I sent all 3 into the official Luminox repair center and they confirmed that all 3 were authentic Luminox watches. But since Amazon is not an authorized reseller, they weren’t covered under warranty. They offered to fix them for me at their standard repair rates. Luminox told me that if they were not authentic, they would not be allowed to repair them. So once again, these are real according to Luminox.
I've been scammed by more fakes and had warranty's denied from Amazon than all the other purchases I've made in my entire life. Amazon sells fakes, Amazon allows third parties to put corporate names as their company title. And legit companies like Honeywell sell their items that failed inspection via Amazon. Amazon doesn't care. I bought an Apple power supply from 'Apple' on Amazon. A year later it started to smoke. I opened it up to repair it and it didn't look like the photos and videos of real Apple power supplies. Total fake, Apple wasn't selling through Amazon at that time. I've bought Apple products for 30 years - the packaging fooled me. Could've burned down my house. I bought a Janome sewing machine on Amazon from "Janome" totally out of calibration. I called up Janome: lifetime warranty. "We do not sell on Amazon." Cost me $200 to fix a new $320 sewing machine. I complained and now the scammer has changed their Amazon name to "Brand: Janome." I would never buy an expensive watch from Amazon. Never. And what's with these companies denying stated warranty service because their item was sold via Amazon?? And thanks for the video. I'll probably just avoid Luminox all together now. I have a G-Shock that's been great, thinking of getting a new watch with tritium for sailing. There's absolutely no excuse for the problems you've had with these watches.
But he confirms these to be real not fakes. Also serial numbers? IMHP a serial # confirms the realness of a watch. For a company not to honor a warranty is just poor. This also would suggest why Luminox isn’t a REAL military spec watch or have a true military contract. These guys run around with “SEAL” every other word. And your shit falls out ? When SURFING?!? I mean surfing is great but it ain’t protecting democracy at 200 feet blowing up a submarine or whatever seals need Luminox watches to do. I think what bothers me the most is all that bravado : seals sp ops etc “manly music” playing in the background big burley dude getting out of an off road vehicle ready for business then his little light falls off his watch. I expect that in an action adventure comedy. Now there is Deep Blue who makes cheap tritium watches super affordable but doesn’t flex. Or get a Marathon that has a serial # and mil specs on its case
I remember Swimming with a simple Swatch watch (30m) back in the 80s and i never had any water issues. Now 100m waterproof watches cant hold just laying in the pool. Hillarious!
I had a $100 Citizen dress watch that spent a cycle jn the washing machine that came out with no problem. The first time my $300 Luminox touched water it broke.
Thank you for the review. The Luminox is a nice watch and I would like to get one. After listening to your comments I truly question the reliability and quality of the watch- it's a big issue for me. I don't want to waste 300-400 for nothing. I see it can be used in a limited tactical situation but not in combat. In a real tactical situation, you need a stopwatch, timer and on a dive, a watch that won't leak or fail. Time accuracy is extremely important when coordinating with units in a combined arms situation.
Thanks Beeb... same boat here. Leaking watch gift from my son. Repair watch service representing Luminox wanted about $160 to repair which is ridiculous. Mean while my Casio's and Timex's just keep on ticking with NO issues.
I am a retailer myself and authorized to sell Luminox brand in my stores. Not trying to be smart but just because it was purchased from Amazon doesn't mean it's authentic. The reason Luminox will not provide coverage for watches purchased online from anywhere online is because of the huge number of counterfeits which for the average consumer is hard to recognize. Not trying to be rude but I am surprised with the first watch purchased online having issues why would you continue to purchase online. Go to your local authorized retailer no Amazon is not an authorized retailer or Luminox would stand behind it. Go buy one from an authorized retailer then do a comparative review. I would say do not purchase any Luminox or any watch from an unauthorized source man. Based on your videos I bet you have counterfeits with all the issues you are having. I would be willing to send you one from our store and do not expect any sort of recognition. I just know that Luminox makes good watches when they come from an authorized retailer and the authenticity can be 100% guaranteed. Sadly in today's times buying this type item online is risky business and the reason Luminox strongly advises against it. Many online sellers with good intentions think they are selling a genuine Luminox brand watch when they realize that it is far from authentic once issues start to arise. Then it is too late and it hurts everyone. Sorry to leave such a long comment but I am so confident these are good watches I am willing to send you one for T and E that if you like it you can keep it, no obligation. Anyway good video man!
Ryan Dacus to be fair, i bought my 3000 from an authorized retailer. never taken it off except to change time and replace a battery, and my glass capsule for the tritium housing fell too. not so surprising considering its not the most robust design for where its placed seeing as it will get bumped. you would think they would use a better epoxy. also the paint on the bezel is wearing off. for what the watch os supposed to be, i do expect more for $300, but i do aslo understand that aesthetics is not everything.
Codga2001 It’s not the company’s responsibility to prove every counterfeit version of their watch is fake. Especially if the buyer didn’t listen to the company and didn’t buy from an authorized dealer. Had he bought from an authorized dealer, they would cover it. It’s that simple. These businesses don’t have unlimited time and resources to dedicate to every person who gets ripped off in a transaction they had nothing to do with. There’s a difference between good customer service, and losing money (in employee’s time) to deal with something that was completely out of your control. I would be worried about the future of any company that took the time to do something so silly.
As a watch dealer for many years, watches that range 50-275 dollars, time after time you will have minor issues. Whatever activities you might do, you are bumping into things you might not notice, things happen, but they are overall great watches, well built. Also the moisture part from the water sometimes after setting the time, as humans the crown tightening is not perfect ever. Sometimes it just doesn't close enough, or we didn't tighten it enough.
I bought mariner blackout model. The movement went after about five years, never abused and worn only going out socializing. Had it checked out, too much money to repair. I have a 30 dollar Casio with a ten year battery and it is still going after ten years. Heard similar stories from people I know about Luminox watches, never again.
I think this is not a matter of where you buy Luminox, the matter is NOT TO BUY LUMINOX, if you buy 3 watches and they all have problems, avoid the brand. I was going to get an Acatama but your review and many bad reviews regarding the lume have put me off
I have one of this watches and never gave me an issue ,but in the end I'm a Casio lover and have used my w800 for over 5 years and has never given me a problem , and being honest it's so weird and a pity that this brand is allowing this to happen
Amazon is not a distributor they are a retailer. Which is still considered Grey market and they are not a authorized dealer. My seal watch has never had any issues. To bad you cant send them back for warranty work.
I invested in one of these, and regret it. The tritium markers only last about 10-12 years from the date of manufacture before the glow starts dying off. And getting them replaced, if you can find someplace willing to do it, costs so much that you might as well replace it, which is what I ended up doing.
I know someone who strongly advise me against getting one of these because the bezel broke and fell off his after a short period of use! These are a no-no for me...and I'm an avid watch buyer and collector.
11 years USMC in numerous deployments.."yes combat".. the only watches I or anybody else wore was GShock. The shit that them things went through and still worked is unbelievable...and is why military wears them. I love the design of the tactic-cool watches... but its all a gimic.. if you want to look like a Navy Seal at your computer desk than go for it. I like them.. but legit luminox price does not match the tritium tubes that have been known to just fall off the sticky tape. Still..if I were to go back in...Out of any of all the "military" watches...Im grabbing a GShock. But good vid..I trust ebay more than amazon now...at least I know who is sending it.
I work at the only authorized Luminox repair center in N. America. In Cranston RI, send the two watches in with the missing bezel glass covers. I can replace the entire bezel for a mere $15... These watches are indeed durable, however they're still plastic.. And you said they are 2+ years old? Plastic is not forever lol... As for the watch with water, it's said clearly in the manual NOT to take a watch into a hot shower.. Why do people continue to do this and then complain water got inside... Steam ruins the rubber gaskets inside therefore allowing water in. Plastic and rubber wear out, and need to be serviced, end of story. So get ur facts straight about materials and be reasonable with the $200 piece of plastic you bought.
I can assure you his watches are authentic.. I've looked at them for the last 4 years now... And do NOT buy from Amazon or another non authorized dealer.. If they had that watch in their warehouse for 2 years, you think that battery is still good? And more importantly do you think the Amazon employee is remotely qualified to change your battery before they send it to you? Rofl... You'd be lucky they even put the gasket back inside
Greetings from the west coast! I've been looking for a tritium watch for some time now. My price range is around 200 and I'm looking at luminox and tawatec. Can you make any recommendations or tell me what to look for?
adam mckay I also have a couple Luminox colormark watches....if they need to be serviced can I send them back to Luminox repair center for a fee to have them fixed although they weren't purchased from an authorized dealer? Thanks...
I sent a Luminox to you're place of buisnes. They said that the motor needed replacing and a case re seal. I got the watch back still dirty, and crystal scratched worse than before. And all this for $145, I would have expected a new crystal maybe a new bezel for that price. They also did not even replace the battery. Now a year later I have to replace the battery. I know you or you're company don't care, just letting everyone know Luminox sucks ,partly because of their only warranty center. And since you're such a snotty fuck I'll call to let you're boss know!
IMO the G Shock is as good as you can get for the price. Check out the GA100-1A1 which is a very good looking stealth/tactical watch that can be had for less than $100. It also is 200 m water resistant. Like the tan then check out the GA100SD-8A or the GD120CM-5 for camo. I cant see buying this when the G Shock is much less money and been used for years and proven by LEO and military in the field.
I now have 2 luminox watches that don't work. On my 8815 the second hand gets hung up on the hour hand and doesn't keep time. This is after a complete overhaul from an authorized repair shop. They haven't responded to my email either. No more luminox watches for me.
I waited Fuckin 2 months for a bed from amazon, I had to cancel my order so if I order this watch and it’s coming from amazon I’m Not getting it no way. I’ll fuckin be waiting 6 months for the watch
I have worn Luminox since about 1995. But 20 years ago Luminox made a very high quality watch. Sorry to say that is not the case anymore. In recent years every single Luminox watch I have purchased has had issues taking on moisture just from rain, or washing hands, or swimming. This is unacceptable from a company that makes their mark by selling "DIVE WATCHES". Do yourself a favor. Save tons of money and have a watch that you can't kill under almost any circumstance...Buy Casio G-Shock. They have a bazillion styles from analog to crazy digital. The ones I have enjoyed the most are the GA-100SD in Sand Tan, the GA-100 All Black, and the GW-9300-1JF with Carbon Fiber strap. The GW-9300-1JF is Atomic/Solar, totally badass. Dudes, these watches are freaking awesome in every way. Stop buying Luminox.
OK, I think what you mean is that the number seven in the date box should have the short vertical line coming down from the top on the left side instead of just a horizontal line and the diagonal that goes to the bottom. However, after looking at many pictures of various Luminoxes, I see no 'barbs' on the bands anywhere.
My Colormark 3051 which I bought back in early 2013 also had its bezel tridium glass missing. I never bumped my watch on anything but it still lights up so it doesn't bother me much. And doesn't stop me from buying the Nighthawk 6402 recently and it has been great!
Always buy from a Luminox approved dealer. I bought my 7051B.0 from a local approved dealer. Full warranty, the second hand fell off and it was repaired no questions asked.
I know this vid was posted ages ago, but it still makes me cringe in 2021. First of all, you question why the sapphire is missing from the bezel and then drop the watch very carelessly onto your desk, smh. It's very common for the tritium tubes to unseat themselves from that behaviour and I wouldn't be surprised if that eventually happened too. You wondered aloud about why the sapphire was missing from your 20th anniversary model, but you could clearly see in the vid that, contrary to your claim of lightly using/ handling the watch, there was distinct wear and tear ON the moulding of the pip, not to mention other places on the bezel. Your third model had actual water in the case and yet you still had the battery inserted! A Ronda movement is not expensive to replace, but then, the watches themselves are not of the highest quality. However, having said that - you need to care for your watches. If there is water present in the case, you need t immediately open the case, remove the battery, remove the crown and remove the movement and let the whole thing dry. Then, you take it in for service and have the gaskets replaced. I think there are a lot of folks who mistakenly believe that there is such a thing as waterproof. They also erroneously believe that a watch that looks rugged, or is branded with some military insignia is actually indestructible. I know the rant is not fair to the guy who posted this so many years after the fact, but still.
i know this an old video but its still interesting for someone that has bought Luminox watches from Amazon. my issue wasn't the "fake" problem. my problem went back before they started using Asurion (spelling?) for warranty watch repair. i bought one 4 years ago. had a warranty issue. contacted Luminox and they said my warranty was void because i bought it from Amazon they are not an authorized distributor. Amazon eventually made good after i complained. they refunded the $280 purchase price. after that they started using this after-market repair company to handle warranties on products they're not authorized to sell.
If someone buys a watch (or in fact any product) and its not to spec, why don't people just send it back to the retailer as faulty. It is clearly Amazon's responsibility to provide something that is as described and fit for purpose.
Thanks for the video, beebrett619. I have the same issue of the missing window on the 12 with my 3001.BO. I've had other issues as well - the movement died at ~4 years, the strap tore at ~5 years, the crystal is chipped and scratched, and now the movement is probably dead again after another 4 years. The saddest part is that this watch is one of many, and has seen very light use. Although it sees almost daily use, it's in the evening around the house and overnight while I'm sleeping - it's by far the most comfortable watch I own, and has the best lume at night. For those reasons, and those reasons only, I am considering replacing it with a similar Luminox again...
Hi, I don't know if you realise but being waterproof doesn't mean it's stream proof which is different to water obvs. But I was told that to never wear any watch on the shower due to this. Just a heads up. Thanks for your vid.
I have a Luminox 8401 and it has performed flawlessly for the last five years. I'll admit to not caring for the plastic/carbon cases as they feel cheap on my wrist. In my opinion, the weak spot is definitely the straps. I have replaced on of those. That said, I'm still purchasing a 4221 this week because I like the look more than mine. I always buy all of my watches through an authorized dealer in LA (I live in PA) and still enjoy a 30% discount and free shipping which I feel is more than fair. I have never had to send one in for repairs, but I pay the extra money up front just in case I need to have them repaired. Amazon is a joke. Is it really worth saving $100 when you have nothing but problems with the timepiece? Pay the extra cash and make your life easier.
Thanks for the review. I was going to purchase a Luminox from Amazon but I won't now. The company is just trying to get out of covering their flaws. You would think they would care, especially when you have already gotten 180000 views on your review. That is a lot of money lost for Luminox. Again, thanks for the thorough review!
Had three myself from a dealer all three had issues , from leaking water to low tritium light output .....and finally a self winder that would not keep time through the night. Casio for me now.
If those are fake then my Luminox might be also. Regardless, my first Luminox was great and lasted forever. The one I have now had moisture beading up inside and I decided to open it up. This voids your warranty but my watches get used. The gasket was folded and caused the leak. I straightened the gasket out and set the watch in the window so the sun could warm it to get the moisture out. It was winter time so the air was dry. I left it there for about two or three hours and put it back together. It hasn't had any moisture in it since.
One question... is the water issue most often due to the back of the case not being secured....or is it from the permeability of the area around the crystal? I have an 8800 series Recon...and I barely got the top wet, and it fogged up.
I own two Luminox watches. The Navy Seal 3000 and Colormark 3050. I plan on buying the Master Carbon Seal 3801. I have owned my 3000 for about 15 years. Not one issue. I have owned my 3050 for 6 years (Every Day Wear). Other then two bands, not one problem. Both still have their 12 o'clock marker intact! Amazon and Ebay are not 100 % authentic......
As an authorized retailer of Luminox watches, we are reassured by Luminox that they do not sell to Amazon. Perhaps you should check your info with Luminox.
I own a colormark and a 3000. I would have to see the movement on yours to be sure. BUT on the 8800, did your Dad screw with the case back? On authentic Luminox, 3000 for example, It will have a rubber o-ring seal that when I replace my battery I need to make sure to use vaseline on that o-ring before reassembly. This happened once to me - same thing. Dried it out, reassembled as described, dove 25'- 30' in sea water- no problems.
I bought a Casio dive watch 30 years ago. It still works today and it is 5x as heavy as the cheap Casio made today. Same deal with Luminox. The good dive watches today are well over $500
I bought a Luminox 3 years ago. Stopped keeping accurate time, sent it back within a few weeks to the authorized dealer I purchased it from, the replacement did the same thing. These watches are over marketed junk! Save your money and buy a G Shock!
Don't be so sure about buying from Amazon "direct". We were Amazon FBA sellers. (Fulfillment by Amazon). We ship our merchandise to Amazon in bulk for them to warehouse, process the transaction and ship to our customers. Unless we stuck our own personalized barcodes on every piece of merchandise, Amazon would co-mingle our stuff with other seller's identical merchandise in their warehouse INCLUDING AMAZON'S OWN LISTINGS. So you buy something from Amazon "direct", they just pull it from the bin of dozens of sellers with the same item. After a few incidences of our buyers complaining of receiving opened or damaged packaging, we started using our own barcodes. Our merch was now stored separately. When someone bought from our store, they received OUR merch. But every so often we would get a notice that Amazon used one of our items for their own transaction. The co-mingle bin was empty.
I have an 8800 Black ops. can submerge in water just fine but go out in the cold and it fogs up. I re-lubed the o-ring and there are no leaks. Also have a protective "glass" I cut to fit to keep it from scratching the mineral crystal.
I have been thinking to buy a Luminox, but I do not know nothing about the case material made with PC Carbon, it looks like a basic Casio (I love Casio instruments), What do you thing about PC Carbon? It is resistant?
At least yours are still running. I have 2 of the high end watches I bought 10 years ago or more and after 5 years the f117 watch quit working (yes, battery replaced a couple of times). The other Luminox was a Navy Seal titanium watch, that still works. I've never bought another Luminox since the F117 died. I started back buying Casio and Citizen (and Chase Durer) which are still running despite the punishment I give them. Never put the Luminox under any stress. To me Luminox is just a poor timepiece.
I know it’s old video but I’m a retail vendor, and I’m telling you that’s 100% fake I can tell by the sheen on it, you really need to rename this video it’s disingenuous, but good video on fakes anyway
Love luminox watches. Got a new black ops type men's all black turtle giant design. It's not keeping time. Ordered from jewelry store on Amazon too. Not happy. Needed daily watch lite, low key, tough! I own Tag & others that don't wear daily. $300 isn't expensive but certainly not cheap. -Ohio
I have an older Titanium Luminox 3600 series. It has taken to "sticking" periodically when the date changes over. This causes loss of correct time. The problem does not appear to be battery related and is somehwat random. No longer under warranty. Having read all the comments for this video I am unsure whether it would be worth it to have the watch repaired.
Exactly. Probly same quality of watch (2-3 year watch) just not as durable. Too bad casio is going down the carbon fiber rought. Luminox have a carbon fiber coating and it does nothing for durability
I can't speak on behalf of the glass piece falling out but the water issue could be cause from the surfing. Ocean water will deteriorate the seals and should be cleaned after every use in ocean water or dirt gets on them. At least that's what luminoxes website says in the warranty info section
Not sure why you all think Amazon wouldnt be selling counterfeits, but I bought my 4th Luminox on Amazon, series 3050, I started getting the exact same issue with the fogging up, we called luminox, they said we did not buy it from an authorized retailer, no warranty even though we have warranty card. The dealer on amazon will not respond at all. Amazon said, "sorry, guess we need to find a way to stop these guys form selling these watches"....wth. Counterfeit in my opinion or these were defective units that were sold cheap on the open market, who knows....not luminox quality as my previous luminox have all been stellar. NOTE: dont buy them on Amazon.
Bought mine from Sportsman's Guide for $220.00 Luminox EVO, had it for 2 yrs now without issue. Tritium glass at 12:00 still there no leaking issues. I only wear it on the weekends as I work in a sheet metal shop during the week...
That's where I got my 8418 Camo dial Luminox, wonder if they really sell authentic Luminox. Not that I doubt them, just wonder if they are an "authorized" dealer since they sell a lot of closeouts, discontinued merch. and sometimes refurbs, blems etc.
MrRugercat45 Oh, the 8418 camo dial cost $144 at Sportsman's Guide! Makes me wonder. Works fine, not a scratch on the crystal (sapphire?) only one chip on edge of crystal, oh, needs a batt. too.
I'm sure luminox will help with your problem! I have a special edition Navy Seal one and never have any problems with it but I did knock out the bezel and they replaced it for free... I never told them where I got the watch from and they just did it for free. So I think they do grant good service.
MXarcx Hi, my 3050.BO is also missing the little glass crystal above the tritium tube on the bezel. Did you ever have it repaired or could you find the part yourself? I would also like to fix this withouth sending it to Luminox and all. Greets.
sh1zzle I had the same issue with the little glass piece at the 12 o'clock missing. I had mine repaired (out of warranty) from the US authorized repair center: Lumondi Service Center c/o Saltzman's Watches and More. If that is the only thing you are fixing, the cost to replace the bezel was $15.00 plus $12.95 S&H. I also chose to get the "general overhaul" service which is a new battery and fresh waterproofing gaskets and they perform a waterproofing test. The whole process of sending to them and having the work done are returned was about 2 weeks.
Any watch marketed as worn by Navy Seals most likely is not worn by Navy Seals. Had a Luminox for ten years, beat the crap out of it at work etc. Fished with it in salt water, swam with it, never did any special care with it and never had any issues with it. Finally broke the Case at work and it gave out. Always buy watches from Brick and Mortar anything else and you are asking for trouble.
As some others have said. You're buying from Amazon. They ARE NOT an authorized retailer of Luminox. There are select places you can get them from that are authorized. If it's not an authorized retailer, you do not get a manufacturer's warranty to cover issues. The warranty is covered by a third party and NOT LUMINOX. And because they are not a authorized retailer, these pieces you have may very well NOT BE THE REAL THING! You know nothing for a fact and do not know where Amazon is getting their stock from because it's obviously not from Luminox. Do you really think Amazon could get their pieces straight from Luminox and resell them for so cheap? They'd lose hundreds of dollars a sale. You said yourself, Luminox told you you're not covered because that piece didn't come from Luminox. Hell the only authorized retailers around me personally are JEWELERS. You couldn't tell and apparently don't have an eye to tell whether or not it's a knock off. And not enough sense to not buy more than one after having issues with the first. You bought cheap and got cheap. Everyone serves a purpose. Even if it's as an example to others.
you may not realize but waterproofing needs to be redone each year for any watch from a rolex on down, new gasket, retested, etc. furthermore, the watch may not go down farther than 3ft when used as surfing, but the water pressure of rushing surf will increase the measurable water pressure on the watch depending on how fast the surf/water rushes against it. MOST important is that NO watch (no matter what sales people say) should be exposed to hot tubs, hot water, hot showers, etc...this is a separate issue than depth, the heat will expand the watch allowing water to enter, then when the watch cools there will always be water in your watch which turns to mist when it is warm or hot, drops when cold. these waterproof watches are made for natural ranges of heat or cold, not hot showers or hot tubs...easiest way to ruin a watch or at least get water in it. i've been selling watches for 15 years and use some of the top watchmakers in the world to service my watches and have learned that most people, including watch salespeople, do not know many simple things...these among them.
I work at a barbecue in a restaurant kitchen. The temperature is high and I carry a good Q & Q watch and I have no problem to wet it continuously. Do not take it out of my hand, swim with it and bathe in the bath with hot water. I use it to work because it is 20 euros and is lightweight 26 grams. I also have Tissot, Seiko, Cassio watches but they are expensive big and heavy and I do not work with them.
Johnny johnny, thats the same i wanted to answer, splashing into water rises the preasure very high, in many user manuals of diferent watch brands you will see a warning about this issue. Good chat, right today i ordered a leatherback turtle, you guys scared mi now, anyway i will post further on my impressions. Cheers guys.
@@danijuggernaut i like the leatherback turtle...it has a real lume pip vs the tritium pips with the glass issue. also, real lume will not die in 12 years or so (trit tubes have a half life of 12.3 year so will be half brightness at that time). i'm considering getting one too. if you did get one, let me know here if it's good or not :)
As stated by everyone, the reason for your problems : You might have gotten some Knock offs and not original! You did not purchase these watches from a Luminox Authorized Dealer. I have 3 Luminox watches as well and do not have any issues!
Amazon has the same problem as Ebay they have a ton of counterfeit items on there from watches, gear, armor and tourniquets. You never know what you are getting unless you know what you are looking for..
i'm not sure about luminox in recent years. I have onr that is 16 years old when they used to be called navy seal watches. I have beat the hell out of it in construction and in the ocean as well as in swimming pools. Its got tons of signs of wear and tear and to this date has not leaked or malfunctioned.
I think you got flukes. I have owned mine (Recon Point Man) since early 2013 and still no problems. I wore it in the ocean, underwater in pools, in the shower, and the only issue I have had is the band keeper broke. The crystal looks like I just opened it out of the box. However mine has a sapphire crystal.
jus came across this vid. ... funny how all 3 came from amazon. maybe try an auth retailer next time. 3 times before you clued in (??) my guess is, Not a luminox problem. All the Best
Late to the game here, but I have had a few items from Amazon that were actual returns and resold as new. I would have sent back to Amazon for replacement.
The watches in the video look legit to me...but what do I know. Sorry to see you having issues man. I just bought a Luminox for myself and another one for my girlfriend from amazon. Haven't had it but a couple of weeks. Love it so far! I did some research on fake luminox's and ours both seem to be legit. Also, amazon offers a 2 year warranty on their watches so as long as its real I should be just as well off as if I had bought it from an authorized dealer. Only difference is that I saved $200...or $400 if you consider that I bought two watches :) If in the future anything bad happens I will comment on here. I'm sure this video gets a lot of traffic for people buying Luminox watches.
I had the same issue with the little glass piece at the 12 o'clock missing. The "general overhaul" was $55. I bought my watch from an authorized retailer in 2007 and this is the first time I've needed the battery changed. The whole process of sending to them and having the work done are returned was about 2 weeks.
I have an authentic Luminox 3050/3900 series and it has the same water issue. I opened the back and the water gasket/ O ring is damaged and it is hard to find the exact size replacement.
If you buy the watch off of Amazon and it shows that the watch is being sold by Luminox it's self and not some bs retailer, then I should be good right?
I have one of these (3050/3950) Wore it to swim in (Laps only, so it never got below 2 feet)... Started to fog up within 3 months of getting it. Sent it back to authorized Luminox service repair center. They fixed it, but it took 3 months. (I believe they replaced the movement). Got it back, continued to wear it while swimming laps.. After less than a year noticed it will fog up again if its cold outside. Not going to send it back, but quit wearing it while swimming. I like the tritium dial since it always visible, but I am NOT impressed with the watch. I have a Wengar SAK divers watch, that was about 15 years old. NEVER fogged up (screw down crown and back). The only reason I changed watched was the luminescence on the Wengar watch had wore out...It still works fine, and you can wear it swimming. Wouldn't buy another Luminox.
the way to know you got a real Swiss luminox? they don't scratch and don't have wear marks, they don't fall apart no matter how much abuse, they don't show wear and they don't leak. buy from a reputable authorized dealer, then you have the warranty and you know it's authentic, not grey market.
How it is possible to buy something on Amazon? I can understand that a Swiss Watch in murrica bought from a Official Dealer will cost you more... but at least you got a real Swiss watch, and not a fake. I feel so bad for you... greetings from Switzerland.
I bought one a few days ago on Amazon and it arrived today. Totally unimpressed. The bezel ring was wobbly, the second hand didn't line up with the second marks, and the casing fest plastic and cheap. I'll just buy a cheap Timex or something...
guess I got lucky, I bought my plain luminox in stainless steel case and strap from Botach tactical in 1998. still works great, battery replaced once. tritium still lit.
Unfortunately the only brands that amazon is actually an authorized dealer for is citizen and gshocks. For every other brand you really need to research the seller and do your homework on them and make sure they are an AD.
bought my luminox three years ago with a retail distributor of this brand, shortly after the factory warranty expired the battery ran out, I took it where I bought it and they changed it and it worked fine for three more days, thinking that the new battery was defective I took it again, they tested the battery and showed me its charge, but they still changed it, the watch didn't work for another week. I will not buy another Luminox again.
my black out within a year had the lens chip in the corner badly from a medium tap on a wood table corner.. but more annoyingly the luminox shield unglued and is floating around inside catching up on the hands, making the watch unusable. this was bought at a registered dealer at a store, so it's real.
Great video. I made the mistake of buying a model 381 from Amazon. This watch is a total joke- mechanism sucks and, like you said, it can't even handle a shower. Total waste of money.
Amazon wouldn't put their name on the line if they didn't buy from an AD. Luminox is fine with them buying, but you would not get the same warranty, that's why Amazon supplies it's own.
+neil brown they are official navy seal watches. the neo-gas tubes on the hands and markers make for a great lume lasting up to 25 years. they are generally great watches, but should be bought from an authorized dealer for the verified warranty.
You should never shower with a watch, even a dive watch. The issue is the heat deforming the seals and letting water in. Wash it in cold water. You likely will get away with showering with most divers but if your watch leaks, don't complain, as the watch isn't built for that.
You've had some bad luck. I got a Luminox several years back. Always used it as a proper beater, in other words, I abused the heck out of it. The plastic parts are all scratched up (but the crystal not so much), and some of the white paint has scratched out of the numbers on the bezel, but it still runs like a champ. No issues with water proofing either, even after I changed the battery myself with no special equipment but a tiny screwdriver. I don't know how many oceans and swimming pools it's been in. In fact, for a time I even used it specifically for taking showers because I didn't want to get soap scum on my fine watches. Now it doesn't get much wrist time because I have enough higher-end watches in rotation, so I strapped it to the back of my mitt and it still looks awesome and works perfectly when I go snowboarding. The tritium, of course, still glows as brightly it did when it was new. Luminox is not a luxury watch, but it does it's job and the poly-carbonate ones can take a beating. As a bonus, poly-carbonate is light as a feather, which is kind of refreshing when I put it on, since I'm now used to steel watches that weigh a ton.
I complained and now the scammer has changed their Amazon name to "Brand: Janome."
I would never buy an expensive watch from Amazon.
@@WillN2Go1 I can agree to that. Amazon sells fakes of Chinese watches. Pretty sad that we are buying Chinese fakes of Chinese originals.
Did you loose the waterproofing after you changed the battery?
As a watch dealer for many years, watches that range 50-275 dollars, time after time you will have minor issues. Whatever activities you might do, you are bumping into things you might not notice, things happen, but they are overall great watches, well built. Also the moisture part from the water sometimes after setting the time, as humans the crown tightening is not perfect ever. Sometimes it just doesn't close enough, or we didn't tighten it enough.
It means the seal should have a bigger section diameter to squeeze and seal properly
What about Timex?
What G shock do you recommend ?
@@Willivey910mudmaster!
I have an old yellow dial luminox, love it, but after 20 yrs. or so the tritium is getting dim? any repair for that? thanks johnd14043@yahoo.com
I have the gulfmaster g shock watch! The watch is perfect and it has allot of features to it! Plus it's solar powered...:)
Got the stealth one :) One of my favorites!
Mine to, I get more compliments on it than many of my high end watches like a Rolex. LOL
RJTINNC yup!
I now have 2 luminox watches that don't work. On my 8815 the second hand gets hung up on the hour hand and doesn't keep time. This is after a complete overhaul from an authorized repair shop. They haven't responded to my email either. No more luminox watches for me.
I have two g shock frogman watches and never had a problem with either. I've had them both for going on 10 years now.
I buy Timex watches.
They do make some great watches and I've never had an issue. As they say, takes a licking and keeps on ticking!
Drinking game. Take a shot everytime he says 100% Legit or Amazon.
I waited Fuckin 2 months for a bed from amazon, I had to cancel my order so if I order this watch and it’s coming from amazon I’m
Not getting it no way. I’ll fuckin be waiting 6 months for the watch
Lmao this is what I came to comment
The best? MTM Special ops.
Yea I've seen those MTM watches, very nice looking. Appear to of better quality than the Luminox junk.
You right !!!
it is a good watches
Not yet, but then again I don't wear it anymore.
You got three genuine fake Luminox watches there...
I was just thinking the same thing.
based only on the looks, how to know its fake?
It’s fake man. The very first thing you said is missing should have been the sign
OK, I think what you mean is that the number seven in the date box should have the short vertical line coming down from the top on the left side instead of just a horizontal line and the diagonal that goes to the bottom. However, after looking at many pictures of various Luminoxes, I see no 'barbs' on the bands anywhere.
Buy straight fron luminox store bro lol
Anybody know what time it is ?
If you want a military watch buy a Marathon.
As an authorized retailer of Luminox watches, we are reassured by Luminox that they do not sell to Amazon. Perhaps you should check your info with Luminox.
I have been an authorized dealer for Luminox for 10 years now and NEVER do we have the problems this guy is mentioning. Buy from an Authorized dealer.
I've had mine for over 5 years... perfectly fine
Update - watch fogs up again. Time to look at Protek, Deep Blue or a Casio G-Shock. Luminox is terribly overpriced for what you get.
I have been thinking to buy a Luminox, but I do not know nothing about the case material made with PC Carbon, it looks like a basic Casio (I love Casio instruments), What do you thing about PC Carbon? It is resistant?
I guess my LumiNox research is complete......I was really looking forward to one of these
What's the accuracy like?
At least yours are still running. I have 2 of the high end watches I bought 10 years ago or more and after 5 years the f117 watch quit working (yes, battery replaced a couple of times). The other Luminox was a Navy Seal titanium watch, that still works. I've never bought another Luminox since the F117 died. I started back buying Casio and Citizen (and Chase Durer) which are still running despite the punishment I give them. Never put the Luminox under any stress. To me Luminox is just a poor timepiece.
I know it’s old video but I’m a retail vendor, and I’m telling you that’s 100% fake I can tell by the sheen on it, you really need to rename this video it’s disingenuous, but good video on fakes anyway
i have been wearing a luminox 3080 for a couple years. zero issues.
i got couple of luminox i never seen 4 screw backs? i just got a a 3150 and they all have big covers .
Just buy a Casio G-Shock!
Know what you mean as my Stealth Fighter unit is in the shop getting a new movement installed. But it's >10 years old.😀
I Have one and he is not waterproof
Fake G-Shocks is already out in the market.
Exactly. Probly same quality of watch (2-3 year watch) just not as durable. Too bad casio is going down the carbon fiber rought. Luminox have a carbon fiber coating and it does nothing for durability
@J A there are extremely small versions...and not Baby Gs.
That is such a big fault that you can't say "never had any problem with it"
You must have caught them on a good day. I think they make their $$ denying warranty on their sub-par watches.
What watch are you wearing in the video?
I had the same problem with the little glass piece however i had no problems with water. I took my watch several times to 25m dives.
Send those all back to Amazon for a refund....then buy from an authorized retailer
i had the same problem too. i bought luminox blackout navy seal 2 years ago.
As stated by everyone, the reason for your problems : You might have gotten some Knock offs and not original! You did not purchase these watches from a Luminox Authorized Dealer. I have 3 Luminox watches as well and do not have any issues!
My twenty year old lluminox watch is still working great.
I think their quality has went down as it has with many products.
If your battery was changed the gasket seal was also supposed to be replaced. I can bet you did not let a authorized dealer replace the battery.
Amazon has the same problem as Ebay they have a ton of counterfeit items on there from watches, gear, armor and tourniquets. You never know what you are getting unless you know what you are looking for..
My Luminox is 10 years old and a fantastic timepiece.
Damn. Just bought a luminox 39mm a month ago. Didn't see this vid until today
i'm not sure about luminox in recent years. I have onr that is 16 years old when they used to be called navy seal watches. I have beat the hell out of it in construction and in the ocean as well as in swimming pools. Its got tons of signs of wear and tear and to this date has not leaked or malfunctioned.
My color mark survived a bad motorcycle crash and kept working fine. I purchased mine from an AD.
Hey is it legit? You haven’t said it enough times
Did he have the crown securely screwed down?
I think you got flukes. I have owned mine (Recon Point Man) since early 2013 and still no problems. I wore it in the ocean, underwater in pools, in the shower, and the only issue I have had is the band keeper broke. The crystal looks like I just opened it out of the box. However mine has a sapphire crystal.
A good tritium watch is a Marathon TSAR (quartz) or the GSAR if you want a mechanical movement.
jus came across this vid. ... funny how all 3 came from amazon. maybe try an auth retailer next time.
Only difference is that I saved $200...or $400 if you consider that I bought two watches :)
If in the future anything bad happens I will comment on here. I'm sure this video gets a lot of traffic for people buying Luminox watches.
is it shock resistant watch?
I had the same issue with the little glass piece at the 12 o'clock missing. The "general overhaul" was $55. I bought my watch from an authorized retailer in 2007 and this is the first time I've needed the battery changed. The whole process of sending to them and having the work done are returned was about 2 weeks.
Jason Hicks Nice, thanks for your comment!
Jason Hicks I one from an authorized dealer and that glass piece easily gets broken next to the band which costs around $125 to be replaced. Tsk
Presumably if these watches are fake then they would be identifiable as such. It could be the materials or the time keeping etc.
I bought one a few days ago on Amazon and it arrived today. Totally unimpressed. The bezel ring was wobbly, the second hand didn't line up with the second marks, and the casing fest plastic and cheap. I'll just buy a cheap Timex or something...
guess I got lucky, I bought my plain luminox in stainless steel case and strap from Botach tactical in 1998. still works great, battery replaced once. tritium still lit.
the screw case back still has the swiss traser by mb-microtech Inc engraving.
Unfortunately the only brands that amazon is actually an authorized dealer for is citizen and gshocks. For every other brand you really need to research the seller and do your homework on them and make sure they are an AD.
And they have the trident engraved.
Priceless.
bought my luminox three years ago with a retail distributor of this brand, shortly after the factory warranty expired the battery ran out, I took it where I bought it and they changed it and it worked fine for three more days, thinking that the new battery was defective I took it again, they tested the battery and showed me its charge, but they still changed it, the watch didn't work for another week. I will not buy another Luminox again.
Don't buy from a online store, buy from a store that sell luminox, or go to the manufacturer
my black out within a year had the lens chip in the corner badly from a medium tap on a wood table corner.. but more annoyingly the luminox shield unglued and is floating around inside catching up on the hands, making the watch unusable. this was bought at a registered dealer at a store, so it's real.
Great video. I made the mistake of buying a model 381 from Amazon. This watch is a total joke- mechanism sucks and, like you said, it can't even handle a shower. Total waste of money.
Sorry, but you cant say "I know for sure its not a fake" unless you bought it from an authorized retailer. Amazon is NOT an authorized Luminox dealer.
Amazon wouldn't put their name on the line if they didn't buy from an AD. Luminox is fine with them buying, but you would not get the same warranty, that's why Amazon supplies it's own.
what is the selling point for these watches?
Purchased directly from amazon... Amazon has fake ones all the time
