    One of the most difficult things I have to overcome is being distracted. It can be something as simple as the cactus outside the window or a hummingbird coming to the feeder and my mind floats off into either admiration or questions. That's why calendar blocking works for me and keeping a daily calendar makes it so much easier. 🌸

    Thank you for keeping it real.. by helping me accept that my ramp up time should be factored in. Even if I felt like you were talking directly to me when you mentioned taking a half hour to get coffee and getting stuck in a tictok rabbit hole! When that sort of thing gets exposed it really helps me not to do that so much anymore, so thank you again!

    I calendar block, but my problem this week is that when I see that task, I don't want to do it! My energy is low, my getup and go has got up and left the building! So instead of working on a project, I find legitimate busy work... Answering emails, getting ready for meetings (like making handouts) ... Instead of focusing on the project that needs brain power! I wish I could move this block to the morning (instead of 2-4pm... my natural nap time) but that's when I get called into meetings and haven't been able to convince higher-ups the benefits of having meetings in the afternoon. Besides finding different work, how can I solve this problem? 💖🌞😷🌵

    • @VioletEmerald
      @VioletEmerald 3 года назад +2

      I've seen recommendations to sip on sugar like lemonade seriously, while doing high brainpower things, or eat protein rich healthy food pretty soon before so you've got nutrition energizing you, exercise right before a little like even just a few jumping jacks or 1 song dance party getting up out of your chair at your computer to reenergize yourself. Make sure you get enough sleep every single day at the same exact schedule where you don't even need your alarm to wake you up because you wake up then anyway on your own feeling refreshed and full of energy. And "remembering your why", remembering how good it'll be to accomplish the hard thing and why you're doing it in the first place can help push you towards actually doing it

      If you are sugar-free or low carb, or just want to stay away from afternoon sweets as suggested in the other response to this comment, try eating your healthy meal about 45 minutes before you need to start your task (so, if the block you have is from 2-4, eat lunch at 115pm). This gives proteins and veg some time to digest. Also, consider a (premade) green smoothie at the half-way mark (about 3pm in this example), or a sliced apple with peanut butter or hummus.
      You might also consider buying a glucose monitor (for diabetics). I am not diabetic, but I find that if I am tired or cranky, it is because my blood sugar is at 70, which is the low side of not diabetic. The only way I know this is because I bought a monitor and started testing, because I was suddenly in serious need of a nap everyday at 2pm, which had never been the case in my life. Turned out I just needed to change my eating habits a bit.

    I definitely find time-blocking to be so valuable! If I set a time limit, I usually get it done and even stay hyper-focused on it! But accounting for additional time also helps tremendously. Valuable video as always Amy! :)

    this was so random to show up in my suggestions. maybe because i watch minimalist videos and have health issues so i am trying to use my space and time best i can. this was helpful info, even for someone like me.. my health forces me to change my plans so i could not always follow this to a T, but it would def still be helpful!! even scheduling in time to rest would be good because sometimes i forget to..and pay for it later, which disrupts my whole week/schedule and that is hard with a baby.

    This video showed me that calendar blocking is really not for me and the tasks I have to do. This works if you have tasks that basically repeat themselves over and over again and you know exactly what's coming and how long it's going to take you. But if you're like me and have to do something new every week (hello to all the fellow programmers and coders out there!), then it's hard to block out the right amount of time. You either end up not finishing the task at all and the rest of the week is already blocked with other tasks, or it'll take you only a fraction of the time and I personally find it so hard to motivate myself to do something else when the block does not call for it. Parkinson's law does not work for coding at all!

    Maybe you cover this somewhere - but what if it’s time to do that thing & especially if it’s a creative thing - like writing- what if you’re just not in that head space at that time? Not “I don’t feel like doing this” but “I’m really not feeling rested or in a creative mood right now”
    For me being self employed - I just don’t do it - I’ll skip it and then it’s not done......again.

    Tic Tok black hole.
    Ha; I never go down tic tok black wholes.
    It tends to be RUclips or some bit of reading I decide to do.
    I'm a slow reader so when some interesting thing catches my attention and I have to read about it; hours will go by and I'l be like; wow, it's late and feel like I didn't read enough.
