But, the truth is, they need time to develop their skills, and you can't just pressure them like that. 9/10 times they'll get a low-self esteem if you make them think they're not good enough. It's hard trying to reach these expectations as a child. And they certainly won't focus on work if all they can think about is how much of a disappointment they are. Sure, parents obviously want the best for you, but please, for the love of God, take another approach.
Vegeta never raised trunks, never spent any time with him at all. But- when trunks arrived, he was proud. When trunks died, he was astound. Vegeta is truly an amazing father, to know that even if he didn’t raise or spend any time with him, trunks was still his boy, and his death hit him harder than he could’ve imagined, fighting for someone other than himself, getting injured and risking his own life knowing he could’ve died for a son he never met before in his life.
It's also a matter of responsibility. Future trunks was always my favorite version of him. Vegeta instilling that saiyan pride in him and wanting him to be the best was a one of my favorite scenes in super. He didn’t grow up with vegeta as a father and never really cared about pride and being a warrior. He just wanted it to end, but also needed to understand he can't rely on them to keep his world safe. Vegeta being giving tough love is always great. Because a lot of the time he's right and they need to hear it

The quick sudden punch at the end was a way to show himself how much trunks has grown and is careful- Back in dbz when they where in the timechamber he did the same thing and got angry at trunks for not paying enough attention. So that was the nail where he got really proud a last time towards Future Trunks
Dude, it was literally to test Trunks' strength, as The Son of The Prince of Saiyans should never be weak. Goku and Vegeta are the two strongest characters so trying to punch Trunks while still in Base Form was Vegeta's way of testing his son's strength, and thus, his lineage.

Vegeta is a villain turned hero done right. Slowly over time he grew and became the ideal Sayian. Stubborn, prideful and exceptionally powerful. No matter what anyone says Vegeta is the best example of a character turning a new leaf.

Vegeta’s feeling and treatment towards present kid trunk n future Trunks shows his dual feeing , a saiyan’d pride and warrior’s respect toward his more matured Future time line Son whom he can relate , n his earthly’s feeling of love and soft side towards his present future son whom he is not too harsh with .
The best father, he always keep his word, never going back on his promises, a true prince of saiyan.

Vegeta is a villain turned hero done right. Slowly over time he grew and became the ideal Sayian. Stubborn, prideful and exceptionally powerful. No matter what anyone says Vegeta is the best example of a character turning a new leaf.
