  • Today we install new shocks on the jeeps. After the last trip and some long off-road travels we found that the shock bodies were heating up. Heat build up is the enemy of shock performance so we decided to do some upgrades. After doing some research the Falcon SP2 shocks seemed to fit the bill form my set up and then we transferred the AEV Bilstein shocks from my jeep to Jacobs to match the springs from the dual sport lift he just swapped in to replace the quadratec springs that were in before.

    in the video you did not seem completely happy with the shocks. what setting did you install them on soft or sport? ive read several post where people say get the 2dr model shocks for the 4 dr jeeps cause they are softer. if you could do it over would you keep what you have or would you order the same shocks except for a 2dr model which would be a little softer or get a completely different shock? im mainly curious about daily driving use.

      So I have them on the sport setting as i prefer the stiffer ride that give move dampening on the trail and have found over time i actually prefer it on the street as well, to do it over, bang for your buck i would buy them again same model same setup as it works great for what i do with the jeep, if money was not an option i would buy the new 3.3 fast adjust piggy back shocks because it really gives you the most adjustability for DD, loaded un loaded, gravel roads, wash boards, trails, light rock crawling/ real off camber terrain. But after several thousand miles offroad on the falcon 2.1s i am really happy with them

    Wow I'm glad your bolts didn't brake both my bolts snap and I didn't reach the max torque I did mine by hand too no impact

      Wow thats crazy! Maybe you had a bad batch, hopefully they broke where it was easy to get them out!

    I have seen lots of videos about installing new suspension systems, but few on actual reviews of the before and after. I’m looking to get the AEV DualSport for my JLUR, and would love to hear your thoughts on: before AEV to AEV, and AEV to Fox.

    • @FischerJeepAdventures
      @FischerJeepAdventures  Год назад +2

      Sam, thanks for the question, the AEV suspension is like night and day difference the ride gets softer in all the right areas but holds the jeep nice and firm when you need it. The biggest improvement in my opinion is the way the dual rate coils have the ability to absorb the bumps on the trail yet stay stable on the road when cornering and braking. I highly recommend the lift, my son had gotten a quadralift system for his jeep and we switched it to the aev and he said it made a huge difference. As for the falcon shocks, I love them, they take all the benefits of the aev lift and enhance it with the added dampening performance of the shocks. Where you feel that the most is when you hit pot holes or large bumps in the trail, the rattle your teeth impacts are much smoother and most importantly they seem to keep the wheels on the ground better in variable terrain which of course helps with traction. Another addition i highly recommend and if I were doing the suspension set up again, I would pick the same systems. I hope this helps you out, Thanks again for watching and checking out the channel

      @@FischerJeepAdventures Thank you for that insight! What advantage is there in the Falcon shocks you choose over the AEV/Bilstein XP8100 Reservoir Shocks?

    • @FischerJeepAdventures
      @FischerJeepAdventures  Год назад +3

      Sam, personally, i think the reservoir shocks are a bit over kill, the remote reservoir is to increase fluid volume to maximize fluid cooling and minimize shock fade, the reservoir shocks are cool looking but they add failure points in the connection from the main shock body to the reservoir, to a system that is otherwise closed, and you have to figure out how to mount the reservoir. Now with that said they serve their purpose especially on long duration high speed travel on bumpy roads. But for the cost of reservoir shocks unless your jeep is going to live primarily or washboard/dirt or gravel roads for hundreds of miles i think that same money can be reinvested in other modifications. The falcon shocks i bought are larger in fluid capacity and have a larger piston and the valving is perfect for my application, I just finished a two week trip out to the mountains of colorado over landing, some days we traveled over 50 miles offroad and I never experienced any shock fade even with the jeep fully loaded. Either way you are going to get a great shock package, it just depends on how much you want to spend. If i was willing to spend the 1500.00 on reservoir shocks I would buy the fixed body falcon shocks because the reservoir is fixed to the shock body and they are adjustable in their valving for different terrain which allows you to dial in the system for the terrain conditions. Just my perspective!

    Is the Jack stand under the frame? Did you Jack it up at the frame, install jack stand, jack up front axle, remove tire?

    • @FischerJeepAdventures
      @FischerJeepAdventures  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes the jack stand is under the frame, my process is jack up the vehicle from the axle place the jackstand under the frame, remove the tire, the when u lower the jack the frame hits the jackstand for support and safety and then that allows the axle to droop allowing installation of the shocks to be much easier. Thats just the way i prefer to do it. Thanks for the question and for checking out the channel

      Matt, we will be taking both jeeps on the next trip so we will get a good comparison of how i see the differences are but i am gonna grab my heat gun and we can see real time how the shocks fair on the same trail temp wise, it should be pretty cool to see what happens

    • @FischerJeepAdventures
      @FischerJeepAdventures  Год назад +1

      Yes they ran about 30 degrees cooler and the ride is much better in my opinion, we just got back from two weeks in the colorado mountains and the shocks were definitely worth the investment, I would buy them again

    • @FischerJeepAdventures

      I am using the 3.5 inch overland springs from AEV, they are perfect for my setup, they take the weight but have an amazing ride on and off road

      @lmsgodztorres9132 3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for the quick response, I just ordered the same falcon shocks as you but I’m noticing on the shocks it says 2”-3” and I have the teraflex 3.5” springs but I also see your shocks say the same thing. I should be fine right?

    • @FischerJeepAdventures
      @FischerJeepAdventures  3 месяца назад

      @lmsgodztorres9132 yes you should be fine the aev springs are stiffer than the teraflex ones and I have had no issues after 5000 offroad miles in some pretty dynamic terrain
