Kia ev6 gt as it will actually match the tesla model y performance currently for sale. But by the time the Kia is out tesla could have the next gen model y with single piece castings and structural 4680 battery pack. Who knows what stats that model will have?

@UCxXETDx14Ek5YBiQjoVmafA that would be the upcoming lucid air, Mercedes eqs possibly might get there. The updated model s plaid+ next year.
Nio claims the upcoming et7 sedan will do 700+kms but that is under the nedc standard. So still likely less than 400 miles real world range. 🤔

@@obsidian.... when he said ‘the’ charging network I think it was supposed to say ‘their charging network’. Tesla’s Superchargers are the reason people buy Tesla. In a Tesla you can use ANY chargers. In other EVs you just get the public network. Imagine the ignominy of driving past 10 gleaming white 150KW Superchargers to get to your public one. If you use an EV to go on trips then it’s a no brainer. Also the satnav in the Tesla knows where the chargers are and intelligently routes you. It pre heats the battery before you arrive and centrally bills you. It’s this ecosystem that makes this a great car, and what hampers other EVs, however good or prestigious they are.

@@ethelred2648 The OP's point was that the Tesla cars were so good it made other manufacturers jump into making electric cars (which I agree).
      .
But GedUK's response (which is who I was responding to if you look) was that it was Tesla's charging network that got them to, which makes no sense... A car manufacturer wouldn't jump into making electric cars because of a thing their own cars couldn't use lol.

I had a similar experience when I shunned diesel in favour of petrol, then when I finally got a diesel I had to admit they weren't as bad as I thought. Same thing happened when I finally went electric. Simply never going back to oil and cogs and gears and pistons and controlled explosions. @paulfreeborough6868 3 года назад +3

Yeah not completely impartial, 90% of the cars function can be controlled by voice, which is a lot safer than manual controls, also the handling and ride are very good, I've owned, mercedes (c class), Audi (A4 & A3) and jaguars. (XE & XF), and this is a far better car than any of those, as for road noise, you notice it more because there is no engine noise, but sound in Decibels, Tesla M3 is a lot better than an ICE car. Finally Tesla's come fully loaded, if you are comparing it to Any competitor you need to compare it to the top trim level in any Audi, Mercedes or BMW. VW group have openly admitted they are 7 years behind Tesla in motor and battery technology, and 10 years behind the full self driving 10 beta version being tested in the US. In the next 9 years Tesla will overtake Toyota in volume, and probably GM, Toyota, and a good proportion of European brands will dissapear, as Tesla, Hyundai/Kia, and probably the Chinese SAIC and BYD invade and take over the western car market

Good fun but missed the mark a couple of times. The main is comparing it to the comfort of an iPace. This is deliberate, it is supposed to be the more sporty and lively version. Those looking for iPace style comfort are supposed to buy the more similarly priced Model S. Also the cheap shot at finishing when talking about the initial production run years ago erodes the impartiality. Spoilt it somewhat.
The wind noise pre-2020 is valid, and 2021 has massively improved this including double glazed windows. Even so, the top 10 after market videos still recommend the trim you can add around the door frame. I'll get this when I order my Model 3.

All of the commonly used driving controls for the Tesla Model 3 are on the steering wheel or stalks: turn signals, wipers, autopilot controls, audio controls, phone answering, voice command, etc. The Tesla *touchscreen is usually NOT used while actually driving* except for an occasional glance at the large speedometer or map. Tesla's ergonomics are excellent and VERY easy to use.
Tesla's Long Range Model 3 in this review competes very favorably with the BMW 330i. Both are competent family saloons. Neither is intended to be a performance car per se.
In contrast, the Tesla Model 3 Performance outperforms the BMW M3 and feels and drives better doing it. The Tesla is also quicker around a race track.

Interesting take on reviews. Seems there's this *need* to have a counterpoint to every point. The interior noise comments were a bit odd. The wind noise is definitely not louder than most cars in the same segment. It's more noticed because of the lack of other noises. And the ride, as well. It's firm, but quite compliant. "Sporty" would be the best descriptor, and it matches its quite-good, unflappable handling. Really, the overall ownership experience - how this product approaches solving the transportation problem - is why this car is so compelling. It's why I finally decided to buy one.

Once you use the autopilot with each update you will see the improvements. At first when the auto lane change was introduced it was not very confident sometimes. But now I feel like I am driving but I only have my hands on the wheel. Love every single thing about my model 3 and couldn't be more satisfied with my decision

Nice video, it was a surprise that this car got that much wind noise, didn't know that, especially for one with a low Cd value.

    • @danbradley7176
      @danbradley7176 3 года назад +10

I suspect it's not any worse than other cars. There's only a little engine noise to cover it up so it seems louder. I guess it would be tricky to isolate and measure wind noise alone without engine and road noise. They need an audio engineer to set up a real comparison.

@@danbradley7176 Agree - Actual decibel measurements at different speeds are quite easy to do with a hand held. I'm sure they could easily find an Ipace for comparison. Though Top Gear is just for entertainment, not a factual show as they have claimed in the past.

Well we drive a BMW 320I GT from 2016 and a 2019 Tesla Model 3 (Long range) and I have to say the Tesla drives much better. Far superior throttle response and cornering around a roundabout I can do it much faster with Tesla 3. It has just much more grip due to it`s all wheel drive. Is everything better than the BMW? No the used plastics are of a lesser quality and some fit and finishes are less premium. Both cars cost the same amount of money when we bought the new (around 60k€). So from that perspective very equal. Normally my wife drives up to 500 km a week and she always can charge, around twice a week, the car at night on the drive way. So no more spending time to go to a gas station..
We only kept the BMW as a second family car because we also have a caravan (I`m Dutch. :) ) which was too heavy for the Tesla to tow.
But if I really what to have some fun driving a car I take my old Peugeot 205 CTI....

The Model 3 makes me want to drive instead of seeing driving as a chore. That in itself makes the car valuable. Wouldn't mind them releasing a 30K M3 but gotta wait a few years until their battery costs drop.

I love this car! The one thing that turns me off about it, and is very important to me, the lack of physical knobs and buttons for volume, channel, a/c, etc.. I HATE having to do everything by touch, it's counter productive, unintuitive, and slower, and potentially more dangerous...some could say that nit picking, I don't care, it becomes a real annoyance when there's very little else to complain about.

    • @ouethojlkjn

There is (vey good) voice command. Auto lights, auto main beams, auto wipers, climate control. control of hifi on steering wheel - not much need for buttons in the real world. Plus legacy auto have figured out that touch screens are way cheaper than wiring up endless buttons - so they are fast disappearing anyway.

Inaccurate. You can’t use full self driving in the UK. You can buy it as a potential future investment, but you can’t use it, so you can’t comment on its efficacy. Yet.

I'm an American lad and after hearing this I'm kind of disappointing. How could he downrank it and say that there isn't anything that beat the model 3. There is the tesla roadster and and tesla is currently working on the roadster 2.0. And tesla has already made to fully electric trucks. But he is a very good presenter. I like his enthusiasm as he talked tot the viewers.

Remember Top Gear love their oils and cogs and gears and synchromesh and camshaft profiles and spark plug firing sequences. The only EV they have any time for is the pricey Taycan and they would never admit that this Taycan, if not the best EV, is the Best Porsche. And The Taycan is about to be Porsche's best seller - if not already. So Long 911.

I’m very curious...about the 2 or 3 other electric cars he says are more fun to drive. If something has clear from the beginning is that the model 3 is the closed of all the electric cars to a fast BMW which, for decades has been the king of fund and engaging driving. It makes me serious doubt of how much research he really has done and how much is just empty words to sound knowledge. Not good enough for me.
