Many years ago in the 80’s I took my daughter who was in the 11th grade to NYC attend a summer program at Barnard women’s college. Later that summer I returned to pick her up and we hung around The City and on Sunday walking in the village, I bought my first Dove bar off a vendor and I spotted Gregory walking and looking in windows. It was just about noon but there were not a lot of people of the street. My daughter and one of her friends was with us. We literally followed him. They had no idea who he was so there behavior was that he was not important and that was great for me… I couldn’t disturb him… it was his time alone. So at the corner we went the opposite way! Handsome elegant man!
He had talent like nobody has had since. Gregory Hines could sing, dance, act, do comedy and was an historian. He was a master who loved his craft and it showed.
Fabulous Gregory, they should have given him a standing ovation on that. There is no one better at tap than Gregory Hines. Not even the old timers. Rest in Peace.
Truly TRULY A GREAT!!! MISS YOU MR. HINES I WISH I COULD HAVE SEEN YOU IN PERSON!! Watched you when you and your father and brother were on Ed Sullivan, you and Maurice were kids. I wish you could hear me...much love and respect💖💖❤❤💋
He was a true jazz percussionist with his beautiful feet, and a great singer as well. I would have loved to see him dance and sing with the Manhattan Transfer....they could have done sonething together that would have raised the roof. And, he had such a personality. A complete showman, a teacher, self-deprecating, funny, an historian....a beautiful soul. R.I.P., Sweet Prince. I hope I meet you some day, in another life.
He was influenced by Sammy Davis Jr and he perfected his influencer's art like no other. I still haven't seen anyone who does tap dance like Gregory Hines; he will be sorely missed. RIP legend 🙏🏼
One of my favorite pieces by one of my favorites of all time. Got to see him live many times, met him several times, even had him bring me and a couple friends backstage for pictures once. An almost flawless performer, an almost flawless human being. When I think of him now, it's still a shock when I have to remind myself that he really did die, and so young. It's like my brain won't let me think of him as being gone. In my mindset, he's still alive and performing somewhere, and still wowing people. That's a nice legacy to leave behind.
THIS WAS A GREATTTT PERFORMANCE !!! AND THEY JUST SAT THERE CLAPPING AND NEVER STOOD UP FOR THE BROTHER!! DAMMMMM SHAME!!! THEY WILL NEVER GET THAT KIND OF PERFORMANCE AGAIN!!!
It sometimes saddens me when I watch him. Our school closed that one day to pay tribute for our loss, when God called him home. I will always be grateful to God for being in Barbara class all the times Gregory Hines walked in and joined my us. They are both inspiring. I couldn't help but give Barbara a card when we lost Gregory Hines. They danced a lot together. I am glad Barbara remains to teach even today! God bless her and all the strength she puts into her classes. We are all grateful to her!
Love Gregory Hines, which is why I watched the video. However, there was no mention in the description that John Williams directed the orchestra! (At least I think it’s him.) For those that don’t know, he wrote the music for Star Wars and pretty much every great movie score during the 1970’s through the 1990’s. Two greats!
I saw this when pbs rain it the first time, Does ANYONE have a copy of this whole show Gregory with the Boston Pops. That night he sang ' As long as I live' and brought tears to my eyes. I do have the audio from that show but I would love to see this show again
I'm sure it is, but you just do not see it anymore on television. Unless you are watching a movie or sitcom that shows tap dancing. I enjoyed watching people tap back in the day. Sammy Davis Jr was one of them.

Gregory Hines was so awesom!!
He said some awfully nice things about Eleanor Powell as did his mentor Fayard Nicholas!

What an amazing, musical, charming, handsome, talented, actor and dancer. I miss him.
Truly a talented man he was. So talented in so many ways. We sure lost a great one.
I will never not be blown away by Gregory Hines' talent.
Fabulous Gregory, they should have given him a standing ovation on that.

A standing ovation was past deserved...he should have been honored as a GREAT!👑💎🌠
Yes he was great but there are some others who were just as good. Like Sammy DAvis Jr. and Clark Gable etc.

Happy 70th birthday, today, Mr. Hines. You are sorely missed.
Hard to believe he's been gone almost 20 years now... Such a great talent!

I miss him so much. I grew up with Hines, Hines and Dad on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Gregory Hines was a unique talent. The world was a smaller place when he died.

Tap dancing is a lost art.
I couldn't agree more. You know what they say, if it was good then, it is good now. The sad thing about it is people nowadays overlook that.
3:36 Talent is like medicine; it comes with side effects.
My gosh he had style unlike anyone before or since!! Guy was a genius!
One word- AWESOME.
Loved him
one of my favourite songs. 🌺
Miss him so much.
My biggest regret in life-so far, I never get to see Gregory live.
昨今のガキのロボットダンスとは一線を課す素晴らしさ。絶賛。
You got the moves Gregory!
Absolutely extraordinary.

goooooooooooooood!!!
What happened to tap dancing?
I love the movie Tap & Running Scared with Gregory Hines.
It's still around! Just a little harder to find on tv, sad. Dule Hill, Savion Glover, it's still a thing.
I'm sure it is, but you just do not see it anymore on television. Unless you are watching a movie or sitcom that shows tap dancing. I enjoyed watching people tap back in the day. Sammy Davis Jr was one of them.
That's true. Variety shows were all over the place in the 70s and 80s, which were such a good showcase for tap.
We still have savion glover
What about White Nights? And The Tic Code?
Incorporou Samy Daives Jr. Linduu e Bosangles
Is conductor john Williams?
Yes
Yes
He is still my favorite. Was that Margaret Thatcher in the audience?
Who are the 15 lonely souls who disliked this?
i wanna help.
InstaLike!
Never seen him better! What about that conductor? With some work, he could amount to something.
choreobantic I'm here to see what you did there.
I know!
how did you do it can you share with me , thank you
Nice
I'd like t o buy some rhythm please. A big bag full.
He is missed tremendously.
Wonder what was he saying when he was tapping??
Is it just me ... or does the conductor look like BTK?
Man, that's Kanye West on piano...
