  • @BluegrassRoze

Very similar to mine and mama’s cornbread dressing, but we cook our celery and onions in plenty of real butter.
You really need to let your gravy simmer at least 5 minutes on low heat, after adding the liquid or it will have a “pasty” flavor. Whether it’s country gravy or brown gravy or giblet gravy, if it has flour in it, it has to simmer awhile. The flavor is so worth those extra few minutes!

She did that until her sage died out (it was some she got from her
Mama's house) that's been about 6 years ago. Sadly she passed away also @ age 96, last year in September, the last of her family.

Your video brings back wonderful memories of days gone by 💕
On my goodness Tammy your such an amazing person & an exceptional cook 👍
My Mamaw & momma made the cornbread dressing & giblet gravy ! There both in heaven now & if I had one wish it would be to gather at granny’s home with all our family & celebrate
    These beautiful occasions ❤️
It’s been some years since I’ve made from scratch cornbread dressing & I believe I’ll make it this year & I’ve always made the giblet gravy
    I’m getting hungry 😋
    Have a blessed day ❤️

My mother in law did 16 cups day old bread, pinched & layed out night before, with giblets & more pepper than you would think was necessary. But it is delicious & my husband sure loves it like a meal all by itself!
Your cornbread dressing is more up my alley.
I will try this. Thank you for sharing, Tammy.

This is exactly how I make my dressing minus the eggs. I learned the recipe from my Nanny and she did use eggs, so I don't know why I do it that way.

@@southerngrandma4353 I like it moist, too, and mine is, without eggs. I have never put canned soup in my dressing, but I would eat it . I also like oysters in dressing, and I like sausage and cranberries in dressing and I would eat eggs in dressing! I don’t make cornbread dressing but I eat it 🤣. I just plain old love dressing 🤣😂 Have an awesome week🥰

Your cooking is a lot like mine. There is a restaurant here in Tennessee that has a 4,layer cake..it's raspberry white chocolate! I would love to have the recipe. This cake has 2 layer of a cheese cake and a great icing that isn't too sweet! I would love to know if anyone has a recipe similar to this? ! Love your cooking but you have made me hungry☺️ lol I'll take a plate... yummy!💕

You can overdo sage you don't want it to overpower your cornbread dressing. I cook a cornbread dressing the way my mother made it. It was green onions, celery, green bell pepper. Next thing would be to saute the ingredients with butter.
I'll use turkey broth from a couple of turkey wings that's been baked in the oven. Take the drippings and add water to the turkey wings and let it simmer. You're probably saying, why should you bake it, then simmer it in water. Baking will give more broth flavor. If I don't use the turkey wings I use what they call Better Than Bouillon turkey base in a jar made with roasted turkey. Sometimes, I use poultry seasoning with sage, but being very careful on how much to put in your dressing. Cornbread dressing is a Southern dish.

I am from KY. I have never seen anyone add cornmeal to gravy. I have only seen gravy made with flour, cornstarch or arrowroot. I always use flour unless I am thickening beef stock from a roast. Then I will add a cornstarch slurry. My family always made dressing using loaf bread, onions, celery, raw eggs, poultry seasoning and chicken stock. When I got married 32 years ago, my husbands Mom and Grandma made their dressing using just baked biscuits, celery, onion, poultry seasoning, sage and chicken broth. It too me several years before I decided that I like it. We have neither ever eaten cornbread dressing unless we went to a friends house who made cornbread dressing. I have never eaten dressing with boiled eggs in the dressing or the gravy. It is interesting to see how differently people cook from different areas of the US. I consider KY a southern state but we cook much differently than Tammy's mama and grandma did.

Hi Tammy & Chris, I had to come see how you made momma's dressing. I make dressing like your granny but I use 12 biscuits 3 pans of cornbread, sage and turkey drippings like 2 cups and 8 eggs and mix well with hands. It makes alot but we were a family of 9 and there was enough for us to have leftovers at least once. She make giblet gravy the same but added meat from neck and no milk. Clear (almost) gravy for dressing. I'm wanting some now. Thanks soo much for sharing.

Watching you make cornbread stuffing was like being there. I think we like it cold or hot. The gravy with giblets tastes good. I put my giblets cooked in the food processor on pulse. Fun to hear everyone's way of making their own.
