  • We test both M2s at the same stretch of tarmac to find out if my Bilstein B16 are really more comfortable than stock M2 suspension.
Big thanks to Joe for making this comparison possible.

This is an excellent video. And the split screen of the the two suspensions working over the same stretch of road was great. Job. Well. Done!

I can only confirm your impressions. Have decided a year ago for a KW V3 coilover suspension. A long process. It's a lot of money and on the Internet there is a lot of "bla bla" about it.
But it has paid off. I noticed the following changes:
    1. the look of the car is so much better (no more SUV look).
    2. the ride comfort has remained, has even improved.
    3. the car drives so much better. Especially the cornering speeds have been greatly increased as well as the grip in general.
On your next longer ride in the group you will notice how well your M2 can follow the others, without you having to do much for it.
Have fun with your "new" M2.
    Cheers Mark

Thanks Mark. I definitely agree with your points. I’m currently at the ferry heading to Nurburgring so I will test it very soon 😁

In my opinion, the best equation in overall situations of a daily drive is the stock suspension, that is already very good. Stiffer and lower suspension is more dynamique in a good surface, but if you drive in bumpy surfaces, snow, gravel, water, whatever, you can loose control of the car more easily. Is why rally cars use a different setup depending on the surface they are running, and in real life this is not possible...

I have to disagree. Unfortunately the stock suspension is made cheap. It’s way more crashy and makes M2 jumpy a lot more than on a set of good coilovers. In fact it’s on the bumpy roads where the coilovers will give you far more grip than the stock suspension. If you lover it too much to the point there’s not enough travel in the shocks, then the car would start suffering but if you don’t bag it, coilovers are way better.

Great Video!👍I do notice on the higher speeds more body movement with the coilovers compared to stock. Lower speeds minor cracks and bumps are absorbed, feels like a different car. this I noticed with H&R Springs. What I don’t like is when the suspension follows the road, makes you feel like you in a race car. This is why I like the factory suspension. Sometimes.

Yes, the body moves more because it follows the road faster. Although, I find it more comfortable as it dampens the bumps better.

Hi! I found this video very helpful towards my purchase decision for the B16s. I wonder what stiffness adjustment level you set (how many clicks in the front and in the back)? I heard 6F 4R is a good bet for the M2’s

Tyres also play a role in all of this, they can make car feel more accurate and road noise as well.

Great video Marek 👍 I thought the suspension in the comp is different to the OG M2 …? ( I might be wrong)

    • @MDrives
      @MDrives  Год назад

Thank you. There are small differences as comp was a bit less nervous and a bit more compliant on a road when we compared them stock to stock.
