Yeah, it's right in the manual. Lower it down so it's resting down position, then push with two hands on either side of the emblem. I remember Jay Leno doing it as well as if it was a normal heavy ass steel ICE hood with an engine under it.
Yeah that triggered me just a bit too...my 2015 MS was already imperfect around the frunk latch when I bought it due to the previous owner's lack of attention. And if you asked my girlfriend to name a moment when I was completely unreasonable she would probably mention my reaction when she dropped the frunklid on my Porsche 911 like that.
The 20" wheels are additional cost options. MY comes standard with 19" wheels which cosmetically don't look as cool, but standard wheels provide a smoother ride and better range.
Model Y with 19-inch wheels is still quite bumpy at the factory recommended pressures (42 psi). It's a suspension issue, less of a tire issue. The Performance models are downright punishing with the lower, firmer springs and 21s.
@@michaelwbsin because they are too fast.. they need stiffer suspension or they would have the worst handling and be more prone to flipping... its literally safer for it to be stiff
@@aaronsanchezz Teslas are the opposite of "prone to flipping". Model Y may look like a crossover but has the center of gravity of a ICE sports sedan...model 3 may look like a sports sedan but has the center of gravity of an ICE supercar.
@@aaronsanchezz this stiff suspension actually reduce safety and stability as shown in several tests. It has nothing to do with a sport suspension because the stock one simply cant react fast enough to do any work. Aftermarket suspensions like the KW V3 for example offer a smoother and yet more stable and safer drive. They even reduce the breaking distance because the car does not lean forward as much as with the stock suspension, thus increasing grip. The rear end of the car also becomes much more stable which tends to wobble on the stock suspension during sudden maneuvers, granted it usually catches itself pretty quickly once it gets grip again. Still, with a aftermarket suspension wheels of Teslas are glued to the road and you can take corners much faster, which is why I am swapping the stock one on mine after I take delivery later this month.

That was the first thing I noticed when I first received my Model Y a year ago. I can no longer go back to the voice commands of my second car, an Audi.
If you filmed the video a few months ago it’s already outdated. Check the news Top Gear, there are some changes coming to the Model Y’s that will be delivered to the UK. Bigger 82 kWh battery, new AMD computer chip (faster), double glazed windows front and back, etc. If you release a video a few days before the actual deliveries start with outdated info is not very cleaver from Top Gear and will confuse people.
I absolutly love my Tesla. Been in the automotive industry all my life and driven many many cars but I have never felt as safe as I do when I drive my Tesla. I also didnt know traffic lights could be so much fun!

Funny, I switched from a Volvo V60 to a MYLR. I loved my V60, but the MY completely blows it away. There's no comparison. You're going to love your new car.
Drive model 3 in Bruges, autopilot works well. You must have upsetted it by try to turn it on over 90mph, it is not gonna, and will punish you until your next drive.
Exactly, been driving M3 for few months now in Belgium and I use AP 80% of the time including (inter) city roads (95% of highways, including highway to highway ramps as twisty as they get) It's THE reason why I'm so happy with my car. I can never go back to holding my car between 2 lines.
@@Sam-u8i6f I do love using Autopilot on motorways but here in the UK it still has annoying issues, the main one I find is when I signal to move back into a lane but there's a lorry in the next lane, my Model 3 gets confused and thinks it's pulling into the same lane as the lorry and will suddenly swerve back. I think it's to do with the height of lorries.
I just picked up a Model Y Performance and I have been throughly impressed. It's a much better car than my BMW X3. My concerns about the fit and finish before taking delivery were unwarranted and the red paint is lovely. The accessories do add up, though, if you are interested in personalizing your car.
For both our X and our Y, with all the online chatter about build quality, I was expecting the worst. Both were near flawless, aside from dirty fingerprints on the headliner of the Y... which they cleaned. Oddly, I had to deal with the same thing while picking my new BMW years ago.
To be fair, autopilot works just great here in Norway as well, quite different to California :) Its sort of connected to speed limits which is probably why top gear is having issues on the round track. However if its snow on the road, it wont let me activate it, and I wouldnt trust it on the snow either.
It's obvious in the video that the car was driving itself with no problems. The "blue steering wheel" was active and it was keeping it in the lane... at 72 mph. So no speed limits there. That was just a lame scripted rant...
Not a bad review. My biggest disappointment watching reviews is when the reviewer does not thoroughly know the car, as in this case. I've found that in general the people who don't like Teslas don't fully know them. I was a little put off by the front end appearance of the Models 3 and Y at first, but it's a "form follows function" design done very well. I now find this car very attractive in it's own way and prefer its design over cars like the ID4, Mustang and Ioniq 5. I find it has a very utilitarian appeal for me. I have reserved a Model Y because for me it will be more practical than the smaller, lower Model 3. i've driven the Model Y with the 19" and 20" wheels. The ride is noticeably better with the 19" wheels.

@@AutoAddict84 I adore the fact that people are actually upset about that presser, and that Elon is triggered enough to literally tweet asking for attention.
As far as the controls and touchscreen, almost all commands can also be initiated by voice commands as well as on the touch screen. For the wipers for example, are automatic wipers that sense when it is raining and turn on automatically. But you can also tap the button on the end of the left stalk and it will give you a quick swipe of wipers plus pop the wiper menu up on the screen. Or you can also just tell it to "turn on the wipers" or "increase wiper speed" or "decrease wiper speed". If you want to open the glove box you can tap it on the menu on the screen in the submenu or you can say "open glove box". You can tell it to turn on the seat heaters or turn them off. You can tell it to turn on just the drivers seat heater, etc. It is like this with almost all functions.
The voice commands are useless though, even when they understand you they rely on cell-connection to work, so no signal then no voice controls... The new V11 software buries everything 2 or 3 'taps' deep to force drivers to use the useless voice commands.
@@unscentednapalm8547 I've never had voice commands fail. I can't think of anytime on the road where I didn't have a connection for more than a few minutes in the most remote locations like Death Valley.
why do i need voice commands for everything? Every automaker not just tesla is using voice commands as cost savings measure yet they are useless, efficient and can be dangerous - imo.. Yes great to play or make a phone call with but that's it...besides that still gimmicks and they use it to convey "high tech" and this it is not. Maybe in 15 years voice commands can make changes as or faster than I can but until them my preference is the old fashion way. that is when I can make the change or execute the operation faster manually and when there is a physical button without having to even look at the dash. I will take manual every time. Change and new for the sake of it is neither good or efficient.
If it takes 11 hours maximum to charge, well you're not charging it from completely empty, and once it's at max that'll last most people a week. So you wouldn't even need to plug it in right away when you arrive home. And twice a week would be more than enough for 99% of people. Ive heard people complain about superchargers (cause of the time) but for those with homes it's more convenient. Which is really worse for some, better for the rest. I like the idea of charging at home and not having to head to garages
@@earlpottinger671 wouldn't that be worse for the battery? I've heard it's better to not fully empty them, or fully full them. That way there's less stress to the components that make up the battery. If that's true or not is another thing
The bias here is seething. “If it doesn’t work on our test track, what are the chances it works where you are?” Dude, your test track isn’t a public roadway, nor does it appear to have speed limit signs. In other words, the car doesn’t know how fast it’s legally allowed to go. Test the hypothesis: put a 70mph speed limit sign up along the side of the track and try autopilot again.
Everyone talks about the Plaid and the top-end, very expensive models. Yours is the Dodge Challenger/Ford Mustang/Chevy Camaro version of the Model 3, meaning the performance version of the affordable model and it is the one I would most like to have a go in and would be most likely to buy.
@@larssonk22 fine Tesla SC network is growing and charging speed is very good so even if a SC is full not long till theres a space, can't comment on non Tesla chargers as never had to use them 👍
Nice detailed review. I own a Model Y and I think he outlines my same pros and cons. For my family, it is indeed the efficient use of space in an EV plus charging infrastructure and technology that makes it work so well for us. I also acknowledge the shortcomings of rough ride, poor rear visibility and maybe not so solid build quality relative to other luxury marques (this is personally less of a problem for me).
Note that some of the "build quality" in premium names means adding significant weight, look at the I4, which impacts handling, performance, range, baatery size, and cost. Adding air suspension would make a lot of people happy it appears.
We've had our YLR here in Norway since August, it came on the very first boat. Compared to our Model S it had one big drawback in winter: In order to be more efficient, Tesla normally uses only the rear motor both for acceleration and regen, this caused a lot of fishtailing on drives up into the Telemark mountains, but now over the last few weeks they have added an undocumented Snow Mode: When it detects that it is very slippery, it starts this mode which will then use front and back motors approximately 50/50, even if that causes a few percent efficiency loss.
Model 3 has done this as well for a few weeks now. You can actually hear the front motor working, it causes a faint whine. Sometimes I let the car slip slightly just to turn on the 50/50 mode. 😄
In the model Y you could also use off road mode as this would have given you 50/50 as well plus slip start. Pretty awesome for loose surfaces. Though it is great that it now detects it by itself.
Top Gear - FALSE, Tesla Autopilot works up to 69 mph on Highways, it probably did NOT allow Autopilot because its NOT a RESTIERED Highway. next time TEST on the Autobahn or some OTHER Registered highway.

Not sure where they got these horsepower figures, LR is 384, the Performance is 456. Note the LR can get a $2k priced software unlock for about 420 HP with 0-60 mph time if 4.3 seconds. Since this aired suspension was reworked with Comfort suspension with spring and damper tuning.
That's completely different from Autopilot included with all cars. It's really solid on all highway conditions. He was testing it on a 45" sloped corner meant for 100mph+ testing, that condition doesn't exist on highways. I've had my Model 3 nearly 4 years and 130k km's almost all highway and for years it's been 100% solid no disengagements ever. It's likely a safety feature he's complaining about detecting the high angle of the road in AP to slow it down. Top speed of AP is really generous 150km/h. It auto slows down into corners where it might move out of the lane lines usually not by much.

Ooo.... yeah...sorry but the exterior of MY and M3 is not good looking at all. The interior is so boooring, that nothing comes even close. The real world range of MY is around 250 m. "Tesla's best all rounder yet" Sounds pretty good. Some useful bits you didn't mention: (1) I think you can manage the screen by voice. Very well. (2) Steering assist (not FSD) is very very helpful on all roads. (3) Over the air updates is really a "Killer App" that no one else seems to have figured out yet, under $200,000. Something wrong with the car? Is there a new feature we want to add? It will be put into your car overnight. Wherever in the world you happen to be.
The autopilot is speed limited on your test track because the car has no speed limit data. On the road, it's using GPS data as well as speed sign recognition to know what the limit is. Your track isn't a road, so... It makes sense to not assume a high speed limit.
You don’t need a rear wiper unless the back window is more vertical. I could be wrong, but I don’t recall ever seeing a rear wiper on that kind of back window.

13:09 "A family car should be more comfortable". This is actually answered at 13:40. Without a more expensive high quality adaptive suspension system you can't have both family car comfortable AND twisty road sharp corning handling. One has to give or you split the difference. Most car companies split the difference and have OK handling and OK comfort. Tesla I guess decided to go for handling to compliment its leading performance. With the Model S and X you get both with their adaptive suspension.
"a pretty looking car" Oh please. No one thinks the Hyundai or not-Mustang are pretty. The model Y looks better than either. European makers even pretend the model S is ugly. Your review above is spot on ! Other journalists have slated it. I love the MY and I’m very defensive of it. Your review was beautifully worded and accurate! I admire you !
It's so sad that Top Gear has ended up like this. At least with the OG 3 it was entertaining, this is just a really meh review. So many other youtube reviewers do a much better job.
My question is why are you adjusting the wing mirrors or steering wheel while driving? For the license test if you do any of that in front of the examiner, you fail automatically.
Late last year I test drove the model 3 and a Ford Mach E. I really wanted a non-Tesla, since I have a Model X and thought it would fun to have another brand sitting in the garage next to it. Also, I would have been able to take the Ford home right away, while the Tesla would take about six months. Though after driving the Ford, it goes to show you how used to something you become. When I got in the Ford it just felt like it was from another era. It was built solid, but not as great as the reviews suggested. The screen was laggy and the screen UX looked like it was designed in the late 90s. The rest of the interior was very nice, but conventional. In comparison, my four year old Tesla Model X still felt more modern. The Model 3 was in a different league entirely and, with the white interior, looks like it was designed by Saarinen. When I went to place the order for the 3, I ended up deciding to go with the practicality of the Y. The exterior is not my favorite, but there aren't any fake grilles or vents, and it's a clean purposeful and authentic design. The hatch makes it more useful and the height make it more pleasant driving in NYC traffic. I took delivery two weeks ago and couldn't be happier. The performance on the back roads is outstanding, which is what I appreciated about the Model 3. The double glazed side glass make it much quieter than previous Model 3's I'd been in. Oh, and I found a good trick... if you give the washers stalk a quick jab, the wiper controls automatically pop up on the screen! Makes it much easier if you need to adjust them. I do wish the seat heaters were persistent on the screen, and the section containing the image of the car on the left occupied less space that could be used for the map. Overall though, there is no question why people love these things.
That only affects stopping time while in motion and you lift off/let go of the accelerator. If you are staring from 0 then it doesnt have anything to do with a 0-60 time.
Took it for a test drive and it's pretty flawless apart from the poor rear window visibility. I'd probably use the rear camera. Amazing car but with my tiny parking space and narrow streets I prefer my Model 3. Phillip.
Lot of people who blame the yoke haven't driven it for at least a year. Lot of I've meet actually likes it or is OK with having that yoke. I'm not saying it's perfect but so many people get used to it.
Apparently the yoke is safer in an accident where the airbags deploy. People who drive with their hands in the 10 to 2 position on a round steering wheel end up with 2 broken arms when the steering wheel airbag goes off. So that's a plus for the yoke.

@@20karun I speak in an accent and we are delighted how well it handles our accents. And its a matter of a software update for Tesla to improve the depth of voice commands - and I believe its coming...
That was the first thing I noticed when I first received my Model Y a year ago. I can no longer go back to the voice commands of my second car, an Audi.
I came to the comments to post exactly this. Quick to complain, slow to realize all the solutions already provided.
Not to mention the V11 software which came before Christmas. So this means this video was filmed almost 1 month and a half ago.
Plus 351 mile range for long range and 331 miles for performance
The battery will be more 79kWh'ish...from LG. Not the 82kWh pack from Panasonic that we know from the M3P 2021.

Drive model 3 in Bruges, autopilot works well. You must have upsetted it by try to turn it on over 90mph, it is not gonna, and will punish you until your next drive.
The track is unlikely to have a known speed limit, and if the road leading to it had a low limit, that might restrict what it was allowed to be set at
Autopilot is speed restricted. Last time I checked it was 85 mph.
@@panyanguyen13 no, it is 80mph if you are unlucky to get recent 3/Y models with radar, and it is 90 for all other models

To be fair, autopilot works just great here in Norway as well, quite different to California :)
Its sort of connected to speed limits which is probably why top gear is having issues on the round track.

Lol why would you need it to open your glove box got you??? If you need it open, you're going to be reaching that way anyway to get what you need

Compared to our Model S it had one big drawback in winter: In order to be more efficient, Tesla normally uses only the rear motor both for acceleration and regen, this caused a lot of fishtailing on drives up into the Telemark mountains, but now over the last few weeks they have added an undocumented Snow Mode:
When it detects that it is very slippery, it starts this mode which will then use front and back motors approximately 50/50, even if that causes a few percent efficiency loss.

This report appears to be very much outdated. Lots has changed, please do your homework.
You said charging is 350miles per hour and that is incorrect. 250 or 350kwh
7:17 he didn’t use the hold to take off. He used creep, that would change the zero to 60 time.
Phillip.
Isn't it the same size as Model 3, just taller?
@@Bellissima2k no
@@Bellissima2k it's a bit longer
I wanted to quickly reach out and inform you that we currently have some
fantastic deals on our eBay listing in Tesla Accessories.
Probably made it slower by having left foot on brake, you just need to mash the power pedal. 🙂
true, the regen would've kept the car stationary
Put steeting mode in "Sport Mode" difference is big in response!
What are the chances Autopilot will work on a road near you? 99.999%. You're trying to use it on a test track! Not a public road!
By "Top Gear Test Facility" you mean the widely used Millbrook ?
The 7 seater Model Y is available in the US, so presumably it will come to Europe at some point
Lot of people who blame the yoke haven't driven it for at least a year. Lot of I've meet actually likes it or is OK with having that yoke. I'm not saying it's perfect but so many people get used to it.
make it either a variable ratio rack or make it (steering ratio) faster then yes it will work. But until then a solution waiting for a problem.
@@KOFIV77 l can agree with you
It would look more at place plugged into a ten year olds xbox
Apparently the yoke is safer in an accident where the airbags deploy. People who drive with their hands in the 10 to 2 position on a round steering wheel end up with 2 broken arms when the steering wheel airbag goes off. So that's a plus for the yoke.
@@panyanguyen13 apparently.... I have always driven at 9 n 3 with proper wheel. And the assumption is when one hits the tree their hands are not crossed turning the wheel. ...
You can save driver profile, so you only have to adjust, mirrors, seat, wheel one time. Autopilot is brilliant, and I live in Europe. Before buying ANY Ev try the model 3 or Y they are serious impressive cars, that can't be matched by any of the so called rivals

I'd like a Tesla 3 hatchback. Lower center of gravity with the extra cargo space.
Unfortunately not enough people like hatchbacks in America :( its sad but true
Battery information is already out of date. Already shipped 2022 Model Ys will have a 82 kWh (75-78 kWh net capacity) LG Battery (E5LD). That should improve range by 10 percent, and also the charging curve.
Tesla is the no 1 best selling car year over year in Norway for the last 3 years. It is also comes on top in most satisfying car owners. They also have difficult winter conditions half the year. That right there says it all. Tesla is winning big time
Did you know for every solar panel or every EV you have to scrape an acre of earth away to extract the rare earth elements to create said products? Once those said products are used up you are left with a very hazardous waste that has no use on our planet same as used fuel rods left over from a nuclear power plant. It cost 5 times to recycle a battery of any type than it does to just make a new one. #truestory
@@TheFirstBubbaBong lol… check your facts man. You’re way off. Actually tesla Is like 99% renewable. Not kidding
Tesla's market share in Norway is dropping like a stone now that other players are entering the market. The Tesla Moment is already over.
@@Patrick-bu5vy lol.. you don’t know what your talking about. The model Y have just recently started selling here and just wait and see in Q2 when Germany will start delivering. Many Norwegians are waiting for the German made model Y rather than the Chinese version for several reasons.
With the steering if you put it in sport the feel is a lot better.
