Look up Wing commander, Darkest Dawn. It is a fan made game with the freespace 2 engine, and i have to say, it is actually more fun as the originals. (The characters are lovable, the missions are interesting - and really hard sometimes - the whole game is obviously a labour of love.)

I am a huge Wing Commander fan. I have the entire book series (including the novels based off the movie), all the video games, and the board/card games. I wish they'd do a remastered version of the game, or relaunch the franchise for Xbox or PS.
Sniff... Really miss wing commander. One of the best video games series ever. Even the crappy last one was still awesome. Every game taunt # 3 here kitty kitty... Great games
Good episode Templin Institute. I’ll need to see the others before I make a final decision, but this one seems like it’ll open up a lot of content that the Institute wouldn’t normally be able to cover.
Templin generally stretches canon so that they can make videos on what's the most interesting rather than the most official. At least, that's how I see it.
@@Bitterman5868 With respect, CIC doesn't get to 'decide' what's canon, technically EA does as they own the rights. The movie and games can't be in the same canon, they're wildly different from each other.
I don't know where you got much of your information but 1) you mixed the movie into the game universe, two very different canons, and 2) You didn't even mention the battle of McAuliffe/McAuliffe Ambush in 2634 where the Confederation lost most of it's modern carriers and big gun battleships. That battle alone is worthy of it's own video.
Actually, she mentioned the attack on Alexandria Station, which was the primary target in the McAuliffe Ambush according to "Action Stations". Also, Star*Soldier already attempted to retcon both the Movie and the Academy Cartoon Series into the game universe, of which I have mixed feeling about myself to be honest.
Shit, I know I said, audio logs is the least interesting for me, but now, I am envisioning audio logs covering the Man-Kzin wars by Larry Niven or the Imperial Radch by Anne Leckie or the Culture from Iain M. Bank's series. None of these fictional universes have much, if any, visual representation and I wish we could explore them more via these audio logs.
This was good, very good. You forget how deep Wing Commander is. Done correctly(as in, not like the movie, which really disappointed me), a movie reboot could go far.
Hey Templin Institute, why do you consider there is insufficient visual for Wing Commander? There are the DOS and Windows games, still shots and that feature film that was in theaters decade or so ago. Great audio log though.
Join the Space Force they said, live a life of adventure and see the galaxy. So what am I doing here hitting the same four nav-points day in and day out year after year for Insystem Security! Fucking recruiter. 😠
One thing puzzles me about this video. You say there's insufficient visual data? Between the canon Wing Commander games, the movie, and The Darkest Dawn mod, it does seem you'd have enough to work with. Did this prove unfeasible?
If you do audio log, I have a recommendation for you. Can you do an episode(s) on some of the factions from the Leviathan series, by Scott Westerfield? For example, the Clankers, Darwinists, etc.

I do have the feeling that the Kilrathi are a cheap copy of the noble Kzinti of Larry Niven's Ringworld Universe (which I suggested to make some videos about before) :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kzin
With a lack of images, I would assume that I would listen to the audio logs like a podcast. The problem is that there is very little illustrative description and so I have a hard time visualizing what is being talked about. For example here, I understand that the Terran Confederation are humans and the Nethelum (?) are an insectoid race, but the Kilrathi and Firekkan are total blank slate and invoke very little imagery, sometimes making it hard to follow if I am not listening intensely. Even if I were, it still ends up lacking flavor and, to an extent, making it hard to really enjoy. I would never want the political elements and events to take a backseat, but if this is the channel I turn to for learning about these things, I would need a little more to get a feeling for the subject being discussed. Not trying to be overly critical. I enjoy this channel a great deal. This format would just have to have some tweaking for me to think it worth the effort.

You should do the western alliance from starlancer
You should narrate audiobooks, great voice
Wing Commander was probably one of my favorite game franchises in the 90s.
Really is a damn shame that Wing Commander is no more. I think a rewamp of the old games would do well today. (yes I am aware of Star Citizen)
Kilrathi canonically do exist in SC universe, but we most likely never actually encounter them due to license reasons.
@@TheRezro They are mentioned? surprising, and welcome I suppose :)

That is awesome. I played all Wing Commander Games. The Tigers Claw will always be a part of my childhood!
The Kilrathi learned a very good lesson the day they kill a human. We are really good at war.

Because War, war never changes....
and years later we learned that there's something that puts fear even on the most rabid kilrathi, which are the bugs.
We're not good at war, we're good at figuring how other things tick and breaking it... And we're suicidal in that aspect once they attacked us...
Wing commander, is that the Mark Hamill game?
Yep
Only from WC3 and beyond

No, it's that Freddie Prinze Jr. Film.
It is also that, the Pilgram storyline was made canon by that movie.
Loved the WEC (World Economic Consortium) reference from the Crusader: No Remorse/No Regret games. Would love a video on that and the Silencer Corps.
