This might sound weird but I saw him in a local supermarket in LA and from a short distance I saw him go through the door behind the meat and fish counter to say hello to the guys working there. You could tell by the hello he received that they knew him and obviously adored him. It was such a moment of pure goodness and kindness. I’m sorry if I fail to express the emotion I felt by what an outstanding person Gregory Hines was. Just a pure instinctive kind of moment where you realize this is not just an outstanding talent but a wonderful person as well. Terrible loss, way too young. An inspirational man.
I saw the last banquet / performance honoring Sammy Davis Jr. (Highly recommend his biography, "Yes I can"). Hines was performing, finished, and Sammy started walking to the stage. Not planned. He was very weak, but with every step closer to the stage he gained strength. Fabulous short performance. Hines got down and kissed his feet. Then Sammy walked back to his seat and with every step became weaker. He died just 6 months later. P.S. In his biography Sammy mentions he went into vaudeville with 2 uncles. In one part of the book, he wrote that later he realized his uncles sometimes went without food so they could feed him. 💕💕
GOD spoils us by giving us one of somethings.....and when they are gone we hurt because sometimes we want to keep them here so bad that we don't have to talk about them past tense.....RIP...MR. HINES!!!! YOU ARE MISSED
I remember watching this with my grandfather. This was a 2 hr NBC special dedciated to then Apollo Theater. They had some amazing performances that night including El Debarge, Sammy Davis Jr., Sandman, Debbie Allen, Phylicia Rashad, etc. It was hosted by Bill Cosby.
I adore this man and his dancing talent, which are extraordinarily underrated. I am a huge fan of White Nights, but am still frustrated that Mikhail's talents are praised more than Gregory's. I have been trying without success to find a video that shows a piece in the early part of the film that showcases Gregory Hines talent--I know it's there but cannot find a video to back me up. If ANYONE with more computer expertise can introduce this much needed piece of beauty to RUclips, we will ALL be better for it. Thanks!
Gregory Died too young Wonderful tap dancer I remember watching him in a film called White Nights in 1985 with Mikhail Baryshnikov 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️🏴🏴🏴🏴
He was the best. Lovely man, so handsome too. I couldn't stand that show Will & Grace but watched it when he was on. I would watch anything with Gregory Hines!! Wonderful actor, great comedic timing as well.. Gone way too soon. RIP Mr. Hines.
I remember when he passed I was staying at a hotel and they dropped the news paper at my door it read Gregor Hines passed away man he was a great dancer he is definitely missed
He was amazing, so talented. I loved him in white nights, they were two totally different style of dancers and both amazing. My list is the Nicholas brothers, Bill Robinson, Fred Astaire and Gregory Hines all amazing men
Memory memoir magic, we have all got to make the most of the best of memories in this life that is of sin. Rather alone for in ourselves or with everyone.
Very Amazing! I’m thinking the one person that unliked this video has no feet. Sorry about that, but learn to TAP on your hands. Then, maybe you might be able to give a thumbs up.
I think TAP is underrated. Seems this dance style doesn't get much press. Rarely featured in entertainment (TV shows or film). Only recall Samie Davis Jr being the other BIG NAME tap dancer from before Gregory HInes. Clearly it takes immesne skill and i don't htink it's "made up on the spot" (as Im sure some might think).... Loved the concept of White Knights--2 of the "best" dances in teir own styles paired in a combination spy/dance movie...which WOrKED. though they never tried to get Gergory to do ballet....Barishnakov's forte....claim to fame....
I hope there is a child out there who wants to grow up and be like Gregory Hines R.I.P.!
Hopefully. I think Zavion Glover studied with him before he, Gregory Hines, died.
@@Caramel1806 yes Savion is carrying the torch now & teaching & proliferating the knowledge & footwork forward!!!!
Multitudes of them.

Savion glover!

Love Gregory Hines. He introduced me to Savion Glover. Miss Gregory fiercely but Savion helps.
I'm doing him for my Black History Month project! *I wanna be like him now*

This amazing man died way too young. He was so effortless.
He was amazing, so talented. I loved him in white nights, they were two totally different style of dancers and both amazing. My list is the Nicholas brothers, Bill Robinson, Fred Astaire and Gregory Hines all amazing men
Gregory Hines, what a very talented man. The dancing moves are so wonderful, and just gliding on the floor.
