  • If you have a steel bicycle frame, you need to maintain and protect the inside of the tubing just as well as the outside. This applies to vintage, as well as brand new steel frames. Rust from the inside will eventually destroy a steel frame. We've used both Frame Saver and Boeshield T-9 over the last ten plus years, but have exclusively used Boeshield T-9 for the last three years. There are three reasons why we switched:
1 - Boeshield T-9 has a very low odor and easier cleanup.
2 - Boeshiled T-9 dries more quickly. It typically dries within 3 days depending on temperature.
3 - Boeshield T-9 tends go further and treats more frames (per equivalent can). More uses too.

    FAQ:
Q: Can I use Boeshield T-9 as a frame rust inhibitor on my bike without taking it apart?
A: Yes. Forward to 4:07 in the video. It is much easier to apply a rust inhibitor to a frame that has the bottom bracket and headset removed. But it is possible to get an effective internal coating using exposed vent holes and other openings. If you can remove the wheels and seat post, you can access most of the frame.
Q: How often should Boeshield T-9 be reapplied?
A: It depends on use. In our shop, we recommend that most recreational riders reapply every 3-5 years. This should be good for normal condensation cycles and occasional use in adverse weather and mud. For all season commuters and riders doing touring or bikepacking, we recommend treating your frame once a year. Same goes for anyone who rides near salt water or in winter slush. More often is better than less often in any case.
