one where you hold your arms up in front of your face. This seems to be too long. I wonder if anyone else has that problem or it is just me.
I’m a stroke survivor I’ve been trying to find some sort of seated yoga I can do in my wheelchair I was able to do this today but some of the arm stuff I have to help my affected arm with.
PART # 2 . . . FOUND!!! It needs to be titled the very SAME as this one except with 'part 2' added, FYI. Here is link for others to easily find: ruclips.net/video/pgWydhvYJpY/видео.html

I have MS and need exercises that can be done IN a chair, rather than WITH a chair. So these are lovely, thanks.
At 70 this is so important for me. I’m still going to the gym 3 days a week. I do chair yoga between sets. Eliminates “dead air” time. Blessings🙏
This is great for those of us who are now teleworking - When I get a bit of brain fog, I stop and do the streches in my office chair and it gives me a new outlook. I am not very flexible so hoping this will help remedy.
This was very helpful and after doing a couple of workouts I was moving more fluently. Thank you so much!
For seniors sheltering in place against Covid-19, this is extremely helpful. Namaste!
Exactly why I searched and ended up here. My aunt basically had the rug pulled out from under her as far as physical therapy cancelled which resulted in a nurse no longer coming to help her. Researching how yoga can replace it at least for now.
Namaste!
This is really great for me as a person who has had multiple physical trauma. I don't have to try and get on to and off of the floor!
Thank you! I just completed Part 1. Very nice for us seniors. I am used to working out at the gym but the gym is closed for a month due to the COVID-19 shutdown. I thought I would try something new. I’ll be back here tomorrow!

Hello JB
Nanci, This is just what I have been looking for. Easy to follow, gentle, and will surely help with pain. Thanks for doing this.

Wonderful and super insightful/informative.
Definitely easy for anyone to follow.

It is forbidden to ask, but this lady, at whatever her age, has the body A LOT of women don’t even have in their late 20s or 30s! It’s amazing! 😮

I feel so good after this stretches. Ahh...
I should do it more often though,. I am totally inflexible. I am amazed seniors can do this.

Wonderful stretch, focus on breathing a plus. Thank you from Charlie in Syracuse NY
Truly enjoyed all of the great stretch and optional movements. Thanks.
Thanks a lot, Madame, my problem is that I cannot sit down and to cocntinue my yoga exercices. You showed mi that it is possible to do it on the chair too. Thanks again!
I saved this for after my hip replacement next month.
This is really helpful. Thanks so much.

Nanci this chair is technically not correct for you.
Heels should touch floor
Sometimes this hard to do when I'm achy
