- ‘Anywhere Away’ was written for Jake Gavin’s directorial debut, Hector. Peter Mullan stars in the title role as homeless Hector McAdam, making his annual journey from Glasgow to spend Christmas at a London shelter, his back story unfolding as his journey progresses. Given the bleak backdrop of homelessness in the UK, the film actually tells a rather uplifting story, highlighting the random acts of kindness from strangers that can bring hope at difficult times.
The song also connects with that feeling most of us have faced at one time or another: the feeling that we are being overwhelmed by circumstances out of our control, and the only place we want to be is any place but the one we’re in.

Sometimes a film arrives in your life and is delicate, well scripted, well acted, well written, well directed, well planned out, well shot, well placed in time, well and truly touching and most important of all...MEMORABLE. That kind of film positively SCREAMS out "SEQUEL please". Mainly because of the affect it has on folk but also because it leaves an indelible mark on it's audience, regarding the subject matter, which it achieved in a heart-beat with me.
HECTOR does just that from the get-go and every character in the story has left a mighty impression on me. From Hector himself, to the lady in the cafe who pre-judged Hector, to the brother-in-law who castigated the man and yet mightily the point was made along Hector's path that many, many other human beings along his path showed one thing which matters above all else in a story like this tiny little film which is massively deserving in credit from many, many angles....PURE HUMANITY....and i haven't even started on Emily Barker's beautiful soundtrack but i will...SPELL-BINDING and totally complimentary to the script. So many film companies just drop music into a film with the attitude of "the songs must not detract from the story or the film"....DO ME A FAVOUR...this was a team effort which reminds me in every way of the subtle touch of a film in the past which HECTOR has produced here, minimum and managed to reach out to, dramatically speaking and in every single department...THE FULL MONTY(an Oscar-filled beauty)...so will Hector go on to be a classic? For the sake of humanity itself...I SURE HOPE SO....10/10!!!".........FIND TIME IN YOUR LIFE TO LOSE YOURSELF IN THIS GENTLE CLASSIC.

In case you need a lyric for a HECTOR 2 Emily....................truly touched by the film and your lovely soundtrack....so much so that in the scene when Hector tells the girl running the shelter about his wife and daughter, it took me to tears and these words flowed out of me. Be careful with the BRIDGE. If you see anything in this lyric...go for it.

For me, the music is as much a part of the movie as the script itself. Sometimes the song lyrics say things that there isn't time to put into the script and other times it can give me a different take on the meaning of a scene or the overall movie it self.
