That is a gorgeous paint scheme, it reminds me of what drew me to mountain biking in the 90s, bold fresh looking frames piloted by guys hurtling down the mountainside. Lovely 😊

Love it, new subscriber here. Jealous as hell that you've acquired such a find and largely original! I'd have killed for this for my channel. Massive respect for preserving the OG battle scars and patina, that's exactly what I'd have done too. This bike has a long story to tell. By the way, that thick front brake cable is a Suntour/Dia-Compe, they were braided for zero stretch but that meant less "feel" or brake modulation. Finally, that's an 89. The 88 had Browning electronic shifting on the chainset, and if you ever stumble across one of those you could be a very rich man!

Cheers, the next vid is taking ages cos so many bolts are seized. Even pedal to cranks is turning in to a mission! It's been hard to tell which year it is, even have found 2 catalogues from diffrent countries with diffrent years (88 & 89) with matching pics and almost the same spec bike in them (my german isnt great tho)

@@W1DO I posted on your first video, it is a 1989. The 1988 used a Ubrake, not cantilevers.

I find that keeping the rust areas properly wet is best done by soaking a paper towel with the rust converter, then wrapping the area in cling wrap.

Plastic wrap over the top is a good call, I can probably use some that's been used already to make it more environmentally friendly.

Vinegar bath will get rid of all that rust easily.

Not too much, its further away than it looks. I'm not usually a squirter tho, so I didnt plan ahead.

I would have taped off the cantilever brake bosses before spraying with laquer.

I should have, but a little bit of fine sand paper will sort them out :)
