Just picked up a lightly used pair of these. This was very helpful! I learned a lot about my boots and how to take care of them down the line. Thank you!
I also like your long videos. You explain everything which I really enjoy. This is stuff you can't get just anywhere. Please ignore the comments that suggest your videos could be shorter. Folks can always skip
Good work on those AE boots, and the Dainite soles do suit the boot better than the Vibram sole but if it were me, I would just live with the Vibram soles until they wore out, than replace with a Dainite sole, or a less aggressive Vibram. Also, rather sad how your customer ruined his boots by painting them grey.
I recommend the same but the gentlemen is older and felt more comfortable with the Dainite. At least there are a lot of great options for everyone to pick from.

Wow, loved the tour to the stitching machine! Thanks for all those details. Hearing you talk all those different needles to order, blade to adjust etc. is that extra info i was looking for. Keep it up!!

@@CobblersPlus I have 2 pairs of Daltons so far, but from what I am seeing, basically I am turning my Daltons into sort of a Longbranch boot as soon as I get them by replacing the leather sole with Vibram lug soles so I don’t tear up the soles outdoors. I went to the AE website to see about ordering a pair of Longbranch, but all they have are black ones in a size 8 and I need a 12, and only wear brown leather in the daytime, lol
Would it be possible to reuse the soles that you removed ? On the leather heels I always like the how natural leather color looks instead of the colored edge dressing. Do they make edge dressing in clear ?
The sole itself can’t be reused but if your are talking about reusing the heel block that’s no problem we usually try to save the originals but this pair didn’t have a leather heel block before. As for the color option we can do the clear no problem.
One question if it could be answered. I saw some shoes (Allen Edmonds) with Dainite soles and as you said they were top stitched with no channel. My question is, how do you protect the stitching from fraying or eventually tearing before you get them resoled? And could a channel be placed in if a cobbler restitched them? Thanks.
There isn’t a way to protect the stitches unfortunately when it’s a top stitch and really what holds the sole on at that point is just the glue. A channel stitch can be added but only during the resoling process at a reputable cobbler who will do it. Factory recrafting from AE and other brands will not channel stitch them as well as a hand full of cobblers so if you want the stitches on your new Dainite soles to sit inside a channel you would have to take or ship it to a cobbler that will do it.
Yes it will because the wax doesn’t bind with the oils in the leather. The oil works great to protect itself but still a good idea to re-oil them from time to time. Just did a video on the Saphir oiled leather cream that you would use on CXL
@@CobblersPlusTY for mentioning this about Long Branch! I had been using Saphir Pommadier Cream Shoe Polish for mine which contains waxes. Even the AE page for Long Branch says to use polishes in the "care" section and I never would have known otherwise!
Funny. I used to think those were the best soles for my splean recreation. NASA has told people like me what we do with our feet has future use on moons and other planets. I now only use lace-up with no metal hooks as they get bent too often. My present boot choice has the biggest mud lug soles in North America. Armored, also, so I escape cuts, bruises, and impalement.
@@actontreadway1168 admittedly, yes. I then went and bought Dainite soles and broke into a Walmart Pharmacy, only to find out their floors are linoleum so I didn't need the soles to begin with

Thanks for the most engaging and informative video on shoe repair that I have seen.
Excellent information. Your editing will improve in time, but nothing to worry about. The info is golden!
Great video you are an artist in this craft......I own a pai of these and would not do that unless they were worn down...I really like the vibrum too
Great video, should one lways choose to have the stitches go through the sole as well? What are the pros and cons for stitching through the sole?
Stitching them the soles don’t come undone if the glue comes undone. But non stitched usually can save money on the next resole
Thank you for sharing your good work with us.
How do you know if you are hitting the old stitch holes in the welt with the machine stitch? Interesting transformation. Thanks for the video.
It’s all about feel. There isn’t a guaranty if it will hit the original hole but with practice you get close to getting every stitch in

I like dalton personally

How much for this service on the same boots, Allen Edmonds Long Branch? I don't particularly care for the gumlite sole either.
Usually it’s about $150 for this conversion.

lug soles with wingtips... kind of like wearing a neon vest with camouflage
Do you use a solvent when resolving shell cordovan shoes?
I try to avoid it but sometimes we have to add some to just the stitched area when there is just to much glue
For future videos I would suggest a shorter run-time, and a good walk-through of the finished product for us to admire! Thanks!
Excellent video. Having a pair of these this was good info.
Danites my favorite city sole
how the hell are you supposed to commit crimes with soles that stand out as much as these? especially in the snow?
An honest question for sure....But is that the first thing you thought of when you saw them?

There are far better shoes than aldens, the Edward greens for instance. Either way he can only show what comes in.
