In the point of view of a writer, redeeming a serial genocider and an outright evil being in a naturally convincing manner and have his story wrapped up well is a VERY hard thing to do, in my humble opinion.

Honestly I feel bad for Vegeta. At base he's an epic prideful warrior, but look deeper and he's a broken man, traumatized as a child through Frieza's evil ways and made to forever doubt himself. You could tell here that he was basically clinging to Goku for dear life for this because without a rival, he couldn't prove his strength, and in his mind at the time, without strength, he didn't have pride, and without pride he had nothing. Goku may be the stronger fighter, but Vegeta is WAY deeper.

Well, the number 1 theory Vegeta doesn't title himself "King" is because of his respect towards his deceased father, King Vegeta. Despite the show never going too deep into their relationship and it jumps between showing Vegeta admire him as a kid to him not showing reaction when hearing about his father's murder, it's still obvious he respects his father.
The title was never passed on to him officially by his father ( because the king was murdered), so he doesn't call himself that. I think it actually shows even more the lvl of warrior honor ,pride and respect Vegeta possesses.

I love the evolution of Vegeta, I feel like he's had the most in-depth character arc in the DBZ Kai crew, his voice actor even seemed to evolve with him, his voice first all horse and rasp, look now it's so well defined

Vegeta is my favorite Dragon Ball character, and always had been since I was little.
The Prince really had the Best character devolvement in all of dragon ball.
From Evil Chaotic, To Neutral Chaotic, To Neutral Good, and Now Good. I would never say Lawful, but give the man some credit, his family he helped build changed him forever.

Namek Saga... okay Frieza will be defeated and Dragonball shall end, lets quickly write off Vegeta at the hands of Frieza and now... these people still love him... okay Cell Saga, he is a dead beat dad and is full of pride and why do these people love him and wait how did Bulma who had been so close to Goku and even Yamcha end up with the wait let's get him beat by a girl too, no people are still loving him, break his arm and what more can I do... Vegeta had more talent than Goku but ends up gaining less all the time... because Vegeta was suppose to be a Boss for them to defeat not a recurring character... then we get to Buu Saga and its like okay we are really killing him off this time... no people still love him... okay let's just revive all the good people of earth and lets just pass him off as a good guy now and give up on getting rid of him...
That is how I view it, Vegeta is the real protagonist and has to keep fighting against the plot to survive as a villain who is meant to be defeated... proving that you either die the villain or live long enough to become the anti-hero

It’s because without Goku that form Trunks is in doesn’t possibly exist. It’s not that he doesn’t care about Trunks it’s just Vegeta needs Goku to be the best possible version of himself. The same way Goku needs the serious side of Vegeta to stop messing around when the time is right.

Some people don’t understand the kind of chills this will send down you spine, across your cheeks, in your lungs.
